By the way, have been told @AndreBerto's team asked for $3.5 million plus PPV upside for the Pacquiao fight. Berto didn't price himself out.
Personally, I would have liked to see Pac-Berto. Berto is a young and undefeated fighter. He is also a genuine 147 pounder, unlike a Marquez. Pac will get so much crap for fighting Mosley, and deservedly so.
I read fat Dan's article on this: http://espn.go.com/sports/boxing/blog/_/name/rafael_dan/id/5945119/pacquiao-mosley-bad-fight-boxing
Pretty much agree with all that he said............
Lol even Pac's biggest nuthugger knows bullsh!t when he sees it, Berto made 1 mill fighting a bum, so asking for 3.5 mill when fighting pac is not pricing himself out not even close. Pac has no excuses.
My favorite part of the article:
Manny's partly to blame for this but Arum that dirty J-O-O.
Oh please. Arum works for Manny. Manny makes the decision. Manny takes blame. End of story. And it's always been that way. Sh*t, there have been times Arum has had to come out of his own pocket to appease his spoiled client. So let's cut the sh*t and point the finger squarely where it needs to be pointed. Not partly because we're looking for some sort of an out. That part of the article was so pathetic and speaks to the fangless and illogical thinking of boxing writers today.
My favorite part of the article:
I almost can see the way the conversation Arum had with Pacquiao went down in the Philippines last week when Arum presented Pacquiao with the three term sheets, knowing all along he wasn't going to take anyone but Mosley.
Pacquiao: I think I'd like to fight Marquez.
Arum: Did you say Mosley?
Pacquiao: No, Marquez. We have unfinished business and we had two great fights.
Arum: Did you say Mosley, or did I hear you say Miguel Cotto for a rematch?
Pacquiao: Well, maybe Berto. He's a good, young fighter. He's very fast.
Arum: Mosley, that's what I thought you said.
Pacquiao: Bob, I think I definitely want the third fight with Marquez. That's what my coach, Freddie Roach, wants. That's what the fans want. That's what I want.
Arum: So if it's the fight with Mosley you want, then the fight with Mosley it shall be.
Pacquiao: Lock up Marquez, please. Let's get it done.
Arum: Fine, we'll get Mosley, whatever you say. You're the boss. Someone get me James Prince on the phone so we can lock this up.
While Arum was getting Mosley and his adviser, Prince, on the phone, boxing fans around the world were reaching for a barf bag.Manny's partly to blame for this but Arum that dirty J-O-O.
Bob Greedy Jew Arum has opponents lined up for his cash cow to feast on right after the 12th bell rings in Pac's previous fight....saying he wanted Floyd, Berto, Marquez, ect. was all smoke in mirrors....the guy is like 100 years old and still greedy as ever
that fight would be exciting 4 however long it lasted. i think berto would start out good throwing some bombs but pacquiao would knock him out.
yup, i feel the same. Maybe not a very long fight 6-8 rounds but at least entertaining while it lasted.
Berto deserves 2 million at MOST.
And I wanted to see him fight Manny.
pac-berto is more viable
i wouldnt have mind seeing berto-pacquiao at all.
Co-freakin'-sign!
So they asked for more than triple what he's gotten paid for any other fight? After he was just on an undercard fight against Freddy Hernandez and brought in 970 fans for his previous fight against Quintana.
If I was him and really thought I could take Pacquiao I would have done whatever it took to make the fight. I don't agree with Rafael. I think he did price himself out.
You can make a great argument that Berto would give a much better fight, but there is no doubt that Mosley will bring in way more PPV's. No way Pac doesn't make up more than the $1.5 million difference fighting Mosley instead of Berto.
PEOPLE... how many different ways does Bob have to say it. He's not interested in doing any co-promotions when Manny is involved outside of a Mayweather fight (and he'd rather co-promote with King). Berto gets $3.5 mil but DiBella would be entitled to a share of the pie or even a buyout (which he turned down for Cotto-Martinez). So in the end, Mosely gets more buys AND Arum doesn't have to share revenue with any other promoter.
From a business standpoint, Arum's choice is clear. You may not agree with it, but at least use your basic reasoning skills (if you possess any) to see why the Mosley deal is much more attractive for Top Rank.
