What is the deal with Katsidis' right hand? One of the strangest things I have ever seen. Almost crablike, and so amateur for a guy fighting for championships....
He's not a dirty fighter, he's always fought like that. The power doesn't look very impressive when he throws those sort of punches, Marquez wasn't complaining.
I had the same question. It bothered me so much because Kats is capable of extending his right hand. Weird punch. It had no power behind it yet it landed more than half of the time.
It was just so strange....did they not think to work on that at training camp?

Just imagine if it had the same snap and power as his left hook.

Definitely weird looking and pretty funny. Talking about this fight, what surprised me was that Kats said afterwards that JMM was stronger than him. Didn't expect that at all
Do you think he meant that generally or actually about pure strength?
im suprised his trainer hasnt tried to fix his technique on that punch....but maybe its just a habit that kats got into when he was young and cant change it this late in his career
yeah, my friend and I were talking about that the whole fight, the way he was throwing that right hand. We were both like, "there's no way he's getting much impact on that."

It would have been more effective in the old days with rougher gloves, seams, etc. I imagine the worst of it is rug burn after the fight.
agreed, it couldn't cause a cut but it could be irritating? Really though it is a terrible, terrible show of form...
but I can't imagine it has any effect on his opponent. Perhaps it could cause a cut, but only on swollen tissue....

It's borderline (if not outright) illegal a lot of the time. The way he yanks it down, it often becomes a flush forearm to the face with some leather skinning on it. When he gets a full glove rake off it, it must be among the most annoying punches to take in the game (i.e. it might not KO you, but that has to burn).

Yeah, it got on my nerves too...
If it would have been a better thrown right hand, he might have had a better shot in the fight...It landed all night..:dunno:
Man it was SO weird...almost looks like he was throwing elbows, but im sure it feels like a slap to Marquez, I don't think that could hurt any top 10 fighter in his division.
