Paul is more like a JMW naturally. Fighting above the weight he is comfortable fighting was his untimely demise. He had himself stretched to the limit in the Martinez fight because he does not have enough power to harm a fighter like Martinez. Martinez.. that fighter has power and great technique. Been getting robbed for too long. Of both fights and fight fans' regard. Its probably due to his name.. Initially when I heard Martinez name I thought he would be some weak boy band mariachi Zorro type.
But I was wrong.. Sergio is one of the best things about boxing right now. Floyd should fight Sergio.. Prove that a man can TRULY disregard weight class by adjusting tactics as Paul Williams simply cannot do, bereft of defense... His only defense is his great heart... He may have maneuvered before the fight, as every fighter does, but when he stepped in the squared circle he was gonna win or go out trying. Williams has won my regard as a fight fan. I was skeptical of him for too long. Williams has something that boxing is gradually losing due to commercial concerns. Heart. Look! He had his eyes open, he was still trying! even after the thunderous intercepting fist of Martinez sent him to the crypt! Boxing is just so interesting right now.. I would rather watch a Floyd/Martinez fight than a Floyd/Pac fight at this point. Or Pac/Martinez..
If Pac can spark or somehow stop Martinez or even weather him and win the D.. I will be forever his fan... not that im not already, despite all the controversy. Floyd could also fight Martinez for a huge boost in ATG standings. Sergio's style reminds me of Marquez's, except Sergio is greatly more powerful than Marquez. Also Sergio has more vertical movement in his core. Both great counterpunchers.
But Sergio did the perfect thing, made the perfect choice, in this PW fight. He executed a knockout counter.
I would not count Sergio out against Floyd OR Pac.
PW?? I have respect for him. A fighter with heart. What a novelty. He will adjust.. I seriously think he needs to settle at JMW and take everyone out. Or.. He could make the bold choice, and fight Martinez in a tie breaker. Both have wins over the other. All Williams need do.. all I would beg beg beg him to do.. is change his style. Get another trainer, one who understands more than just unchecked aggression. When you are always "on" as PW is in his fighting style, it leaves little time for careful tactics in there. He must guard himself against the knockout punch.. A man should not get hit like that unless he has done something wrong. Goodness gracious!
anyways.. let me take another hit...
So.
Envision a world. A place of indescribable beauty and strength. Our favorite fighters live in that world. They are 10 times of us. Does this bother you? I would be sparked by Manny, Floyd, Sergio, AND PW and I am not ashamed to say... I simply do not train enough to be on their level of physicality. Could I? Maybe if I had found the motivation to train so religiously in at least my late teens early twenties.. I'm 30 on my next birthday.. That train has passed I guess I mean, I'm a little heavier than all of them and I have boxed and done kung fu so I would have a pretty powerful punch.. but I wouldn't have the WIND to face any of them. That training is like a full time job. I have a full time job already. Two actually, if you count my lady.. Where would I find the energy and TIME to train like that..
Interesting point..
Consider though, Pac would go out to win or go out on his shield. Pac has a mountain of heart. A mountain range of heart. His heart is far greater than PW's.. its comes from a more disciplined place. He can and would dig deep and throw bombs of his own. Remember his assassination of Hatton? Now I'm not saying Hatton has Maravilla's chin, BUT, Hatton gave future HOF'er Kosta Tsyu all he can handle and more. And Kosta was an unusually heavy handed 140'er. Pac could possibly KO Maravilla if he sits down on his punches. Throwing at speed and angles to befuddle his opponent peppering him with power shots mixed in with stinging shots..until WHAM, he builds to a crescendo and sits on one.
Another thing to consider about a Pac-Martinez matchup... Pac has his movement. Movement far superior to PW's or Maravilla's. One thing I've noticed about Pac, the way he neutralizes some of the damage he can be recieving. He has an excellent sense of distance. He can hover right in the right place to execute a whirlwind attack, and also put himself out of danger just as quickly. But when he DOES get hit.. he's in the perfect distance to make the punch not have as much crack as it might have. Thats how he got passed some of the heavy hitters like Cotto with his hooks, and a war torn Margarito.
And Floyd's heart? Well its as our good friend Nazim Richardson said.. with my own added twist: Floyd may be the worst human being in the world outside of the ring, though I would be inclined to say not quite.. But in the ring he is Floyd. He will struggle with just being defensive and adjusting in the first quarter of the fight to figure out Maravilla's movements and guage his deadly power... and that style, and his out of ring misadventures has him painted as this no heart cat. Well,,, Floyd aint gonna give up in the ring though. He would be pushed to his utmost limitation, but then he'd turn into a dragon.
at some point the size advantage becomes too much. I think 15-20+ lbs is around that point.
if pac or wifebeater fights martinez, I would give them big ups for even stepping in the ring. pac'll be giving up 20+ lbs... wifebeater abotu 15+ lbs. not really a fair fight.

Well,
Floyd may be able to outslick Martinez. And Pac outmaneuver and outwork him. But if Martinez catches up to either of them with heavy MW shots, yeah, its lights out.
Its a risk for both Pac and Floyd to fight Maravilla.. thats why I want to see it as a fight fan. Tired of the lower risk fights by either fighter lately.. I would still slightly favor both over Maravilla.. Especially if pac does his catchweight thing, and Floyd his OST thing to get in Sergio's head.
Maravilla and Marquez? Well Maravilla is more powerful as I said, with more core movement.. And Maravilla is slicker than Marquez. But the way both set up their punches is similar.

And PW may be able to stay at 160, I'll give you that. But he needs a new trainer. Quick.
The man has no defense. And he's not a heavy enough puncher to compensate for that at 160
yep, his current trainer sucks. that fools been with pwill forever, but can't even get pwill to keep his off hand by his chin. c'mon man.
IDK Pull, I think he can be defensive and be just as offensive...Paul Williams lacks patience. i dont see him being able to adjust his style at this point and fight like The Klits, tall and behind their jabs.
good post tho
pwill don't have to fight like the klits. he can still fight like himself, the volume puncher, but he's gotta fix the defensive mistakes.

pwill can hang at 160 lbs, he just needs to improve his defense. anybody that hooks with their off hand that low is gonna get KTFO. he can get away with poor technique at WW cause he's so big, but he can't get away with it at 160 lbs.
what I really want to see from pwill is improvement to his defense without sacrificing his all out action style. it's possible, he just has to dot all his "i"s and cross his "t"s. I don't wanna see him go back to 147 lbs. that's a cop out.
I always like martinez, ever since they started showing him on HBO. martinez will beat both wifebeater and pac. martinez is just too big for either guy.
Still prefer congressman vs wifebeater.
s-mart ain't no jmm. jmm's way better technically. s-mart gets away with a lot of mistakes cause of his speed and southpaw angles.
