Just wondering what people's take is on this. Not interested in turning this into another pointless PED, Pacquiao, Flomo/Pactard b.s. thread- I'm seriously curious.
Floyd took some time off during his first retirement, came back for a catchweight fight with Marquez and came in 3 lbs heavy. A lot of people think it was intentional to have an edge, but Floyd was having some issues with the IRS at that point so giving away almost a million dollars in weight penalty was not a smart business decision. Also, whatever you think about Floyd, when it comes to training and boxing he's a dedicated professional so I doubt he just blew off the CW, I think he just plain couldn't get that low. Plus he looked bigger than usual in the ring (not just because of the smaller Marquez next to him) and refused to be weighed on fight night.
Then he wanted the fight with Manny at 154 instead of the logical 147 limit. I guess having 10 oz gloves was the main motive, but I can't help but think that one of the reasons he doesn't want to fight more than once a year is because making 147 these days is taking a huge toll on his body, which is natural since as you age it becomes increasingly harder to make weight. Freddie Roach even mentioned that he wanted the Margarito fight at 147 but Tony can't make that anymore.
I think the same is happening with Floyd, but he's reluctant to go to 154 because his speed/reflexes might be affected.

Floyd wanted the fight at 147 but manny wanted the fight at 135 for the WW title...Marquez looked small compared to Floyd lol. Just a min ago they said he look bloated compared to floyd....which one is it? Its okay for Manny to face Margarito who weighs 150 coming into the ring weighing 160....But they be damned if floyd comes into the ring weighing 150 against a guy weighing 144?????? I DONT GET IT?
I don't think he has a hard time making weight just harder than he is used to. I'm guessing he got bigger while he was off and now has to cut more which is something I don't think he has ever been fond of doing.
What's funny is how he's trying to invent Floyd struggling to make 147.
No other thoughts?
Oh, I get it! You're trying to bait people into the idea that Floyd takes these layoffs to roid up and put on muscle. They couldn't even test him using OSDT guidelines because "retired" athletes aren't subject to testing. Sounds plausible. His security guys certainly know a thing or two about gear.

Right, what I'm wondering is why not fight twice/year and double that revenue? Not like there's a shortage of big money fights for him. Even if he doesn't fight Pac there's still Cotto, Berto, Williams, Martinez, Khan, Alexander, Bradley. He could pick and choose any of those names, set all the parameters, etc.
And he may not be in his prime, but it's still enough to beat or at least be ultra competitive with virtually anyone in the neighborhood of WW.
Ideally, we would love that instead of the part-time BS. But let's face, when you reach that level and have been doing it since you were three years old, you lose motivation.

Hes in his 30s. Hes fully grown into his frame. Once you hit 30, it becomes much harder to shrink down like that without compromising yourself in some way.
i honestly don't think floyd would have trouble making 147 but if i was him, i would force pac to fight at 154 lbs in nevada so manny couldn't use 8 oz. gloves.
lol, If you haven't learned by now,
Floyd isn't forcing Pac to do anything.
To be honest with you Floyd could've easily made 144 against JMM if he actually has a diet.
Floyd eats a lot of junk food and a lot of fat food. This dude eats out every day and loves to eat at McDonalds. He should have no problem making 147 if he eats right in training camp.
You just answered your own question. Except, Floyd is definitely not in his prime.

Same thing happened to Oscar, he was making at least 20 mili a fight and was a part time fighter, fighting once a year. Didn't mean he was having trouble making 154.
Oscar runs a very successful promotional company and was doing so in the middle of the last decade when his inactivity started. Floyd does nothing beyond eating cheeseburgers while flashing fake bills with 50 Cent and getting into legal trouble. Doesn't seem like he has much to keep him busy or any reason not to maximize his profit, talent, and legacy.

Mayweather prefers 8 oz gloves and does not like 10 oz gloves. Bigger gloves would not be an advantage for him because he doesn't like than anymore than Pacquiao does. They both rely on speed.
Because, his heart is not into boxing and doesn't have the hunger he once had.
Floyd has never been the most active guy.... And, now that he can make at least 20mil a fight so he can afford fighting once a year.

Leonard as well.
So what's the cause of his inactivity in your opinion? Just doesn't make any sense from a financial or legacy-forming standpoint... to fight once in a blue moon in your prime when you're basically guaranteed to rake in at least $20 million/900K-1mil buys per fight?

When did he ask to fight Pac at 154?? But I don't think he has a problem getting down to 147 and no he didn't weight no 160 vs marquez maybe between 150-155 but not no 160 idk why people say that
That's something Roach said. Right before he said we'll agree to any kind of testing.
But anyway, I could see Floyd struggling to make 147 now. Perhaps. But it definitely hasn't been an issue before.

nahh in the mosely fight u can see he was in the best shape hes been in for years. he look amazing to be quite honest. and ive never heard of floyd having toruble making weight at 147 so i doubt it.
