The first time I watch a fight, I don't really score it. I', usually watching as a fan and not as a judge or an analyst.
The first time I watched it, I was looking at Ortiz the same as everyone else was, which was as a future golden boy of boxing. Future superstar/champion. An underestimated top fighter in the division that all he needs is a chance to prove it and he will show that he is elite.
And becuz of that, I judged him harshly. Now I did take into mind the idea of him being weight drained, and him needing a new trainer. But still, he looked horrible.
But just now, I re-watched the fight thinking that he is being overrated. Thinking that he isn't a future golden boy of boxing. Isn't a future star/champion. Basically I looked at him as an ordinary boxer with some skills and a lot of power.
When I looked at him as nothing special, the fight was a lot better, and he looked a lot better.
I also got to see the reason behind a lot of the bad stuff Ortiz was doing and I came to these conclusion.
First thing: Lamont Peterson didn't look as good to me as I remember. He was doing a lot of running, a lot of holding, and a lot of holding and hitting (illegal).
When I realized how much of that Lamont was doing, i realized why Ortiz would keep distance from time to time. A lot of people were saying it was becuz he was afraid, but it seemed more that he was just tired of the running, clinching, and the illegal cheap shots during the clinches. These moments were most prominent in 3 of the rounds I gave to Lamont (6-8). It seemed like the frustration of that was what kept Ortiz on the outside, which was the prominent reason Peterson was having success. My final score was 96 - 94. I had 1 round even (round 9).
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not just trying to make excuses for Ortiz. He still looked bad considering what level he's suppose to be at. I still say he definitely needs a new trainer that can teach him different strategies for different kinds of opponents. And I still say he should consider moving up (though not as much as I did yesterday).
The biggest thing about it though is that everyone wants to go all in with these young fighters. At 23, people ask too much from Ortiz and Alexander. Amir was able to pull it off, but clearly he's a special kind of fighter. Ortiz shows signs of being exceptional, but we'll just have to give him time. The fact that we put so much stock with him just makes it so much worse when he doesn't deliver. From now on, I'm going to look at him as a young prospect that isn't ready for the spot light.
Damn two fingers wow did I get under your skin that bad,lol sure that's what this thread was about:Thinkingo..Dude you full of it,time I said I thought peterson won on rds you been trying to do everything to show why he did'int, and why then did judges(real judges I might add)scored the fight how I had it..Just admit you was wrong and Ortiz sucks and deal with it...So you do admit that scores scored the rd in which a fighter was KO'd in OMFG your a loser..Please just give it up I wish you would have put a pole in this thread so you could feel real stupid majority felt this fight was a draw..You are the only fool who did not see it that way,it because you was blinded by ya man crush..:blow::blow:
I was trying to show u Peterson didn't out box him the way u think he did, but ur an idiot so it doesn't matter talking. Ortiz fukked ur wife, and now ur out for revenge... End thread.
Bold: wtf r u even talking about lol. I admit... That scoring the 6th wasn't ur biggest mistake? Ur an idiot... If u knew how to comprehend you'd know I said wasn't ur BIGGEST mistake. It don't mean it wasn't still a mistake lmao... If u paid attention in school and learned comprehension, you'd know that. Ur an idiot, end thread
You don't need a trainer to tell you if a guy is holding and hitting to hold and hit as well..Esp if the ref is letting it go,dude was the bigger dude and anyone with two eyes could see that so why not...You make every excuse in the book for Ortiz but facts are Ortiz is the bigger puncher/man..If he does not know how to use his advantages you can't fully blame his corner..
Actually u do need a trainer for that so stop talking cuz ur an idiot
Learn how to read... Everyone here has been saying he needs a new trainer. But since u don't know much about boxing, u didn't even know why. U just wanted to copy what everyone else was saying.

Lmao, the point of this thread was not to say Ortiz won. It was to point out the specifics and to tell everyone to no longer look at Ortiz like an elite boxer so as to save urself from disappointment. You'd notice that if u went to school.
I mean, why even comment anymore, u have already been proven to not know wut ur talking about. U don't know how to score fights. Scoring the 6th wasn't ur biggest mistake, ur biggest mistake was not knowing simple math. 56=55 right? Lmao
U wanna know why the judges scored the 12th in the Froch/Taylor fight? Becuz there was only 12 seconds left in the round, so why not? Hmm....:fing26:

So you mean to tell me that a guy who out weighed his opponent by 10lbs was not coming forward for fear of being clinch??This does not make sense that should have been his game plan..To clinch and wear Peterson down with inside body shots..I can't believe anybody can make an excuse for a guy who was the bigger puncher and weighed 10lbs over his opponents weight..:kabong:

Damn everybody on your thread is saying the fight was a draw when they watch it back son get a grip..As for you saying nobody scored the rd in wich Ortiz was stopped in,then why did ring side scores score the Froch Taylor fight??You give a score cause the way the rd was going before the fight was stopped..They showed the final scores in the Froch and Taylor fight and Taylor would have won by a rd..Anyway just get ya excuses ready for Ortiz next fight unless he fights some bum,or a lightweight or something..I can't wait to hear what it's gonna be this time..Oh yea just want to make sure you think Ortiz was dominating Maidana before he was stopped right??LMFAO..

I gave Ortiz rounds 1, 3, 4, 5, 9, and 10. (I scored 9 as even, it doesn't matter who u give 9 to, Ortiz still wins on my card). Would u say that was crazy scoring on my part?
I'm not blaming Lamont for doing the illegal bit, I'm just pointing it out. Most people think Ortiz backed off and stayed on the outside becuz he afraid to get hit. It looked more to me like he was staying on the outside in order to avoid being clinched, and hit during the clinches, possibly to try and put Lamont on the offensive so he can counter. As everyone saw in the fight, Ortiz is not skilled enough to counter Lamont on the outside, and that's why he started getting outboxed. But that didn't really start until about round 6, and was only really effective up to round 8. Round 9 was when the action died drastically, and I called that round even. And like I said, it didn't matter who u gave that round to, Ortiz still should have won. Round 10 went to Ortiz cuz he was forcing the fight and outlanding Lamont all the way up until there was about 20 seconds left.
That's what I saw... And since most of the scorings I've seen had around the same score as mine for Ortiz, that must be what most other people saw as well
So you mean to tell me that a guy who out weighed his opponent by 10lbs was not coming forward for fear of being clinch??This does not make sense that should have been his game plan..To clinch and wear Peterson down with inside body shots..I can't believe anybody can make an excuse for a guy who was the bigger puncher and weighed 10lbs over his opponents weight..:kabong:
Based off that, than u clearly don't know how to score fights, so now I feel even more confident about my scorecard. U scored the 6th?
Anyway, let me add ur scorecard up for u:
Ortiz: 10+10+10+9+9+8 = 56
Maidana: 9+7+9+10+10+10 = 55
So explain to me how you had a draw? lol
This is taking into mind I don't think anyone else scored the 6th, and no one else gave Maidana round 4. Do that math and see what score u get for each guy.
I watched the fight live in Mandalay Bay and the replay in HBO. Lamont's jab might not be effective in terms of hurting but it did bother Ortiz. Lamont was landing the cleaner punches in the later rounds. Ortiz was effective the first 3-4 rounds but Lamont got some rhytm going on and Ortiz seems puzzled by that. If you can see in the later rounds, Ortiz seems figuring out on how to attack Lamont. Ortiz was effective when he was attacking but he didn't do that enough in the 2nd half of the fight. When Ortiz was going forward, he didn't do anything and get countered or hit by a jab. He went backward and Lamont was following him and throwing jab.
As far as as holding and clinches, it might be illegal but how many times we seen that in other fights. Its the referre who should warn then deduct a point from a fighter. But the ref didn't do that. So for Lamont or other boxers, its either the ref is not saying sh*t, then i will continue doing it or it must be legal then.
As far as the skills of Ortiz, he needs to change trainer. He was just going forward, throwing a jab then follow by a punch or combos, nothing realy special. He does have some good counterpunching, he did it a couple of times against Peterson.

Lamont was doing a lot of running, holding, and holding and hitting. His jab wasn't even really that effective. Every time Ortiz chose to bum rush him, his jab did nothing to prevent that. The reason Ortiz would keep his distance periodically was becuz Lamont would hold on the inside, and would illegally hit during the clinches.
Weight drained or not, the above did happen.
People miss all that becuz they don't care to analyze all the little things. They just wanna harshly judge. Most don't even bother to watch the fight again to make sure they're first idea was right.

Oh boy you are delusional..Sad really,ok will continue this when Ortiz moves up to 147lb..I wonder what ya excuse for why he gets his ass beat up there??I bet it's because he took the water weight up with him..Are even better because someone was holding and hitting..LOL ok..BTW:I gave rds 4,5,6(Before Ortiz was stopped of course)to Maidana which he deserved..Ortiz I gave rds 1,2,3(and he narrowly won rd 1 **** I was tempted to call that rd even)
Based off that, than u clearly don't know how to score fights, so now I feel even more confident about my scorecard. U scored the 6th?
Anyway, let me add ur scorecard up for u:
Ortiz: 10+10+10+9+9+8 = 56
Maidana: 9+7+9+10+10+10 = 55

This is taking into mind I don't think anyone else scored the 6th, and no one else gave Maidana round 4. Do that math and see what score u get for each guy.
Ottiz looked incredible in the first 3 rounds, pulling off some great shots, with angles. Seems to me Ortiz crumbles in the latter stages - Maidana is a good example. I think Ortiz needs another couple of tune-up fights yet before stepping up to the big time. If he steps up to early he will only make a hawl of it again. A new trainer would be an option, as Ortiz looks out of idea's as the fight goes deeper into the second half of the fight.
On ur card, and on ur card alone lol. Maidana won the 5th, and arguably the 1st. How could u possibly have scored it even considering the knockdowns? Unless u scored the 6th, but why would u?
If he'd have gained something around what Peterson gained 8 or 9 pounds, that's average. But the fact he gained about 15 pounds shows his body was seriously starving for nutrition. If a guy was stranded in the dessert for 2 days, was rescued and given a full meal, would u expect him to be able to box 10 rounds? Ur reason for thinking he wasn't weight drained is simply incorrect. Unless of course by weight drain, u think De La Hoya/Pacquiao.
That said, it's water weight anyway. It's not gonna add to his strength and power.
Lol, but I bet that means nothing to u cuz I already know u can't explain nutrition to boxing fans. They either don't believe u or don't want to admit it.
I won't admit it. If u knew boxing a little better u'd know that when the referee says "Punch out" that means break the clinch with ur punches (taking into mind the referee never said "punch out"). That was illegal holding and hitting. U can't hold/immobilize ur opponent and hit him with the other hand. And what ur thinking is the referee wasn't breaking them up while Lamont held and hit, which is not true. Lamont was just lucky the referee didn't catch it as well as the camera's did to give him a hard warning. If that was his gameplan, than it was brilliant, but it was dirty.
That being said, Ortiz still won the fight lol. The illegal holding and hitting kept Ortiz on the outside for rounds 6, 7, 8, and somewhat in round 9 (I scored that even). Other than those rounds, Peterson didn't outbox Ortiz at all. U could give him the second, cuz the only thing outstanding that happened in that round was a few right hands to Ortiz's side during the clinch. Ortiz won every other round quite handily, Plus got 2 knockdowns. Not a draw.

people really need to rewatch the fight and put the Ortiz hate to the side Lamont wasnt doing **** and was on the defensive most of the fight he took a page from Mora playbook and was fighting scared after almost getting KO'd
what fight were u watching? Ortiz did nothing after rd 3... The 2nd kd was bs... Peterson was never hurt the whole fight and he landed the cleaner power shots while boxing and wrestling with a guy 10-lbs bigger and noticably so...
LOL damn you just proved me right,Maidana was all even on my card when he stopped Ortiz..
On ur card, and on ur card alone lol. Maidana won the 5th, and arguably the 1st. How could u possibly have scored it even considering the knockdowns? Unless u scored the 6th, but why would u?
If you can't see Maidana damage Ortiz then I don't know what to tell ya..I also already explained why the weight drain excuse was garbage,Ortiz was allowed to weigh in at 141lb and then went up ten pounds more..He was at a comfortable weight on fight night and was out boxed..
If he'd have gained something around what Peterson gained 8 or 9 pounds, that's average. But the fact he gained about 15 pounds shows his body was seriously starving for nutrition. If you also don't know boxing it's not my fault, you said Peteerson was holding and hitting(Illegally)but if you know boxing if the ref does not tell you to break that means you punch out buddie..Which Peterson was doing, face it Peterson was at a major disadvantage and out boxed Ortiz with a sound gameplan..

LOL damn you just proved me right,Maidana was all even on my card when he stopped Ortiz..I never said Ortiz was running read my post,I did however say he was hesitant cause he was..The Ortiz of old would have overwhelm Peterson he was 10lbs bigger then him and was the bigger puncher...If you can't see Maidana damage Ortiz then I don't know what to tell ya..I also already explained why the weight drain excuse was garbage,Ortiz was allowed to weigh in at 141lb and then went up ten pounds more..He was at a comfortable weight on fight night and was out boxed..If you also don't know boxing it's not my fault, you said Peteerson was holding and hitting(Illegally)but if you know boxing if the ref does not tell you to break that means you punch out buddie..Which Peterson was doing, face it Peterson was at a major disadvantage and out boxed Ortiz with a sound gameplan..I have no stake in either fighter and have no hate for Ortiz,I wanted Ortiz to do well I just knew and said for months that it would not be as easy as many thought..I was right,to take it further Peterson rd by rd beat Ortiz but like I said before because of the knockdown I gave it a draw..Just deal with it Ortiz does not like punishment and can't really take it either..Peterson also showed he can be out boxed..Ortiz has to many flaws,if he was hungry enough I would say he could overcome this but I just don't believe he is..Ortiz was not dominating Maidana and if they fought a rematch it would end even worse for Ortiz..
show us your Ortiz vs Maidana score card for the 6 rounds
round by round please
Well u made the comment "Peterson staggered Ortiz and Mora didn't". All I did was point out the difference.
There r fans, and there r haters. As a fan, I've already admitted that wasn't his best performance.
As a hater, u saw running, and now u wanna say he was scared. U saw Peterson have some success, and now u've convinced urself he outboxed Ortiz. U here me say he was weight drained, and instead of checking if my reason why was correct (I even say in on first page I may be wrong about it), u just skip that and call it an excuse.
And the fact u think Maidana was winning the fight against Ortiz... I don't see how ur judgment of this fight would be any more credible.
