Malignaggi's moving upto Welterweight because he said things weren't working for him at 140. I don't think he was weight-drained though so I think he can make a 144 catchweight.
I'm proposing a catchweight because I don't think either Kotelnik and Malignaggi have yet to fight at 147, so at a catch-weight there won't be much difference in what we've seen from them at 140lbs.
Malignaggi is trying to revive his career after being crushed by Khan. Kotelnik got his ears boxed off by Khan but is coming off the back of a WIN against Devon Alexander, he is the rightful WBC and IBF Light-Welterweight champ. Paulie is the former IBF champ.
Who takes this? It's safe to say that neither fighter is getting KO'd as they are both feather-fisted and both have great chins.
Yea he's definitely improved, but Khan still beats him, probably even stops him late in the fight because his power has really improve.
Kotelnik's been too inactive recently - 1 fight since losing the title to Khan. And he's in his 30s now so inactivity is only going to play into Malignaggi's hands (fragile as they may be ;))..
It's now or never for both fighters. they should be fighting 3 times a year (especially Kotelnik who is older) and trying to make as much $$ as possible. I think a Paulie/Kotelnik fight in New York sells well, Paulie's fans always come out to support him. Could probably make $200-300k each from that fight, more if there's a title on the line.
Khan had a masterful plan. He kept turning kotelnik and it worked wonders. i agree, khan will always beat him. He had a great strategy that fight and kotelnik i feel doesnt have the power to change that.
Part of his success against devon was the fact that devon is a southpaw who jabs from the hip.. so Kotelniks jab was always going to come over and land. But he's definitely improved. He seems to be more of a counter jabber now than he was previously and i think it opens big doors for him against some of the fighters today.
Especially Malignaggi.. who was beat by.. you guessed it... a counter jab in khan.
i don't think you can compare Paulie with Devon
I don't thikn you can compare Paulie with Khan....
But YOU manage to do it based on foot and hand speed.
SOmething Devon has as well - so the comparison is sound.
Ahh cool, I'm still picking Paulie though. I'm a fan of his.
Paulie has a good jab too, it's his only effective punch tbh. Kotelnik has good timing though and is accurate, but i think Paulie is quite slick.
Paulie is kinda slick but I think his defence is overrated, he circles the wrong way mosta the time and isnt that elusive. Whereas Kotelnik has a great defence. It'd be a close-ish fight but I'd give the edge to Kotelnik
Who the hell mentioned Khan?
It amazes me how many people fail to take a minute to read the thread on this site...
lol.. i reckon it's the whole Khan/Maidana buzz on this forum.
Both guys have officially decided to move up to 147.
The fight would be at 147.
And I pick Kotelnik.

Speed is countered by timing and a good jab. Kotelnik takes this.

Saw how it worked in the Alexander fight too......
Don't count kotelnik out. HE seems to have learned a bit from the khan fight

Paulie moves pretty well on his feet & has pretty fast punches, we saw how that worked in the Kotelnik - Khan fight

I think it would be a good fight, and competitive.
It would be toe-to-toe boxing as neither has power and both have great chins. So jabs, hooks and straights are going to be exchanged. Could be a war and contender for FotY.
When Kotelnik moves up in weight he should fight Paulie.
In New York Paulie gets the decision. In Ukraine Kotelnik gets it. In neutral territory it's a toss up, but I think Paulie wins it.

I got Paulie

I'm picking Malignaggi by SD.
Both a good boxers but I think Paulie's superior speed would be decisive.
I think Paulie has got good skills and the only thing he's missing is power. In another thread I said that if he had power he would have had the potential to become a P4P fighter as he could have beaten Cotto as he pushed Cotto all the way and landed good shots. If he had good power he could possibly have won a decision over Cotto. He could have caused Hatton more problems as well, but Hatton was a beast that night.
If he had more power he wouldn't have been robbed in his first fight with Diaz as the damage Diaz would have taken would have been more evident. He also landed a few good shots on Khan's whiskers and could have tested his chin.
