Would you agree with this claim?
Yes, just yes.....Chavez was a crude face first brawler who'd never have gotten a sniff at 100-0 if he hadn't been Don King's post Tyson mealticket.

And goes even further:
I can. Especially if there's no Don King handpicked picked referee to pull his raisins out of the bran. Take away the protection he got as Don King's mealticket and all Chavez is is an Arturo Gatti with a better chin and a weaker punch. Not to mention his record has more padding than a flat-chested 17 year old on prom night.

To me,this claim is just complete nonsense. His dominantion of Edwin Rosario is arguably the most clinical and text-book display of pressure and inside fighting that has ever been displayed inside the ring.
Just watch the final round here:
His performances against Rocky Lockridge and Jose Luis Ramirez, aside from displaying his underrated counter punching ability, also showcased his versatility as a fighter,as he used angles and boxed off of the backfoot to great success. He also showed this in flashes against Frankie Randall in their rematch, where he was no longer the fighter that he had been four or five years previously.
They dont have part 5 of Juan La Porte vs Julio Cesar Chavez but if they did, it would show all the boo'ing lol They left out the last part of the fight on youtube to not show, Julio Cesar Chavez "win" lol what other reason is it missing for?
Laporte? Now you're just being ridiculous. It was a pretty close fight, sure. But Chavez won that fight fair and square.
Its on Youtube for everyone to see, it was a robbery, check it out.
Well thats just silly.
Let's hear a bit more about how silly it is...
start by naming ten better of his era
and lets have some reasons
some fights please
specific points where you find your evidence to prove how silly it is by finding a wealth of superior counterpunchers
i'll say it again
if you're slower than your opponents
and you still land the cleaner punches
you arent a brawler.
three personal robberies that I know of are Julio Cesar Chavez vs Juan La Porte, Taylor, and Parnell Whitaker.....

Margarito and Chavez's style mirror each other yet people consider Margarito a one dimensional fighter. I'd say that both fighters Margarito and Chavez both would take there opponents best shots and keep pressuring nonstop. Exactly why I expect Margarito to get stopped against Cotto, Margarito's taken too much punishment and from quality opponents.
Their styles are nothing alike, all you have to do is watch them and see the HUGE difference in skill.
While they were both pressure fighters, the similarities end there. Marg isn't 1/2 the boxer Chavez is and has little to no defense. Chavez didn't get hit flush a lot, if you watch him closely he was great at deflecting punches and slipping especially on the inside.
To say Chavez is nothing but a brawler is to say you know nothing about boxing.
How Taylor was a robbery I have no idea how anyone can claim that. Chavez landed a shot and put him down.
When talking about it ppl act like Don King and Steele had known before hand that JC would score that KD right at the end and conspired to rob him.
Taylor was on dream street using the ropes to hold him up, unresponsive to Steele, if he wanted to continue had he had to do was let Steele know he was ok which he clearly wasn't.
Guy got brain damaged just to be stopped 5 secs before victory, are you crazy? That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard, he fought with a heart of gold, and was mere secounds of the greatest victory of his life, to be stopped only 5 secs on his feet from victory.
he shoulda of won
that was against an out of prime b class fighter. why don't you show them the Tyzu and Dela hoya fight. :lol1:
Are you referring to Edwin Rosario? If so,you're wrong on both accounts.

Chavez boxing skills being underrated have caused them to be overrated, people describe his boxing skills as being great - they weren't, they were good. He never outboxed any decent boxer, obviously his inside skills were a thing to behold though. I don't agree with poets assessment of him but I do agree that he was very lucky in many instances. Poets a good and knowledgeable poster though.
Jose Luis Ramirez and Rocky Lockridge were certainly alot more than just "decent".Chavez also outboxed Frankie Randall in patches during their their rematch.
Poet most certinly isn't a "good and knowledgeable poster".

Chavez had great boxing skills. Had very good defense but he wasnt defensive savant like sweet pea or willy pep (very few are) but to say that he is a face first brawler the likes of margarito is really exposing your lack of knowledge of the type of fighter Julio Cesar Chavez was or your lack of knowledge for the sweet science
Chavez had a great left hook to the body that would come out at any time. He also could lead with the right and his jab wasn't bad either. His defense was very subtle and he rolled and counter when he got hit. He is not by no means a face first brawler
