Where do i start?
Dissapointed.But not all completely.
Guillermo Rigondeaux
First off,bad match up but good experience. This was a fight of two counter punchers.
Does Guillermo rigondeaux want to make a statement for himself or does he still think he's in the amatuers? I wasnt impressed by his skills other then good speed and some decent counters. What i did noticed is in the mid rounds he did get tagged good by cordoba then started to retreat and not side shuffle like he was doing all night. What happens when he faces a fighter who goes for the ko? A guy who's agrresive and can cut the ring to get him? Stick, stick and move isnt going to do much for him.Matter of fact,i think he lost points during the fight for doing the hobbling shuffle. My take as of now,he's chasing Wilfredo vazquez Jr for a title shot. But i beleive vazquez being the aggresor, will chase him and create it into a brawl, thus catching him.My thoughts could change with better efforts from rigo, his body and facial language dont really seem appealing to make it a brawl fight.World championship status? Not any time soon.
Ricardo Cordoba
A B- counter.Wasnt throwing anything meaningful, didnt use his height to his advantage, and stalled almost on all of his punches.Yet this is the guy who beat caballero? The guy who cleared a 117-111 UD on scorecareds and knocked him down in the 10th round. This is the guy that beat the "fearful" peluche? Juanma, your starting to disrespect me.I beleive celestino is hype. But thats just my opinion.Aging to 34, i wouldnt be suprised if juanma gets discredited for beating an "old" caba (i can hear those on here already). But in terms the fight should happen sooner then later.
Mike Jones
First off,i had it a draw. The final round was the most critical to mike jones and he pulled through.Had he lost that round,he would of lost.Obiouvsly the judges had it a different way.I thought we were going to have problems with Gale vanHoy's card but that wasnt the case.
Mike jones you dissapointed me but never failed.Ive seen this local guy develop from the friday night solo boxeo fights. He was looking sharp in the begining but after the party of punches he threw it was a disaster.honestly i didnt think he was going to last all 12 rounds. It looked almost impossible witht he way he was gassed out. Now,styles make fights. This was a matchup of 2 brawlers.Grueling energy consuming and chin testing.I thought he would be ready for the likes of Andre berto, but not anymore. Then again andre berto isnt the rugged pressurer-like walkdown boxer, which in this case it would give mike jones a lil bit of time to recover in between the rounds.Jones has the reach and boxed well the final rounds. He's yet not ready for a title shot but if he wants a step closer to Berto why not go the Luis collazo route?
Just my thoughts.....
Just really disappointed in Rigo. He went from aggressor to a potshotter with just one KD. Speaks much of his heart or maybe a force of habit in his amateur days. And it was just his 7th pro fight. IMO, he may lose to some lower tier but gutsy fighters now. We'll just see how he develops.
Rigoneaux was the case of a fighter who wasn't ready to fight for a title but still pulled it out. Reminds me of when Andre Dirrell fought Carl Froch. He needs a couple defenses to come into his own. But yeah, I wanted to stab my eyes in his fight.
Jones came out and obviously wanted to make a statement. The statement he made was that A) he's still relatively inexperienced in long fights and B) he needs to move up to 154. He must be really killing himself to make weight.
@ jreckoning and Andy, this is what I'm saying. The guy is world class and you guys made extremely valid points I just believe for example: rigondeaux got hurt, of course and did he start moving away? Of course, but the way he moved away was an obvious amateur way of fighting. Everythig he expressed in the fight was amateur. Where as some considered it running I completely saw it differently, not as in he was scared but as in he much rather secure a win than put in any more work. Similar to vasyl lomachenko at times. All top amateurs do that, rack up points, do the best they can and then coast if things don't Go their way. I believe it's his mentality rather than his skills that need to be changed. In all his fights he expresses this. Why is he trying to be perfect all the time? PInfully obvious he's still stuck in that scoring system state of mind he's not fighting but rather scoring. Sure you guys have valid points, this is just the way I see it.
I didnt start the rigondeaux fight, It was round 6 when I saw it already, as I was going to work at that time.
Was not really disappointed but he didnt look good either. I thought he be good as they say, but the kid still young and Im sure he'll improve better.
Rigo IS that good, he needs a world class trainer to break his amateur habits, now if that's possible, then I guarantee everyone would automatically hop on the Rigo bandwagon. His problem is his mentality not his skills. Does anyone else see this besides me? Lmfao @ him not being skilled or that good, when it's painfully obvious that from his first pro bout to now, it's not his skills but rather his mentality. Now can that be changed is the question. Not if he's skilled or not. I can't believe what I'm reading. But to each their own right? Everyone is entitled to their opinion and this is mine which won't be changed.
I get what you mean and you made some good observations.it could be from a mind set point.the guy has excellent boxing skills and packs a punch.i wish he would unravel completly right now.hes getting older and wants the big fights.but the way he fought saturday was more of a play it safe type of fight.still coming unimpressively to a split decision.things like hobbling away during rounds can cost him.but yes from the mindset view he should improve

Top Rank just signed Steve Molitor. I would assume they will make Rigondeaux vs Molitor at somepoint in 2011. That would end this hype train, the guy isnt that good.,
To me, Mike Jones is like Daniel Jacobs, they're hyping someone with talent but as soon as he steps up in competition he's done. He's lucky Soto-Karass is really slow.
Rigondeaux is a good fighter but he has an awkward style, so he only look spectacular against lesser opponents, he might win but won't impress. Also Cordoba is not a walk in the park.
I think you forget to talk about Rios, who looked good but obviously it was a mismatch. I think he would get crushed by Ortiz if they end up fighting, I know everyone will compare this to the Maidana fight, but I'm sure that Ortiz learned something from that.
I agree with this, fast hands and fast feet but sloppy and look uncomfortable under pressure, too much awkward movement
rigondeaux needs to step on the gas a bit more if you ask me and do more work instead of trying to do everything all clean a perfect, flashy of sorts.
he has the goods but i think that having so many amateur fights he past the point of excitement and just seems to me like he's just going through the motions.......... i don't know, but it's what i'm reading from his intensity....
as for jones, he needs work and they should be bringing him up a bit more carefully. he has the goods, but he needs the real world experience every time he fights now, just selectively.
he has the goods and he has the ability, don't know about the mindset, focus, and real stamina, mental and physical. he can improve and be good.

I still got some hopes for mike jones.I think the only reason why he lasted all 12 was because he was on a world stage.Had this been in the solo boxeo days he woulda probly gotten knock out
Rios wasnt mentioned due to the fact he was a last late repleacment on the undercard and they wanted to make him look spectacular for future bouts

The cuban was boring as fck.He fcked up the whole event.Mike jones
showed his inexperience. His defence is pretty bad also, karass is slow as
fck and still tagged him.
