Every time I watch the Martinez ko I cringe when Emanual Steward sais "No it was a right, it was a right hand" after Bob Papa had it correct. Is Emanual Steward losing his game? after saying Margarito was "looking good" and getting better through 4 rounds and saying pwill's first round was very good and it boded well for the rest of the fight???. Are you kidding me???.
Steward and others announcers do this all the time. They go into fights with either bias or some preconceived notions about whats going to happen and regardless of what actuall happens stick to the original thought. The annoying thing about Williams and Martinez was the ridiculous street toughness line from Emanuel.
I like manny Steward, but i was very disapointed with him during this fight.
Paul Williams was beating Martinez with his superior boxing skills until he got caught with one lucky punch. The fight according to Steward.
I love when Steward comments on which fighter is throwing the "crispier" punches. I like the guy though, and I'm disappointed when he's not calling the fights.
my fantasy is that the entire broadcast is handled solely by larry merchant, technical commentary, color commentary, scoring, interviews
That would be way too awesome! Merchant p4p #1.
You guys are late on this. He's not losing it. He's always been like this. He's garbage at this ****. 1st off he went on & on about how Williams is starting off so fast in this fight which is unlike him. He said he ususally starts off slow like in the Cintron fight. Both he & Max said that caught Sergio off guard. Idiots, Williams always comes out throwing a million punches right off the bat. The only fight his whole career he didnt, was in the Cintron fight. The Cintron fight wasnt the norm, clowns.
Then both he & Max kept saying how Williams is fighting the perfect fight and they were saying he was landing clean shots when he wasnt even close to landing something or when Martinez was actually hitting him. Lederman gave Sergio the 1st round and that was clear for anyone to see but they were acting like Williams was winning.
If you watch every single Pac fight, he says early in every fight that Pac is going to be in trouble that night and he favors the other guy by the way the fight is starting. He said Cotto is just as fast as Pac. Really? Everything he says is stupid & wrong. If you listen to every fight, he picks the wrong guy and then by the end of the fight he is slobbing the winner and acting like he saw it coming all the way. Fake ass.
It should just be Roy in every fight
Steward also said Pavlik was fighting the "perfect fight" during the first four rounds of Pavlik/Martinez, which were all clearly Martinez rounds.
Pavlik was HBOs boy too. Maybe he just calls the fight for whoever Greenberg wants to win.
Williams was getting hit with the same overhand left over and over and over.... 30 seconds into the fight Stewart claimed that Williams had disrupted Martinez's fight plan :nonono:
I wasn't even 30. It was barely 15 seconds in the fight. And it was stupid eitherway. Martinez was the one neutralizing Williams by fighting on the inside, not the other way around.
I find Steward Annoying/Hilarious
He does this in every fight. There will be like 2:35 left in the 1st round and Steward will be like "Well Williams is doing everything right at the moment hes fighting a really good fight".
Dude relax its 25 seconds into the god damn fight.
I think some1 during the commentary has to kinda give the "other guy" some props. Theres too much money being bet on both sides that fans dont wanna hear a one sided commentary during the entire fight. Does that mean he was right? Absolutly not. He said Margarito wasnt being dominated by Pacquiao in the first few rounds. He was wrong, after the first round it was obvious that Pacquiao has the speed and gameplan to beat Margarito easy. Also alot of ppl lost big money on Pwill so he probably just wanted to make them feel alittle better.
Frank Maloney tells a story that when he was Lewis' promoter they all went to dinner after one of Lennoxs' fights, Lennox and his entourage were at one table and Frank, his wife, a couple of pals and Steward were at another. Steward proceeds to browse the menu, order **** loads of food at top $ and a couple of bottles of the finest champagne the house had to offer.
He then eats the food, polishes off most of the champagne, gets up and leaves and leaves poor Frank to foot the bill. LOL
3 seconds into a fight - Steward : ''_____ is looking really good''
I know......."as the fight goes on, I can see ______ making a difference"...like one minute into the action. I'm like man, you can't tell shizz!! :boxing:
Dude loves him some Paul Williams. When he said it was a right, I was like uh.....maybe the punch crushed the right side of Paul's face but it wasn't a right. He was likely going through a rough moment since his hero was going to sleep.
HBO announcers seem to be carrying an agenda in fights.
Martinez completely neutralized Pavlik for the first 4 rounds, then in the middle rounds were more competitive, but close and thet were acting as if Pavlik was winning the rounds clearly.
He won the 8th round, but you would've sworn he lost it from the announcing. Martinez had to cut, bloody, and come with waves of combinations to change the tide of the biased calling. That type of bias sh!t is terrible in close rounds.
The way the began calling the Martinez-Williams II fight, it was as if they already wanted to sway public perception to Williams if the fight turned out to be a close decision. As if they had to make it up to Haymon for not being biased toward Williams in the first fight.
Williams was getting hit with the same overhand left over and over and over.... 30 seconds into the fight Stewart claimed that Williams had disrupted Martinez's fight plan :nonono:
His "street toughness" as Steward would say got him through.
"Williams was doing everything right, and once punched changed the whole outcome" was the biggest load of **** uttered on BAD in some time.
Yeah, that's a bit of a stretch by Steward.
Williams was holding his own, but he was not doing "everything right" before that punch landed.
