That`s bad new for Marquez, he can only sell 300 more ticket than a newcomer. Even a young prospect is more popular than him, Saul Alvarez.
Margarito, even after what happen to him, sold more PPV with Pacquiao than Marquez-Mayweather.
Marquez is skill, but has the worst personnality in boxing scene.
yeah they do need to get out of Vegas..Bob Arum at least has the right idea doing big fights elsewhere
I'm pretty sure Pascal-Hopkins is going to sell out in Canada though...going to be a good atmosphere
If the "big fights elsewhere' model was successful, then why is Bob going back to Vegas for manny's next fight?
Bob even said (ha!) that the Cotto Yankee stadium fight was not financially successful. And we know that the gate for the Texas Stadium fights were 5-6 million.
Would you rather get paid in dollars...or seats?
Fights end up in Vegas because the casino's pay a lot of money for them and the promoters give in to that. Khan can get more fans in the UK to come to his fight, but it works differently. Golden Boy would have to hire a venue, then sell tickets at a price that people would come for, get Sky to broadcast it, HBO wouldn't pay as much as usual because of the time frame....and the money wouldn't be as much. Plus, in the UK, nobody writes about boxing...getting serious exposure here doesn't work....Ricky Hatton was one in a million...no one cared about Lennox Lewis. Even now, nobody cares about him, which is a damn shame.
It's not got anything to do with GBP being bad promoters, they're top...the whole movie theatre thing sounded pretty awesome and went down well with the fans. The free tickets casinos give away is nothing....I'm pretty sure the casino's want people to get their asses on seats...for them to go and gamble like crazy and spend money in the casino after...thats their aim. They don't care about comp tickets. Even Mayweather Vs JMM, half the tickets were comps, but it didn't mater, they got what they wanted and they got 1million buys...so it works for them. Sucks for real fans like us though :-(
I agree. I live close to St Louis and was super excited for Alexander-Bradley to come there, but then if fell through there. I did get to go to Diaz-Malignaggi II in Chicago which was awesome. I wish they would have more fights in other cities so I could get to go to more fights.
I can understand Maidana-Khan having that attendance. Khan is just getting known here in the US. Both Maidana and Khan does not have a strong fan base yet. I mean not much Pakistani-Brit and Argentinians living in the US.
Katsidis does not much have a strong based either but JM Marquez has been known since his battle with Pacquiao in 2004. Plus Golden Boy has promoted him since 2006 or 07. JMM has been in PPV fights. More Mexican fan based compare to the other fighters fan base.
I like Las Vegas but they should hold boxing events such as Los Angeles. Hope Montiel-Donaire will be in Staples or Honda Center.
no fools it was 4000-5000 paid tickets, the rest was given for free, they dot rent out part of the mgm they rent out the whole mgm and its usually pretty full not because of they got them all brought off, they usually sell about 5000 and give away around 5-6000 for free
how can you get those free tickets?

yeah i read on pascals twitter that the tickets sold out in a couple of hours
Without a fucking doubt they need to get out of Vegas.
What UFC is doing is they visit major cities for almost all of their cards. People treat the UFC fights like a concert coming to town. Boxing really needs to do this start it out small with the big names going to New York, Miami, LA, Philly, Chicago, Dallas and everything. Make it an annual thing advertise it and it would do wonders for the sport.
The sport isnt going to survive on ppvs alone
i agree 100 percent.
both fights in u.k would of done over 15000 people
bring the big fights over here
yeah or maybe even more.
