Should Amir Khan fight his April bout at Welterweight?

Amir Khan's next fight is being planned for April in the UK. Maybe it should be at 147. Tim Bradley went up to Welterweight in his last fight and beat a legitimate contender in Abregu (who was 29-0). Khan should consider this as a chance for him and Roach to see what his speed, power, stamina and chin would be like at 147 so when they permanently move up to 147 they'd be better prepared. Khan brings money to the table so he could get a title shot. Possible opponenets: - Jan Zaveck: 30-1. IBF Champion. - Viacheslav Senchenko: 31-0. WBA Champion. - Souleymane M'baye: 39-3-1. Interim WBA Champion. - Lovemore N'dou: 48-12-2. IBO Champion. - Joshua Clottey: 35-4. If I was Khan, I'd go for Senchenko. The WBA are more likely to sanction this fight because Khan's their Champion at 140lbs. Jan Zaveck is beatable too. Matt Hatton would be a good domestic fight but I doubt Hatton would take it because he's on the cusp of a title shot and wouldn't want to damage his standings at welterweight. I doubt Kell Brook or Mike Jones would fight Khan just yet because they are in-line to fight for the WBO strap if Pacman vacates. If Khan offers up to $1m to the opponent, I can't see any one of those title-holders refusing to fight him. I don't think Khan would take on Berto just yet, Berto would want crazy money and it would be a risky fight.

Khan has never fought a decent Southpaw, he should take the opportunity to fight Spadafora therefore. It could help prepare him for future showdowns with Devon Alexander and/or Victor Ortiz. Paul McCloskey is a decent contender at 140, southpaw and British. Wouldn't mind him fighting him, he's ranked number-10 by The Ring.

Alvarado is a nobody, Khan would gain nothing by having his name on his resume. Kind of like Abregu for Bradley. Just someone to test the waters at Welterweight. You don't want to fight someone too good as it's unknown territory and Welterweight might just not work out for Khan. Alverado is an undefeated fighter with a respectable KO% so it wouldn't be a bad match up. But yeah Spadafora would be better.

Mike Alvarado or Paul Spadafora would be decent match ups to test the water at 147. Alvarado is a nobody, Khan would gain nothing by having his name on his resume. Spadafora is unknown to casual fans but he's a former world-champion, undefeated and has a bit of skill. I'd like to see this fight, see how Khan can adapt to southpaws. Being the first man to beat Spadafora would look good on Khan's resume too.

Id rather him stay at 140 for the time being too be honest,fight mabuza just too keep busy If the IBF would sanction this fight for the vacant IBF title then yes, this would be the ideal match up for Khan. I'd certainly travel the 90 miles to Bolton/Manchester to see this fight live :). But I doubt they'd sanction it as Judah is their number-2 ranked fighter.

There's a reason why Roach won't let Manny step down to 140. And I'm assuming Amir won't be moving up to 147 until Manny retires. He won't let them clash heads. How would they be clashing? Khan said last week that he'd never want to fight Manny because they're such good friends.. Besides, none of those fighters in the poll are being considered as Manny's next opponent. Khan has the chance to become a two-weight world champion and increase his P4P standings. Beating an undefeated champion like Senchenko could put him in the P4P list. Especially considering he already has wins over Maidana, Malignaggi and Kotelnik.
