Martinez vs Pirog?

Problem is Pirog probably brings the least money. I am not even sure if HBO is interested in Pirog (despite how good he might be)? Dangerous fight plus less money=no sense for Dibella to make this. I thought Dibella was hinting at that in the conference Well then who can he possibly fight? Is he just going to sit in the shelf and wait? Cotto is busy and will not get near him, Pac won't fight him, JCC Jr won't fight him, Marg will be looking for a rematch with Cotto in the summer, Mosley might be Pac next opponent. That leaves Floyd? But, he probably would want a tune-up first. Is Martinez just going to sit? That is not good for a 35yr old.

Martinez needs to get as many fights as he can in while he can, I wish he was a little younger. I don't see why fighting Pirog isn't a good start and can unify 160. What do you think about Martinez fighitng at 168 in the future Jro? It is a good start, IMO as well... At 168 in the future? It would be OK... But, at the same I don't know how that would work with all the top SMW linked up to Showtime and Martinez with HBO. Maybe when a top fighter contract ends with a network than that would be a great as well.

What other fight brings the money though? Floyd is a wild card? Are they going to just sit out and wait for Floyd? Cotto, Pac, Marg, JCC Jr, and Bute can not be made right now. I don't think Floyd will want to fight him anytime soon either. Especially without no tune up... I know they want the big money fight but they should be more realistic. i would really like that fight and style wise it would be awesome i wouldnt bet the farm on martinez either in that fight. flipside though, hes 36 and he wants to make money in his business and i cant blame him. we'll see what happens.

Dibella talked about this in the post-fight press conference. He said that Martinez wants around 3-4 more fights, so they have to make $ sense. Pirog doesn't bring any money. I hope it can be made though. I can understand him wanting money but its also unfortunate. What other fight brings the money though? Floyd is a wild card? Martinez wants to fight guys who can make him money and have recognition. He would rather fight Floyd, Cotto, Margacheato, Mosley, etc.

I like this match up. But boxing is not always all about competition. It also involves politics and most of all, economics. Yeah, at the age of 35, Martinez will be looking for big money fight. He is the man in the middleweight division right now. He is legitimate middleweight champion of the world. All the new guys will now start to call him out. But unfortunately, he came in the scene when nobody else is out there to give him the money in the middleweight division! All the big money fights are up there in the supermiddleweight division. And at Martinez' age, he could not afford to go down back to welterweight to fight Manny Pacquiao and still be effective. He's already a natural light-heavyweight, walking around 180lbs! Better put him in there with the Super Six! or fight Lucian Bute! That would be an exciting fight! That won't work cuz of the HBO and Showtime ties that the fighters have.

Now Martinez wants a big money fight, but I just don't think he will get it anytime soon. So in the mean time why not try to get his WBO belt back and fight Pirog for a unification match? Pirog had a great coming out party in the U.S by KO'ing Jacobs. He wants to get back to HBO, HBO I guess is waiting to match him with the right opponent for him. That should be Martinez. Pirog is the WBO titlist and give him a chance to unify. And, it will be a very tough first defense for him. And, Pirog would not hesitate to fight Martinez and has no problem coming to the U.S unlike Sturm. I think this is the best most realistic match-up that could be made for both fighters and HBO. too early for Pirog. From Jacobs to Martinez.. come on. commkon sense, Pirog needs more fights, in order to fight this kind of opposition. He is already a title holder and is already 30 years old.
