Cotto better not step in the ring with Martinez...Margarito will give him a problem as well...Cotto is just too slow at 154...Martinez is much too fast and he's a lefty...
We've seen the best of Cotto...
Just saw the quote on fighthype:
"I have a verbal agreement from Bob Arum that Cotto will fight Sergio in September," stated Sampson Lewkowicz, world-renowned adviser of Sergio Martinez

Cotto's got a real corner this time around and Steward tweaked Cotto's game a bit- specifically his hunching stance and his footwork. I think if everything is on the up and up in the locker room before the fight, Cotto will outbox Tony like he did the first fight but won't succumb to the pressure this time. But it could go the opposite way and an even bigger/stronger Margarito will overwhelm Miguel again. But that's what makes the fight so interesting, great clash of styles, compelling storylines. And if it's in Yankees Stadium, then it will be a real event.
Wonder if Margs will take a tune up or just wait until the summer. Would make sense to have them co-feature in a March PPV, but that might be too expensive for Top Rank... would make sense on HBO though.
Good post, trust me man I thought about it loads, one thing I know for sure is that Cotto will not be able to knock our margarito, the guy has an iron jaw, unless cotto can load up on his hits and have margo weight drained like it was vs mosley, I see cotto having to fight on the outside using his cycle to survive this.
Honestly, cotto is in my opinion a 147 fighter at his best, margarito can make 147 at his best with the right training but has the body of a 154 or possibly 160 fighter!
Cotto really does not have a great defense, I was really impressed with margo against pac, I see margarito landing his bombs and the fight going the same way as the first
Doubt it. They are on to the plaster trick. The same Margarito will show up without the plaster wraps and get beat down while he marches forward like a man. :smashfrea
Nah man, you must have seen the marg vs pac fight, honestly dont get your hopes up because I seriously think they will get dashed...
I am sorry to say this but if the same margarito turns up that did against pacman, then cotto is not making it to this fight in my opinion

I prefer; Cotto-Margarito in March, Williams in June/July, Martinez in September.
Yes Cotto Margo is a must, but **** Williams let him rematch Cintron or a relevant MW and work his way back up....but Im pretty sure margo will stop Cotto again so then wed get Margo vs martinez and I wouldnt mind that at all.

Jesus.
I would prefer if he got into a time machine, went back to the 60's, bump up to HW and fight Ali.
According to Samson Lewkowicz he has a verbal agreement with Arum that Cotto and Martinez will fight in September.
blah at what weight? and Septemeber?!! Sounds like BS
Martinez is gonna retire Cotto....no offense intended either
Assuming Martinez takes a second fight before Cotto, they'll both retire at the same time. He said he had three fights left.
Come on Sergio. Andy Lee and then Cotto when you got guys in the division who are undefeated and are your size and one of them have belts. You are letting me down.
This is exactly how i thought it would up like.this will lift superiority to cotto's career assuming he gets by these opponents, wolak is a tune up and not much to be collected by but margarito and martinez back to back yes it should be.
TBH Cotto's late 3 fights were nothing to write home about: Clottey, a close fight I thought he lost last June, Pac Man last fall where he was beat down and Foreman in June where I'd live him like a B- in winning... He NEEDS a tune-up badly just from a confidence standpoint...
Its funny how people are conceding that he's going to get by Margarito in June... Tony may well crash this party in June...
I like the idea of this for Michael Angel, should be interesting...
Then Margarito fights Martinez. It'd be an easy fight to sell- the last man to decisively beat Sergio, by KO nonetheless, in a championship rematch.
Either way, great PPV-caliber fight that can be hyped up.
A verbal agreement with Bob Arum for Martinez is Cotto is like getting a crackhead to agree to come to an intervention. He might or might not agree, but that ***** isn't actually going.
No way Cotto is fighting Martinez in September after fighting Margarito in June.
I don't know what you saw in Margarito's last fight, but I saw the iron chin, iron will, stamina, and punching machine that broke Cotto in the first fight. The body shots that did little to nothing to slow down Pacquiao will wear Cotto down, whether he wins or not.
Even if Cotto ends up winning the fight, he'll take enough shots that he'll need more than 1 month rest and 3 months in between fights.
I doubt the Wolak fight is happening. It's most likely gonna be Cotto-Margarito and the winner of that faces Sergio. If that's the case, I'd order either one of those fights on PPV. They'd be big fights.
if cotto goes thru the exact same war with margarito but wins.I doubt cotto
fights martinez two months later. He would need sum time to rest.
It may well be Martinez-Margarito II in September-October instead... Then the fight could be at 160...
No but Cotto getting a couple of wins under his belt will help to make this fight more legit. If Martinez goes out and gets 2 more highlight reel kos or dominating wins how could that hurt?
