he doesn't even try to avoid or block punches...at all
Lamotta usually used his shoulders and upper body pretty well, but in those last 3 rounds against Robinson, he was beaten and exhausted and just getting bombed on.
His ability to take those punches was insane.

I was going to post that scene. F*cking brilliant. Martin Scorsese (and cinematographer Michael Chapman) is a genius.

The three toughest fighters I've ever been up against were 'Sugar Ray Robinson', Sugar Ray Robinson, and Sugar Ray Robinson. I fought Sugar so many times, I'm surprised I'm not diabetic! But I did have him off the canvas once...when he stepped over my body to leave the ring.
Jake Mamotta
and its sad they call this guy an atg for beating robinson 1 out of 5 times and breaking some other guys shoulder in the 1st round to win a fight....
What's really sad is that you're still allowed to post here.
The 6th fight between LaMotta and Robinson is no doubt one of the greatest displays in the ability of taking a punch. Robinson claimed to have known that LaMotta was having a hard time making weight by this time, and danced away for the major part of the early rounds while taking it to a tired LaMotta late in the fight.
