Can somebody please name the last FOTY where one guy was running more than 50% of the time, If anybody watched the Mares-Darchinyan fight, they would know that fight would rank higher in the FOTY vote.
It still was a very good fight, but Khan didn't stand in front a KNOCKOUT artist like Mares did for entire fight and kept coming foward.
im a darch fan and no way that fight was even close to the amir one
yes there was running but whens the last time youve also seen the hunter running and chasing?

Oh the irony, coming from a Floyd fan.

Soto-Antillion, Marquez-Katsidis and Khan-maidana were all great fights. Any of those fights can be crowned as fight of the year. What I don't get is why do people get so upset over silly things, like whether a fight is FOTY or not. If you get upset by things like this then your life must suck hard.
Your logic is somewhat reasonable, but in a year when Calderon was involved in a FOTY, then you know it's flawed.
Boxing writers usually favor the more popular fighters and fights, so Khan-Maidana has a serious shot. Soto-Antillon or Calderon-Segura should be the front runners, but since they were on obscure PPV's between lesser known fighters, it can lose to the fights that happened on HBO or Showtime involving bigger names.
Last time a fight won that was on non-US TV was in 2006 and it was because the sh!t was brutal.
LOL He who throws insults on a boxing forums is a dummy :P Darchinian/Mares was nowhere near as good,i was watching that fight first and switched over to see Ortiz's fight,You obviously no nothing about fighting,if you had just got clobbered by the hardest puncher in your weight class and you had no legs, you'd be backpeddling too! The running was better for excitement than if he would have just been hugging him the whole time,it made it suspenseful like a hound trying to catch a wounded fox!

lol whatever. Khan-Maidana easily took Fight of the Year. Runner-up is Marquez-Katsidis. Darchinyan vs. Mares was not a good fight at all.
It was a good fight, but not FOTY.
I noticed most of the people who think it is FOTY are from England, so this fight might of had more meaning for them. I'm sure Pac-Marg is FOTY in the Phillipines.
TS shouldn't have put your a dummy if you thought so, that's why your catching sh!t.
The best fights are usually the ones involving contrasting styles. You saw two contrasting styles make probably the FOTY in Khan-Maidana. That's why Segura-Calderon and Marquez-Katsidis are contenders.
best fight i saw all year was a ESPN friday nights fight i saw on youtube after hearing it was a war.
not sure of the names, Escalante v Roman or something like that?
It wasnt a major fight so it wont win FOTY, but it was the best one i saw
As a purist I thought it was fight of the year, it reminded me of great fights in the past, it had a frazier-ali, taylor-chavez, feel to it. I love those fights, sure there were maybe not always toe to toe exchanges like barrera-morales type fight but there were plenty of exchanges and the styles blended so well. Khan uses the ring like sugar ray when he would fight dangerous opponents, it was the way he dominated duran in the rematch. In fights where there are a lot of exchanges its because both guys can take each others power shots equally as well, and really both guys struggled with the other guys power, khan especially. But the fight had a great rhythm to it. Khan would spray maidana with shots and maidana worked hard to cut off the ring and then would unload with uppercuts and body shots.
It was a great fight, and I certainly wouldn't argue if it won, and wouldn't call anyone a dummy for thinking it was.
Mares-Darchinyan was a very good fight. I didn't score it, I just watched it, and as far as I could tell off the top of my head, it could've as easily been a draw, but Mares was the aggressor, and in a close fight that sometimes makes the difference. Darchinyan cracked me up in the post-fight interview. Still I think Khan vs Maidana was better, b/c it had better, more exciting moments and perhaps it wasn't as close, but that doesn't always take away from the fight. I thoroughly enjoyed both bouts, and hopefully they can all do rematches. And yes, Khan vs Maidana was FOTY, it was f'in dope. It just had more drama in it, the fast start with both guys trading, the knockdown, the comeback, more trading, Khan's chin being tested, it proved well, but then he got hurt...yeah he ran from the like the middle of the 10th through the 11th, until the middle of the 12th, but he got hurt, he was tryna recover, I can't get mad at him for that. All in all, I thought it was a more exciting fight. :boxing:
There is no running allowed in a FOTY, Khan ran for more than 3 rounds. I'm not trying to take away from this fight, but this not even top three.
Great fight...lots of drama...Maidana had to come back from a beautifully thrown and landed body shot from Khan...and Khan had to hang on for dear life after being rocked during the latter half of the fight...
This was a throwback fight only thing missing was rounds 13-15 (Which I believe Maidana would have won).
Khan used a lot of boxing skill and Maidana showed that classic toughness...Great fight.
Peace Mo!
