Who are your picks for the best combo punchers currently?
As of now and after watching his last fight like 16 times, im gonna have to go with Juan Manuel Marquez. Its just beautiful watching how he puts them together
What about you guys??
Would have been Valero
Idk... from what I saw of him is he was swinging for the fences and if he happened to strong together a few punches then fine but Idk if I would call him a combo puncher. I think a good counter punched would've put him in his place. He was real crude
Athleticism is the key to execute long combination, without it your open for counters. Also the things to consider is your opponent
1. does your opponent knows how to counter punch?
2. is he slow (could be natural or have run out of gas)
3. is he soft or can you hurt him (could be natural or you have soften him up)
Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar was a good one in his prime, not that all his shots, in combination, connected, but the combination of shots resulted in a damaging shots getting in there effectively.
Lol like that uppercut/hook that ALWAYS barely missed? That always got the oohs going.. he threw that missed punch at least once a round lol
in your opinion :fu2: :bryce:
everthying said in this thread is opinion.........even the best floyd was never a better combo puncher than a cotto............never!........
myth....kotya tsyu, johnnoy tapia, acelino frieetas, hoya , mosely, etc, even a corrlaes was a btter combo puncher at floyd's time at 130/135....floyd was a decent combo(3 punch combo at best) puncher at those weight, but he was far from the best at it at any time!........

Floyd at 130, 135, and 140, was the most dazzling combination puncher of this era. I assume if he let his hands go like he use to that he'd still be the same but he seems to have let go of 4 to 6 punch combos at 147.
James Toney's combination punching is/was also some of the best i've seen. Quick, accurate, and he threw all punches possible from all angles.
JMM also has crazy craft. Left uppercuts followed by a left hooks... crazy sh*t comes through that guys gloves.
Believe it or not... Joshua Clottey. Watch him against Margarito, Coralles, Flores, and even parts of his fight against Cotto... when Clottey lets his hands go his combination's are top shelf.
Young Roy Jones. No breakdown necessary.
I might add more if I think of them.

Audley's nothing-jab-nothing-nothing combo against Haye was a joy to behold.
lol.. Yeah that was a nice combo , but, i prefer B-Hops straight right, head butt, grapple and fake low blow combo.. J/k Hopkins fans.:sad6: I know he looked good against Pascal.

right now Marquez and pac are the best combo punchers but floyd at 130lb was very good combo puncher. totally different than the floyd that bores most boxing fans today
yes but the thread title says whos' the best at it...floyd was never the best at that even at 130 or 135.....he never had that 5 /7 punhc combos like a pac or a jmm now.....where was the combos vs a jesus chavez or a genaro hernandez or a carlos hernandez , castlillo,etc......the point is he did'nt do it everytime even at that weight!.....
floyd is not a combo puncher...tho he did vs some guys like corrales and gatti, its far from the best...

Well he is able to do thatbecause of his speed, I see him throw flurries and on to the next one. Jmm you see him working it out, like it's premeditated. Everything he's doing is going toward a bigger purpose. Don't really see that with Manny. Don't get me wrong mannys got crazy combos but id say that's more a result of his physical advantages than actual technique
Yeah I see what you mean, and that's kinda what I was referring to earlier.
It's about personal preference, and I can see where people are coming from when they say Marquez is a better combination puncher.
Marquez has it in his mind what he is gonna throw and picks you apart, whereas Manny just does everything on the fly, adjusting according to the openings his opponent gives him.
