The most corrupt, shady ref in boxing. He did that **** to Hatton as well. It's funny I hadn't seen Cortez in any big fights for a year until now. The first thing I thought when I saw Cortez was "he's not gonna let MM fight inside".... and that's what happened. Where's Kenny Bayless? he hated Chaves with a passion too!!!!!

Calzaghe/Hopkins was a joke of a fight mainly because of Cortez poor reffing skills, Cortez fails at big fights. whenever hopkins had a hand free and was banging calzaghe he broke them.whenever hopkins held on to buy time later in the fight he broke them. he just doesn't allow inside fighting or inside anything. cortez's reffing hurt hopkins because he couldn't do his usual inside dirty boxing and it hurt calzaghe later in the fight when hopkins got tired and started stalling. calzaghe has no inside game though so i don't see the big deal. anytime hopkins clinched him he just stopped and waited for the break. he's not an inside fighter he's a medium range fighter. unlike hatton and maidana who rely on inside fighting a lot. calzaghe is lucky cortez was the ref because most refs would have let hopkins do his inside fighting and he would have mauled calzaghe the entire fight andre ward style. cortez was chosen for a reason and it wasn't to help hopkins.

And he pushes them apart big time to create distance for Khan. It was pretty obvious Golden Girls Promotions paid off Joe Cortez. Golden Girls Promotions has never been good for boxing, I hope they go out of business with there shady ****. Lou Dibella is best promoter in my books and while Arum ain't the best promoter atleast he doesn't seem shady enough to buy off refs. I'm not convinced he's paid off, but I am convinced he's horrible. He shouldn't be in there.

Cortez did a great job. Suggesting he was paid off is one of the worst thing boxing fans can do to our sport. How is Khan holding Maidana with one arm, and Maidana continues to hit Khan with his free hand and then Cortez constantly breaking them up "a great job"? Horrible. If one hand is free it's legal. He just makes it up as he goes.
