its still a great sale. and its still big enough to keep manny from agreeing to random drug tests. floyd would have to do another 2 million+ will manny concede to random blood testing and thats not gonna happen. i hate to say this but the fights not gonna happen any time soon.
I'm actually surprised they did 1 million, those ridiculously boring 24/7 and the lackluster promotion led me to envision it being closer to 500,000 than to a million. They should be happy they did so well with a known and suspected cheater.
Dumbass,Gayweather never fought Margarito.
He didnt do 1.4 million PPV with him,he instead fought Zab Judah,Sharmba and Baldomir dude.
AGAIN OWNED :lol1:
Oh boy, here comes the PPV fanboys now.
60/40 for Floyd. Yeeeaah!
More roadblocks please!
Floyd's dream of avoiding Pac forever is becoming a reality. Celebration time is coming for his fanboys.
Yeeeeaahh!
Did I say ANYTHING about 60/40? Who is more of a fan boy? Me, who is stating facts and showing why FMJ has a valid reason to ask for more, or you ignoring the facts and acting like they don't doesn't for your GOD Pac? I am nobodies fanboy thank you! I didn't say he should ask for more, I said he has bargaining power, that's it!
Speaking of "avoiding", please give a valid reason why Pac sticking to his 24 days and not accepting the 14day offer for the fight in March isn't called "avoiding", yet when FM takes the offer off the table and Pac say's yes to the 14 days only after that, its called "avoiding, ducking and hiding"? Why one standard for Pac and another for FMJ?
If you can't say Pac or his team avoided the fight at that time, then I will certainly know who the "fanboy" is.

doesnt matter. who sells besides floyd thats american. so the american bit doesnt work
They were saying Manny is the bigger international star, FOTD, #1P4P, congressman, 8 division champion and can't outsell a loud mouth, coward, womanbeater gayweather black kid.
accordin to pac all these americans are not a draw thats why they won't fight them
How much do you think Marg helped on the PPV numbers?
And, do you think Baldomir at any point would have done close to this number with Pac?
I don't agree much with this "american boxer" thing. While Floyd is american, there are so many other american boxers as well. If it was patriotism, why aren't they being supported. The people of the highest PPV lists are mostly american, AND the best fighters of the era. They were also interesting, engaging and had the right marketing.
The issue I am having with all this non American talk. So what! Being american might help somewhat, but what about the fact that FMJ is primarily a defensive fighter. That SHOULD take away from his buys , the same way that Pac is an offensive moster adds to his. When FMJ fought Mosley, did anyone say "that is great for a primarily defensive fighter against a fighter that can barely draw flies"? Noooo! The same people that are impressed with Pac's 1.1mil are many of the same that were talking sh*t about FMJ's 1.4 mil.
There were a lot of threads about who is the larger draw, Floy or Pac. Many people said Pac. The reasoning isn't the issue, just the bottome line. Floyd is the bigger draw which gives him a lot of bargaining power at the negotiation table.

Seems like Manny fans are annoyed with the numbers. I thought you didn't care about the numbers?
Anyway, 1.1 Million are good numbers for something that wasnt expected to hit 1 Million.

Let's compare Floyd and Manny's PPV results shall we?
Throwing out both Oscar fights (because we all know Oscar made both of them the megastars they are today), let's look at Manny and Floyd's three biggest PPV fights:
Floyd sold 915K against Hatton, 1.1 million against Marquez, and 1.4 million against Mosley
Floyd's Total: 3.415 Million buys in his three biggest fights sans Oscar.
Manny sold 850K against Hatton, 1.25 million against Cotto, and 1.1 million against Margarito.
Manny's total: 3.2 million buys in his three biggest fights sans Oscar.
Both average well over 1 million buys when their fights are preceded by HBO's 24/7 series.
Now let's look at demographics which, as much as yesir would deny it, does have an empirical effect on PPV figures.
In the six fights which this comparison is centered around, Manny and Floyd fought a Brit, two Mexicans, a Puerto Rican, and an American. Of these nationalities, only the Brit (Hatton) failed to generate 1 million or more buys. The Mexicans both brought the same numbers, the Puerto Rican (albeit a very popular one) slightly more than the Mexicans, and the American bringing in the most.
Remember that HBO PPV figures are from US sales only, meaning they represent American interest in any given fight so naturally, a fight that has an American fighting in it SHOULD sell more than a fight with no Americans.
Floyd's and Manny's numbers are amazing. To consistently sell 1 million or more PPVs shows that both of them have crossed over to the mainstream quite well. The reason why Floyd's fights have sold slightly more is simply because he's American and Manny is not. That being said, the slight difference between the two may be accounted for if we factor in the fact that Shane Mosley is also an American, and one that has very good name recognition from his fights against Oscar.
In the end, demographics matter. The fact that Pacquiao, a Filipino, is selling almost just as much as Floyd, is indicative of his massive crossover appeal. When was the last time a non-American headlined a PPV that sold more than 1 million buys? Pacquiao has done this twice.
I don't agree much with this "american boxer" thing. While Floyd is american, there are so many other american boxers as well. If it was patriotism, why aren't they being supported. I thought this fight would do over 1 mil ppv's and it did. The only problem I have is that manny's ppv production doesn't match what they say on the tv. He simply isnt the most popular fighter. I understand the media, particularly boxing guys, like manny better and think he is a better representative for the sport. But he still is #2 behind floyd.
I'e noticed a lot of people saying well these are non americans. This fight had a 24/7 and Manny appearanced on Kimmel and a 60 minutes segment. Again good number but I'm thinking with that publicity they expected 200-300k more.
Finally, If Manny is guaranteed $22-25 mil to fight floyd and he doesn't accept it, how can anyone argue he really wants to fight floyd? That would be $7-10 mil more than his highest guarantee. That is very fair.
