:hitit:
Hey guys in your opinions who was the more tragic loss for boxing?
Salvador Sanchez was a proven champion with 40+ fights at 23 years old. I would've loved to see more from Sanchez (rematch with Gomez lol) Sanchez went down as one of the Mexican greats!!
Edwin Valero killed himslef in 2010 with a perfect record of 27w/27ko. I was watching videos of this guy sparring and i've never really seen people hurt someone else like that while sparring!! He was truly amazing!
I know a lot of people will probably say Sanchez (I would think so too), but think of the actual potential Valero could've had also!!
Let's get honest non-biased opinions here guys!!
Im not going to play around with "certified" and "biggest win".
You want to say certified and Ill say biggest win.
Miguel Cotto was a good fighter, champ and all that, his name skyrocketed when he beat Mosley.
You want to say it certified him?...ok
I don't think you're understanding what I'm saying.
You saying Mosley and Cotto skyrocketed Cotto and Margarito name. What I'm saying that wasn't the case for Sanchez with Gomez. Danny Lopez was that name for Sanchez, Lopez was just as popular(more so than Mosley) and in the HOF so just as good as both. His name was pretty big and that was the fight that made Sanchez a house hold name.
What the Gomez fight did was certified Sanchez greatness it was his best win. Unlike Mosley and Cotto those wins didn't certified Cotto nor Margarito greatness. They could not have retired and be considered HOF'er after those fights. Sanchez as you can see can be labeled as an ATG after that fight. It certified his greatness but he was already a big name fighter with his wins over "Little red" Castillo and Laporte. What the Gomez win did is not make his name bigger but just proved he was a great great fighter.
To get what there careers would have been like....
Well...Ok
I think that Sanchez was on arguably on his way down while Valero was on his way up.
Face it Valero was Koing guys left and right while Sanchez was almost taken out by a 13-0 Azumah Nelson...
After His Big Win. He won a Split decision, and UD.
What an idiot!!!
Sanchez was 23 when he died, Valero was 28.
Sanchez was promissing/established, Valero was an overrated hype job.
Sanchez died in an accident, Valero murdered his wife and committed suicide.
I find it disrespectful comparing the two.
Good post, really nothing more to be said.
Says alot about Edwin Valero when the guy was 28 years old,had been a professional for almost eight years prior to his death, and yet is still regarded as some prospect.
Valero was destined to be a good boxer and nothing else.He showed nothing that would lead me to believe that he was going to be elite, let alone some ATG like some people seem to regard him as having potential to be.

That's exactly how I see it.

This.....^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I really liked Valero I didn't see him as hype he became one of my favorites, I thought he was just begining to show his true self and I had tremendous hope for him. When ever I see his fight vs Demarco I'm bummed out that it ended the way it did.
However Sanchez at his very young age he had proven himself to be the real deal and had faced real opposition and terrific champions. The sky was his limit, who knows what else he would have accomplished had he lived more. I say that Sanchez had a bighter future than Valero.
I'm not Mexican................
never said u were, i said maybe since u were so offended and didn't get the actual purpose of the thread!
but an opinion is an opinion though man gotta respect it, thanks for the post though...
It's nothing like that man, you might find it disrespectfull cuz maybe you a die hard Mex, but it was nothing like that!
I said clearly that ya'll should think about ultimate career in the lon run in boxing!!
And yes I agree that Valero ended being a POS in the long run for being a murderer.
I'm not Mexican................
Maybe greatest of all time is a bit much, but certainly he could have been legendary. Watching his fights there's just a factor that you can't put into words as far as his talent.
Valero I never cared for though. Too open, too raw. Just a limited guy. It doesn't mean he couldn't have had a successful career, I just wouldn't ever think that he could have been classified in the same breath as better guys, but the tragedy really is that we'll never know, right?
Yea you're right, that's why I opened this up for discussion is because we'll never know what the extent of their careers could have been like, we all know that Sanchez was great, but what could they have accomplished if none of this would've happened u know?!

Sanchez could have been greater than any other boxer to have ever stepped in the ring. Valero was going to be a smaller Ricardo Mayorga at best.
I think you're wrong on both statements, but hey to each his own.
Thanks for the post & opinion though man.

I think Beating Judah also gave him a lot of name, people thought he was gonna loose cuz of Judahs speed and such...
And, what did I say that was different?
Didn't I say beating Gomez is like beating Pac or Floyd? Hence me saying, biggest win of his career.
My dispute that you tried to compare it to Marg beating Cotto. Shot up his name and that is not true his name was already big considering he Lopez(who at the time was as big/popular as Cottto is/was) that skyrocket Sanchez name.
The Gomez win(again is like beating Floyd/Pac, hence biggest win) just certified his greatness.
