First off I want to say I'm a big fan of both fighters and when this fight is over I'll be both happy and sad
Right now I give Cotto a slight edge but Mayorga winning a UD or stopping Cotto honestly would not surprise me..
Honestly the mental edge in this fight I think goes to Mayorga...He's just one of those fighters that doesnt give a **** about the man across from him. Aside from that Mayorga is extremely awkward, difficult for even an intelligent boxer like Cotto to adjust to and exploit.
Would anyone here be surprised with a Mayorga win?
Right now I'm going with Cotto UD.......this may change
Your thoughts and predictions please!
a like both but cotto a is in ma top three fav fighters mayorga has a punchers chance early but to be honest cottos never been sparked clean out so..... cotto eound 9 for me!!!
I expect Cotto to dominate Mayorga a la Alfonso Gomez. I give Mayo like 4 rounds.
No way... Ricardo is like a super middle weight... he will bomb cotto to the floor. :damnit1:
And, I dont really care what you think...
Nobody does as a matter of fact.
Was he a top 10 ranked opponent?
Yes he was... Thanks for stopping by.
Yes he was ranked... but hes a paper champ... just like your baby Roy Jones Junior... he never did fight Benn or Eubank..
He was a scared coward.

I see it exactly how you see it. Especially with the mentality. I dont see the hate with people at Mayorga being the opponent.
You know we as fans are always talking about boxers not caring about the fans, or not wanting to give a good show. Mayorga gives us all that and comes into the ring prepared to give us a good show. The man in recent yrs has ONLY lost to Trinidad, Hoya, Mosley and outboxed by Cory Spinks.
He is a shot of excitement and that coupled with a battle tested warrior in Cotto makes for good fight.
I like it and believe the whole psych of the fight gives it a rare twist, in the sense that many including myself believe Cotto's psych (in the ring) can be messed with. Outside the ring.....well cant wait to see.
I dont care if that paper champ was ranked or not.. he couldnt break out of a paper bag.
Great Cotto stopped him with a laboured body shot.. You are supposed to spark out your opponent when you "KO" them... :boxing:

Was he ranked in the top 10 of the JR MW division?
Yes or No?
And Cotto did finish him with a body shot.

Mayorga has never been disciplined unless you want to count nicotine addiction as such. No reason to think he'll suddenly train properly at this stage of his career. A leopard can't change his spots brother.
I see Mayorga truly pissing off Cotto pre fight, and the one thing I've learned from watching Cotto all these years is that a pissed off Cotto fights with bad intentions (i.e, elbows, kidney punches, body slams, etc). I think Mayorga runs into Cottos jab frequently, even Cotto haters have to admit that his jab is lightning fast and he times it like a counter. I see a flash KO or 2 early in the fight but I don't think it'll be concussive Ko's allowing Mayorga to continue to pressure Cotto.
If Cotto works the body like he has 99% of the time he will KO Mayorga inside of 10 rounds with a liver, kidney, or solarplex punch. If Cotto refuses to go to the body like he did vs Margarito then he'll win a UD but will be on the receiving end of a 6 to a dozen or so big punches. Basically win big on the cards but look worse for the wear (again).
Either way Cotto wins. Mayorga is a fun fighter to follow and watch but he is a notch below the world class fighters.
Also, IMHO Margarito eats Mayorga's punches better than Mayorga's ability to absorb Margarito's work rate. Plus Margarito keeps his power deeper not the fight, Mayorga's punches lose alot of pop after round 4 or 5.
LMAO that Jewish fighter? The tall lanky one? His knee was hurt and Cotto still couldn't finish him.
Was he ranked in the top 10 of the JR MW division?
Yes or No?
And Cotto did finish him with a body shot.
I expect Cotto jab to land everytime he throws it. His timing will find Mayorga everytime he needs to.
He will definitely be going to the body early to break down the aging 37 year old fighter who loves to come out early with lots of energy, but then it bites him in the ass by round 5, where he tries to act like he's not tired, but he is.
After Mayorgas mobillity slows down, Cotto finds it much easier to come in and start using his combination punching by round 3 and on..
I don't know how it will end... I know Mayorga will fight and go out on his shield and it should be fairly competitive for the first 4 rounds.
Mayorga still has good pop, and can catch Cotto coming in, or if he forces Cotto to use his ear muff defense which leaves a lot to be desired... I'd like to see him use his over hand right and follow it up with his left hook... I hope he does it because it will make for a fun watch... It just comes down to how long can Mayorga do it for.
At the end of the day, I don't see Mayorga having the energy to sustain a hard fought 12 rounds with a Miguel Cotto who is about 8 years his junior.
Cotto by UD/TKO.Thanks. I knew you had it in ya!
I honestly don't see Cotto timing Mayorga that easy..
I pretty much see it the way you do however, I don't have as much faith in Cottos ability to deal with the awkward style and power Mayorga will bring to the table..
Mayorga appears to be taking this extremely seriously...Even he knows this will be his last run..
With that being said I think Mayorga will be in better shape and won't fade quite as fast as some people think. And like it or not Mayorga can punch like a mule.....
I know I'm straying off topic here but who would you pick in Mayorga-Margarito?
I would pick Mayorga to stop Margo
Anyway right now I'm 60(cotto)-40(Mayorga)
This is gonna be like Tito-Mayorga. Mayorga is gonna win the mind games, and in the ring we'll see another Hagler-Hearns. This is an AWESOME fight for fight fans. Cotto will win though. He'll break him down, knock him down with body shots. Left hook to the body and that's a wrap.
I got Cotto, but I love Mayorga. One of the most entertaining fighters in the sport, I'd love to see him win and fight Pacquiao just for the entertainment value that it will present.
Mayorga-Pacquiao > Pacquiao-Mosley

cotto shouldn't be struggling in this fight. if he does, he better retire.
Wow, raging sensitivity?
No just looking for a marginally adept explanation as to how Cotto just walks all over Mayorga, who I feel even at this stage is MENTALLY stronger than Cotto...
Sure Shane Mosley put Mayorgas lights out in the last second of their fight but if he hadn't Mayorga would've been a split decision victor....
Anyhow I expect this to be an extremely competitive fight. From your posts you expect a one-sided Cotto beatdown...A bit mystifying.

Cotto by UD/TKO.
I give Mayorga a 20% chance of victory... you?
20% at most
More like 10%
I Dont think Cotto is shot but the fact that i dont think Cotto looks great at 154 is where Mayorga can win this fight
I fully expect a post full of raging sensitivity...Wow, raging sensitivity?
