I don't think Old school greats are that much better than Mayweather or Pacman. They are very over rated. They may have 500+ wins for all i care. different era. different business rules. but if you try to analyze the per fight, they are wide open. Robinson throws looping wide hook. I think Mayweather can win this fight. If pacman fought Graziano, you will say its tailor made for him. Coming forward with his face first.
Science also helps. proper nutrition, peak conditions, etc.
The difference between Mayweather/ Mosley/ Pacquiao and SRR is that Robinson looks like he's literally trying to kill his opponents in the ring. He doesn't hesitate, complain to the ref, or make excuses, he lets his fists do all the talking. Plus the fact he fought 200 professional fights and would've fought more if age didn't catch up with him. No one today survives against a prime SRR.
Face it today's boxing spoil's boxers in general. Every boxer in the past fought for very small amount of cash. If they were fighting today you can surely bet they will do exactly what Mayweather/Pacquiao is doing and that is fighting for the biggest paycheck instead of fighting the best to actually impress the fans.
Even Sugar Ray Leonard stated he was getting dimes and nickels compared to the boxing stars today.
Robinson was a diva. Many believe he was robbed of being a 6-time middleweight champion in the Fullmer draw because it was a measure of "payback" for his hardball tactics in negotiations and other things.
He almost pulled out of a fight twenty minutes before it started because he found out the fight would be broadcasted in Europe and he wasn't getting any rights for that.
im sure all of his best fights were never caught on camera, his prime is not recorded!.scary thought.
and he only fought for the money at one point still being a dominating beast! :boxing:
SRR was the uncrowned LW champ. But, he only had a few fights a LW. But, that was with same day weigh-in. Who knows if he could of compete at LW longer if he had a day before weigh-in and were able to rehydrate
yeah but he was also only 21yo in that fight and that guy wasnt that great at the time he beat him. Thats why he didnt want to put his title on the line even against a young guy. He had already had recent losses.
Dont get it twisted, I think he's probably the GOAT but I just dont like when people compare legends who are naturally different sizes. I use to get upset when guys like Manny Steward always would say that SRL & Hearns would kill Floyd. He said that espically alot when Floyd was just starting at WW. Alot of others said it also and you could tell that they were thinking of a WW Floyd vs a WW Hearns & SRL but how is that fair?
Hearns & Ray were in there 1st division and were huge at that weight while Floyd didnt even really belong there at the time. I always say that if you want to compare them then do it in a P4P sense. A more fair comparison is Hearns & Ray at WW vs a SFW version of Floyd who is in his 1st division. If you compare them like that then Floyd easily holds his own. Thats the way I kinda look at the Ray Robinson stuff. Id more compare him to bigger guys who were true WW's early, like an Oscar, Forrest, or Tito. Ray was 6ft also, way over the smaller Floyd & Pac

not to me really. All those guys you named are naturally much smaller then the Robinson who pretty much started at WW and was a good sized WW. The only guy truly his size is Margarito and we already know what wouldve happened in that one.....lol
