Lampley is a really good boxing announcer. He catches people's ears, even non boxing fans. I mean I often have uncles and aunts here that don't even speak English and when i'm watching boxing on HBO, people stop to hear what the hell is going on because Lampley got their attention by shouting with all this excitement. Kellermen and Jones are also good commentators.
Larry Merchant is nothing but a flamer, loudmouth who's best days are long gone. He is the example of what would happen if you give one of these trolling 2010-join-date Pactards a mic.
Overall I do tend to like Lampley as a commentator. He can be really off with his dramatic ramblings, always citing Compubox, getting excited over missed punches, being the HBO shill, and being biased....but a lot of times, he's great. Terrific voice for commentary. And other times, he's just hilarious.
There has been many many occasions that i struggled to listen to but the worst two for me has to be the 'spelling out the BARRERA' thing in the Naz fight and as recent as the 'BANG BANG' screams whilst Pacqiauo is fighting. It's absolutly insane, the guy literally shouts these things.
Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang
Would have been funnier if he switched it up like "Badabing!, kaboom!, Wap!, Crash!, Splat!, Wham!, Wapow!, ZAP!"
"Boom shaka laka!"

1. Barrera
2. Cotto
3. De La Hoya
I think with some other guys he just gets excited to try to make it extra dramatic, or is being a good HBO company man.
I don't think I've ever heard a stronger, more undisguised example of rampant, slavering at the mouth, fwapping in my pants cocklust than when Lampley commented on Cotto Margarito. Shit was disturbing, yo.
Very true. Lampley was in his own fantasy world, ignoring what was really happening in the fight he was supposed to be announcing.
Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang
"No disrespect to you Roy, but Marco Antonio Barrera is the smartest boxer I've ever met"
Lampley also got so excited that his mancrush was about to beat Hamed that he went with that over-the-top "Allah knows how to spell Barrera" quote, and actually spelled out Barrera's name.
Anyone remember how angry he was that the KD against Marquez wasn't called? It's true that it was a legit KD before the foul, but it took him a whole round and about 5 replays to finally admit that Barrera did hit Marquez when he was down.
Hahaha, gotta say the first thing that went through my my mind when I seen the thread title was Barrera - Hamed. Spelling out Barrera's name was almost as cringeworthy as his Bang Bang rant.

I like Jim Lampley's emotional, over-the-top commentary. It goes well with Kellermans know-it-all ramblings and Larry Merchant's clowning.
If anyone's a nuthugger it's Manny Steward. Saying Paul Williams was fighting the "perfect fight" until getting KO'd by Martinez was a ****ing disgrace. Martinez beat the **** out of Williams in the first round.
I read it here all the time from Floyd and Manny fans. These guys on here make lampley look like The Rock compared to how gay they come across slobbering on the balls of their heros.
I don't read the posts on here out loud though, so my statement still stands.

Maravilla Martinez(though not as heavy as Kellerman on this one)
bang bang manny pacman
y'all musta forgot about Roy jones (even in the booth)
Marquez the piss drinking warriorking
Oscar (as somebody pointed out, hilariously) daylahooyiah
the puertorican slugger/ superstar miguel cotto
Michael katsidis
A great list indeed. We have so much more character in our sport than any other.
:arabia::dunce:
You left off Khan.
It has to be Oscar because he loves Fernando Vargas and the way he went crazy for Oscar's knockout of Vargas was beyond ridiculous.
(As for the Vargas love watch the end of Vargas - Mosely II, Lampley got emotional while talkign about how much he loves Vargas)
Let's just face it, Lampley is a blood great gaylord.
