Listen...JASON LITZAU...everybody had him getting KO'd in this fight in less than 5 rounds...I'll give myself some credit and say that I have been saying for several years that Jason has the potential to beat the very top guys if he fought his fight, if he could ever REALLY put it together like those of us who have known since he was in the junior olympics knew he had the potential to do...last night he was in with the most dangerous opponent of his career and very very few gave him a chance...actually I dont recall seeing anyone actually say they wee betting on him to win (not that you didn't, I just didn't read it)...NOW that he has shocked so many people you have people saying Caballero didnt train etc etc....COME ON, dont do that...people always look to explain away something they didnt believe could happen...not fair to J at all...give the kid credit, he went in there with a guy EVERYBODY said was gonna kill him and he won, PERIOD...anyone???

Is that ok for you??
Caballero sucks anyway lol na jp he underestimated Jason so there u go
I owe him a huge apology. He had not looked the same to me in his recent bouts and that KO loss to Hernandez was just brutal. I honestly thought he would never recover from that. Props to Litzau though, one of the nicest guys in the sport and a stand-up individual.

My jaw dropped when they had him at 13-1 underdog. He is not the same fighter he was 3 years ago. Did they not see what he did against Juarez? Kid can box now. He is smart, he thinks in there, and he is only getting better.
sorry but this fight was misleading
he still got hit plenty from a guy who took this fight for granted and
He got hit...because its a professional boxing match..he didnt get any more than a million other guys do..and greater fighters have gotten hit WAY MORE than he did
stop with the cliches
looking at his reaction when he got hit still tells me he is worse for wear and IMO in a dangerous position where he got a good win against a sloppy guy who YES took his opponent for granted
...and Caballero took it for granted? THATS what we're going to with now? Someone suggested thats the reason and now everybody will just run with it and repeat it is fact????? How about the guy got beat by a better fighter?
look I understand you know the guy, know his potential, always hoped he would put it together yadda yadda
you act like no one has ever seen Litzau before
he was a Roy Jones clone who used his physical talent (generally being faster than his opponent) to make a name for himself. Once he started escalating up the ladder and the talent became better then we started seeing what would happen. He got clobbered by Hernandez who was nothing more than a fun action fighter then by Guerrero.
and yes while he has a win over Juarez that wasn't to say he did anything of note in that fight. Both guys looked like crap in that before the cut stopped the fight.
and you're ignoring the one aspect I have brought up in this and in prior threads discussing him
he is slurring badly
here is an interview from 4 years ago

you mean to tell me this is the same guy?
He fought well. I thought his recent fight against Juarez showed he has come back a better fighter after his losses. Not entirely surprised that he managed a close one over Caballero who has been in a couple of struggles in the past.
Was on Litzau @ +925. Posted in the gambling thread in the lounge (before the fight).
I put a small bit on Litzau @ +925.
Also on Ward by decision @ -165
Need Marquez to win to bring in a parlay that I'm on.
Congrats to Litzau. He did his thing.
J did a great job, I loved the fact that Cab lost.. However he did look sloppy, I give all the credit to J for being the better fighter that night, he showed a lot of heart.. Cabs punches were getting very wild and J took advantage of that.. good fight to watch.
Come on man LOL...He KO'd Molitor is his home country...beat De Leon...these havent exactly proven to be the easiest assignments in history...
I agree. Caballero is no pushover. He also shutout Yordan (who I never thought was any good) but was once regarded as a hot prospect because he looked good against Robert Guerrero for 2 rounds before the fight was waved off.
It's annoying when fans immediately want to talk about what the losing fighter "didn't do" and not what the winner was able to accomplish.
Everyone wants to look at this fight right away and say that Caballero should get a rematch and all he has to do it prepare better to win.
I have to disagree and I am betting that Caballero goes elsewhere for his next opponent. Litzau will be a much better fighter from this experience and he will watch the fight and see that he had many more opportunities he could have capitalized on and maybe stopped Caballero.
If these two fight again Litzau will start the 1st round with the confidence that he ended the 10th round of the first fight with and that's bad news for Caballero.
A guy who has always depended on his height should have known better than to move up in weight and fight a man who is very tall for that weight.
He made a mistake and maybe he didn't prepare properly, whatever, he obviously has become stagnant as a fighter whereas Litzau is a guy who has humbled himself and just as obviously made some significant improvements.
There was already an obvious gap in guts and boxing skills in favor of Litzau, that gap is only going to grow with the passage of time.
Run this fight back in 6 months and Caballero will get knocked out.
Of course I don't believe Cabellero will want to make that fight.
I always thought that stringbean was being overrated. How the hell does he even come close to deserving JuanMaLo or the Cuban? What has he ever done? Beat midgets and Ponce De Leon - who I love, but doesn't deserve that title shot really either.

I was glad to see Litzau win Scully, he came into that fight very determined and who knows what was in Caba's mind going in but he started wilting more and more as the fight went on. It was visible in his facial and body language in that corner during the late rounds that he wanted this fight to be over. All of the credit in the world to Jason Litzau, 13-1 odds sounded absurdly onesided to me when I heard them say it.
Bredeis Prescott was a 16-1 dog to Amir Khan.
I thought Litzau's corner did a great job, they gave him great advice and he followed it. Usually when a corner tells their fighter that the other guy wants to quit they are full of it but this time the corner saw something and did a good job impressing the fact on the fighter.
Yeah, definite respect to Litzau....at 13-1 underdog would have loved to have bet on him. His history of showing a weak chin, stamina issues, piss poor decision making I was sure he would use his boxing skill to make a couple rounds interesting and then get taken out. Props to the judges for actually giving the non house fighter a deserved win.
The only apology I am making is to myself for not putting at least 10 bucks on the kid at 13-1...
My thoughts:
Seeing Litzau win that fight was one of the happiest moments for me as a boxing fan in awhile.
For starters I've always felt bad for Litzau, the kid had a tough life and he's a good fighter that has run into some tough breaks. He has always been a little bit of an underachiever who relied on his physical gifts to beat up inferior opponents.
Well in his last 2 fight we have seen Litzau go from an underchiever to an overachiever and that's a beautiful thing in this sport.
Litzau was expected to lose, people were quick to call him a bum when the fight was announced and he came in and pissed in the punch bowl.
His performance was all the more impressive when contrasted by the disgraceful showing of Celestino Caballero. Now that was an unprofessional effort that he put forth and he should be ashamed.
Say what you want about Litzau, he isn't world class talent wise, but he's got a world class heart and has persevered through some serious setbacks. I hope they put a rematch together and Litzau finishes what he started... when he watches the video he will see that he could have KO'd Caballero had he a little more faith in himself.

sorry but this fight was misleading
he still got hit plenty from a guy who took this fight for granted and
he still slurs something awful
you want to see him go against the best thats your call but I don't unless it secures his future because he is still a cause for concern
if he could ever REALLY put it together like those of us who have known since he was in the junior olympics knew he had the potential to do...
maybe but considering his prime was some time ago and a lot of the physical attributes that made him intriguing are gone.
he is still an open target
last night he was in with the most dangerous opponent of his career
I give that distinction to Ghost Guerrero
and very very few gave him a chance...actually I dont recall seeing anyone actually say they wee betting on him to win (not that you didn't, I just didn't read it)
with good reason
...NOW that he has shocked so many people you have people saying Caballero didnt train etc etc....COME ON, dont do that...people always look to explain away something they didnt believe could happen.
um maybe because that's exactly what happened
most who have actually seen Caballero fight know this was a crappy version of him and judging from the way 1. he couldn't make weight initially and 2. he ballooned 15lbs heavier than his weigh in weight are good indications he did not train very hard for this. I mean damn he gained the same amount of weight as did Margarito who was a full 20lbs bigger than him
..not fair to J at all...give the kid credit, he went in there with a guy EVERYBODY said was gonna kill him and he won, PERIOD...anyone???
I do but let's not jsut sweep everything under the table like it never happened or that it's still not a concern
J was DEFINITELY a huge underdog...also, though, I dont exactly with saying he has a weak chin..i definitely think his chin is better at 130 and 135 than it was at 126...kind of like Chris Byrd's was better at heavyweight than it was at 175...weight loss definitely can affect the ability to take punches...
