Good points TS, but it's also hard to tell how much Floyd has change, since his recent fights are really not that much of a threat to him. Now am I saying that his recent opponents were easy? Not at all, maybe Floyd does have that affect on making his opponents look average, and maybe he's just THAT good. I think since he became successful, he decided to take it easier, maybe pick a couple fights that he believes he can easily win, but any successful boxer will do that. Why take huge risks if you don't have to? Same can be said about Pac. People brings out their top game when they're threatened, and the Mosley fight showed you that Floyd still has that offensive skill. Floyd may have lost a little step, but that comes with age. But I do feel he can still fight like the old Floyd if he needs to, and the fighter that can bring it out of him is Pac. But nobody can argue the fact that whenever you fight Pac, you will always leave the ring badly hurt (DeLahoya, Cotto, Marg, Hatton). You can't deny that win or lose, Floyd's pretty face can be permanently damage. Floyd always argued about leaving the ring unscathed with no permanent damage, and he's right. So why go through that when there's a safer, easier way to make money? So I won't be surprised if his main concern with fighting Pac is the potential permanent damage that Pac will give him, and not his undefeated record.

Thanx for the reply dude, unlike some other douchebags here that just want to **** around. U think he's still got the legs? Yes, but not as much as before. Watch the Baldo fight...his movement is excellent there. Even the ODLH fight he looked sharp without ever getting into 3rd or 4th gear. Watch JMM fight.....he used his legs very well there. In the Mosley fight his legs looked shaky. It could be from getting hit, but i think his plan was to stand his ground and counter with hard shots, hence he didn't use his legs as much. It's hard to say, but Ishe Smith (who he sparred with to prep for Shane) said his legs are very much there.

I would argue his shots will be more effective against Pac than either Cotto or Margariot, because he will time Pac coming in, which will increse the force of the punches. This really is a good post. I agree with point one the most. Some points i don't agree with at all. Floyd has been in decline since Baldomir and it's obvious. If he had the same legs and reflexes he had against Corrales, Gatti or even Baldomir i would pick him in a pinch to defeat Pacquaio in a boring fight. It's the timing of the punches and the accuracy that can hurt Pac. He needs the footspeed because he doesn't throw as much volume or combos as JMM does. Remeber Floyd can fight moving backwards. Floyd's power isn't really good, but he's one of the most accurate boxers I've ever seen. minus 'the' in the title lol, here we go! 1. Age: Floyd is not the same fighter anymore he was back at 130, he was fleet-footed, constantly used movement, and actually took RISKS. If you can't see the differences you're blind. Compare the fight between Corrales and his last two bouts against Mosley and Marquez. Floyd fights FLAT-FOOTED nowadays. I think the old Floyd could've beaten Manny, but not the current one. Manny has not slowed down, in fact he's only gotten better. The movement, the power now in BOTH hands. As a side note, I don't see any significance advantage from either men in handspeed. 2. Styles make fights: Floyd doesn't have a good reputation against south-paws. Fair enough, the masterful defensive fighter would adjust right? Well there's another issue, Manny is a volume puncher. That means he throws an INSANE amount of punches throughout the entire fight. He does not stop. How does Floyd intend on tackling this? Especially in his last fights all he does is throw potshots, unless he's totally dominating, like against Mosley, where he might throw a 3 punch combo. But that's very rare. Mayweather mostly boxes himself to decisions, if Manny doubles or even triples his output, he's already in trouble with winning a decision. 5. The Mayweather defense fallacy: Shoulder-rolling and pot-shotting against a volume puncher with a granite chin, that throws from awkward angles is not going to work. Flat-footed Floyd will have to endure a barrage of punches throughout the fight, which is gonna take it's toll at one point, and prevent him from winning an easy decision. The risk for taking this fight is too high, Floyd wants to protect his 0 and this Pinoy nutter provides too great of a threat to that. In Boxing defense is not often given the credit it deserves and Floyd's defense is one of the best that I have ever seen. 1. Mayweather's defense Key to Mayweather's defense is the fact that he is always moving as well as the rhythm,speed and smoothness of his movements, this is what makes this defense effective. All the while his opponent is punching. Floyd is rolling, slipping, pivoting at the waist, feinting, bobbing and weaving, constantly displaying various ‘modes’ of movement . The rhythm of the rolling is very interesting because most opponents alternate their punches in a very predictable way, only occasionally doubling up with the same hand in the middle of flurries. When his body is turned to his right Floyd's left shoulder usually rolls up high to deflect punches and sometimes additionally he uses his left arm to deflect punches, it depends on the angle of the punch. Shots to this left side of his body are usually deflected upward and/or in front of him. When Mayweather's body is turned to the left his right hand is held up high with his elbow tucked in, so these shots get blocked also, a few well placed body shots can get in but Floyd is already rolling after the first punch connects. On the rare occasion where a fighter does double up with the same hand Floyd usually catches this and improvises by adjusting his rhythm with a series of 'changes of direction' in his rolling. The thing to notice is the timing, all fighters have a rhythm to their movements which can be timed by an experienced opponent after several rounds of boxing. 2.Two different overall rhythmic forms: the rhythm of offensive motion the rhythm of defensive motion. There are usually two different overall rhythmic forms, what I call the set-up rhythm (preparing to punch or waiting to counterpunch, depending on the style of the boxer) the rhythm of offensive motion and the rhythm of defensive motion. However Floyd, like many great boxers varies these rhythms in subtle ways that are difficult for opponents to time, and he can seamlessly flow from one rhythmic form to the next without any break in the forms. Usually the opponent is not even aware that the transition has occurred until it is too late. 3.The name of the game is not aggressiveness, it is 'effective aggressiveness'. Most of Floyd's Opponents punches get deflected and do not do much damage. Also use up a lot of energy in the process. It is tiring and frustrating to punch at a target that constantly making you miss. What constantly surprises me is the ignorance of the HBO commentators Jim Lampley,and Larry Merchant They kept talking about that Floyd should stay off the ropes. Now these HBO cats have seen so many fights they should know certain techniques by now. 4.Floyd Rest on The Ropes: First of all Floyd get's hit with very few punches when he is on the ropes. Many times during Floyd's fights Floyd would rest while letting His Opponents flail away at him, this is a calculated ploy that only works because of the nature of Floyd's defensive skills. Sometimes Floyd lays on the ropes, sometimes he stands in the middle of the ring right in front of his opponent, in neither case opponents rarely actually connects with thier punches in significant numbers. Floyd's sense of the flow of a fight is fantastic. 5.Staying 'in the pocket', When Floyd stands 'in the pocket', meaning that Mayweather was so close to His Opponent that they can not get the proper leverage on their punches. There is an optimum distance that most fighters need to execute effectively. 6.The Science of Floyd's Offense Offensively Floyd, 'place' his shots, he is not just wasting energy throwing punches. Even when he is in these defensive stances he is looking for well placed shots in the middle of the other boxer's flurries Notice that his eyes are wide open and they are seeing everything that is happening. With many other top fighters this is not the case. It is a natural reflex to close your eyes when an object is coming at your face and great boxers train to counter this tendency.
