El Matador is near retirement at 37, only fought once in 2 1/2 years and nowhere in the rankings.
While this is going to be a good barn burner of a fight, and the pre-fight hype and trash talk that comes always w/ Mayorga, if you talk about who deserves the shot more, I'd rather see Vanes or Angulo up there w/ Miguel.
none taken pare, actually this is for some of the retards here who might agree w/ this but hate on, you guessed it, the pac-mosley fight :D
Naah fvkk those posters. Now everyone know Manny vs Shane isn't the greatest fight but it's not as bad as most are making it out to be.
The greatest run I have ever seen was Marco Antonio Barrera's run through the FW division in the early 2000's.
During that time he also took on a guy, kevin kelley, who most considered shot. Matter fact that was the theme of the event, Kelley's last shot at being great.
Really man all the ATG's have taken on guys who were considered done as fighters. I challenge any poster on here to post some of the greatest runs in the sport and I garauntee you ther will be a sh1t fight here or there.
My sarcasm meter is broken, your not being sarcastic right? Still, I'd be down for that, although Cotto clearly has more left in him than Tony.
Well Margarito is not a top fighter.
But, I really do want to see that fight.
Who doesn't really? Especially with all the controversy now from the 1st fight.
I don't know who has more but I think Cotto will always have trouble with Margarito. It will be interesting.
It's a great fight to tune him up for the Margo fight.
I have no problem with it...it's no question Cotto is trying to build up his confidence....
But....
I don't agree with it being a PPV....
It is a tune up and a good tune up.
The PPV doesn't really bother me either. They couldn't get an HBO date and they want Cotto to fight so be it. They could charge less though I agree.
However, the title should not be on the line. There was a time where champs had non-title fights. This should be a non-title fight. Mayorga is not even rated in the top 15 in the WBA 154 rankings so for them to sanction such a fight is ridiculous.
Yep the Margarito rematch. And, I actually really want to see that one. Can't wait for it.

Well they tried to get Vanes but HBO turned down 1.5mil. So since now it is an independent PPV. Then competition suffers and the money will not be there for Vanes.
Angulo is not relevant to the sport right now sadly he has some legal issues that he has to deal with first.
If we going by who really deserves a shot then is Austin Trout since he is the WBA #1 contender. Is an udefeated fighter. For sure has done just as much as Vanes and deserves it more than Mayorga.
yeah, i forgot angulo has legal troubles atm.
No disrespect to you TS but don't fall into this new B.S. that is spewed on NSB.
No one fights elite and top tier fighters each and every time. Boxing has never worked like that.
Look at the top 10 pound 4 pound
Marquez is fighting a shot Morales
Lopez is fighting sum untested scrub
Bute is fighting a nobody in McGee
Hopkins recently fought a journeyman in orenaleas and a shot Roy before his fight with Pascal.
Wlad faced Peter, a guy who has been done as an elite HW for a while
Manny is facing Mosley who is passed it
Martinez is more than likely gonna face a bum in Andy Lee.
Bottom line is this: Everyone fights inferior comp from time to time. It's cool as long as they step it up, something Cotto will no doubt do when he rematches Margarito in the summer and possible Martinez in the fall.

I don't mind at all because Cotto will then face a top guy, it's typical of him.

A fighter who lost only to, Mosley, Hoya, Trinidad, and outboxed by Cory Spinks I would say is pretty good. He does have other losses but they were like in his first 10 fights or so.
I dont know about anyone else and their obsessions with hating a fighter for whatever reason or liking them to the point where they call them "god".
But I like Mayorga and his antics and his ability to fight with alot of heart and entertainment.
Bottom line is maybe he dont deserve a shot but he deserves a payday and some respect as a fighter who gives his all, entertains the fans and wont let any fighter roll over him.
Thanks to Mayorga for keeping the fight game entertaining and giving his all. I will watch.
