Looking back at the Hatton Mayweather fight, Hatton did a great job imposing his bulldog style on mayweather. Thats who Hatton is, his gameplan is to hit and hold, and ruff guys up. Against Pacman, he kinda tried to box, and he dont know how to box when he's been a bulldog his whole career. cant teach an old dog new tricks. The hatton that fought mayweather was 100% confident in ability, the one that fought pacquiao was iffy, especially after the first knockdown.
Ricky got what he deserved. Just like Naz. He kicked the guy who brought him up from nothing out of his corner for some big-name trainer who didn't give a **** about him. Mayweather Sr almost didn't make to the ****ing stadium in time for the fight.
People said Calzaghes dad in his corner would be his downfall, yet Joe was loyal to his father and retired undefeated after a decade as world champion. Imagine what Manny Stewart would have done to Joe; he'd have ruined him.
As George Foreman said years ago; when it comes to guys that have an unusual style youre tempted to make them correct all the unorthodoxed things they do, but if you do that, you will lose the complete fighter.
Really Mayweather Sr. needed more time than just one fight to get him ready for Pacquiao. It may have never worked out but given the time that they spent together it was impossible for them to build up the relationship needed.
I think Floyd Sr. didn't do a great a job but the question remain even if he did a great job was it possible to really make a big difference given how much they worked together (or lack of).
There was a moment early on when Ricky managed to shove Manny to the ropes but Manny ducked and got out of there within a fraction of a second. At that moment the fight was lost. It instantly made it clear that Ricky would need to use a totally different style and he just didn't have it.
Cotto and Margarito are fighters who tried to ''rough'' Pacquiao up, Hatton tried roughing Pacquiao up ( which went against Mayweather's teachings) I really don't see how you can attribute blame to Mayweather sr. Even if Hatton perfected his crude style he'd still get battered ( see Margarito and Cotto).
Hatton still woulda lost, but he shoulda tried to make pacquiao fight inside a bit more. Sr. tried to turn him into a completely different fighter, and against a top level fighter like pacquiao, thats not smart.

I just think that Hatton was set in his ways and was never gonna change up that much. He was doing fine until he got dropped the first time, then he didnt know if he should box, or hold and hit. he gameplans confused em i think. Only thing Sr. shoulda told him was to move his head more when coming in. he cant outbox nobody.

I agree at that time it was ridiculous to bring in a defensive minded trainer. In the long run, yeah he would have been effective in areas, but having Mayweather Sr in your corner for such a short peroid of time before such a tough fight was not a good idea, hes not going to switch up his style and become a different fighter in that period of time, especially whe hes used to just being a face first brawling bulldog for his whole career, he would have been better with Graham still in his corner. The same outcome would have happened though.
And to top it all up, Sr ate all his boast/pre-fight hype and that would have been too much to swallow that's why he declared roidy was on peds.

no doubt, but hatton couldn't execute the gameplan effectively anyway. his best bet was to ruff up pacquiao like he woulda did with his old camp. No way he can match pacquio's speed on the outside.
PAC would kill hatton no matter what
Plus he did try to rough him up and failed miserably
Snr was actually beneficial to Hatton in the long-term, He wanted to calm Hatton down and make him think, Problem is Hatton isnt a thinker in the ring, He thought he can go in there and bumrush Pac because he's "Bigger than Pac"...........Wrong move..

i agree and i've said this before too. a good trainer doesn't change a fighters forte, he molds it more to his benefit.
But Mayweather Sr. said Hatton didn't follow the gameplan so it was his own fault that he lost the fight.
