That's right,he proved it again last night.Worst of all is that this fragile chin of his is getting exposed against mediocre opposition. He was knocked down very early in his career by a complete bum in Charles Jones;was out on his feet and in la-la land against journeyman just last year;got dropped heavy against a hurt fighter in Concepcion very early in their fight; And now a much older, much smaller shopworn fighter rocked him last night.
This is Puerto Rico's greatest hope? This is the pride of Puerto Rico? His ugly deformed face, with his creepy cackling laugh?
No worries, though.Congratulations to all Puerto Rico boxing fans.Hey,you never know, maybe one day you guys can pick up a significant win over a still fresh Mexican fighter.
I don't get what Lopez did that was so "dishonorable". He went in there and won. Sure Marquez isn't in his prime and shouldn't translate into his biggest win, but it's definitely a great win. And his chin did hold up pretty well.
I certainly don't see how someone who is "neutral" about the rivalry would make this thread.
What has that to do with what we were talking about (ie. the comparative worths of Segura and Lopez' respective last victories)?
Way to completely change the subject. Segura > Calderón is the much better win and the more comprehensive one besides, regardless of whether or not one thinks Marquez quit.
Marquez per the showtime boosters is HOF caliber, he is a bigger name than Segura. Calderon and Marquez are same age, bigger size discrepancy between Calderon and Segura than Marquez and Lopez. Calderon was slowing down and Marquez was coming off a win. The whole thing is clutching on straws to discredit one win and make the other bigger. Both are important wins.
Juanma is a farce and I dont see anything special from him, I can only say that he has decent power and thats it. After that, the guy can get it easy, is flat footed and has a crystal chin.
All I can say the guy is pure hype and nothing more. Israel Vazquez or Rafa Marquez not too far ago would have wiped the ring with him in one round.
...Keep trying media!!!
1)because Weeks gave him almost a full minute of recovery time
2)most of his k.o's coming 8 pounds lighter at bantam
1) Maybe Weeks should have ignored the point deduction, right? I'm sure noone would have complained....
2) Maybe, just maybe Rafa brought a little bit of power with him as he moved up in weight - I guess that can happen
I wonder how can Princessmanatroll be banned only in history section, and get banned 6 times and keep coming back to troll about?
Rick Reeno my former college classmate needs to get establish permanent bans.
Here are facts:
1)Lopez has NEVER BEEN knocked out.
2)Fighting an older experienced fighter also can work against you, remember Bhop vs Pavlik? An older fighter took the younger guy to school. Many mexicans thought Lopez would get knocked out, and look what happened. You can't do backflips over Segura beating a 35 year old Calderon who is only 5 feet tall than make excuses for Marquez who is almost the same height and reach of Lopez.
3)Lopez beat guys like Penalosa, who was NEVER knocked out, he traded punch with punch, and his chin held up unlike Amir Khan. He beat Deleon who was a prime contender.
4) I think Princesstroll is from scotland or wales, how many champs have they had compared to Puerto Rico an island of 4 million people. PR per capita has had more champs than any country in the world and here is how they stand up to the mighty 110 million country of Mexico in championship fights?
50 to 38, WTF?
That is simply too much common sense in this post, they are going to skip it and pretend that they didn't read it or ignore it
Calderón, while naturally smaller than Giovanni, was a much fresher 35 than Marquez, wasn't shopworn from the kind of bruising encounters that have defined Marquez' career, was still at something approaching his best form and was heavily tipped to box rings around Segura, only to be unequivocally, emphatically owned instead.
Marquez was a very shopworn and war-torn 35, markedly past his best form and was tipped to be sensationally KO'd, on top of being the naturally smaller man (height and length aside, Lopez is clearly stronger and more natural at the weight), but gave Lopez a competetive, close fight until he was pulled out on a hairline fracture to his shoulder-blade.
Different set of circumstances. Segura's scalp of Calderón, and the manner of it, is much more creditable, IMO.
Marquez quit, simple as that. If Hearns can fight 8 rounds in a 15 round fight with a broken hand and win, than Marquez could have fought 4 more rounds, but he didn since he knew he was going to get KTFO. Harry Greb and Sam Langord won fights with a blind eye, Monzon knock guys out with tissue & tendon damage to being shot in a leg, where was the great aztec warrior spirit?
You do,clearly.
I have no respect or tolerance for these type of matchups. It's garbage like this that hurt the sports credibility.People will treat this win as if it means something,as if Marquez was somehow a credible challenger in the first place.
Marquez isn't just past his prime,he's washed up.Not only is he washed up as a fighter, but he's also a part-time fighter.Top Rank picked up an old part-timer for a cheap win and a name on the younger fighters resume.
Yet you mention Segura vs a 35 year old calderon a historic win. You are a tool

That's right,because a 35 year old Calderon is comperable to a 35 year old Rafael Marquez........Not!!!!

Unlike you, lad,I don't base my support of certain fighters on nationality.

agree to that? Concepcion knocks him out, Donaire will annihilate homo Lopez!
nine title fights with eight kos, yes he walks in sometimes taking punches but if he had a glass jaw I doubt he would still be champion. And guys like Marquez and Ponce Deleon and dangerous fighters

Do you watch boxing because of how guys look? What the hell does Juanma's looks have to do with boxing?
I swear, too many trolls on these boards...actually, I take that back. To care enough about trolls on boards means that I'm spending too much time on these boards. I'm out for the night.

Great post, TS just got owned lol.
Hopkins at 39 was still beating up guys, SSM at 37 destroyed Marg. Mexicans are always talking about how macho they are, but it seems to me that they are crying like biatches over Marquez losing this fight. Marquez caught Juanma in the fourth and could not finish the job. I have seen fighters get rocked and saved by the bell, and on the next round they get knocked out bc the othe fighter finished the job. Marquez quit on his stool, he claimed his shoulder was hurt, sh&t happens, Gatti faught with a broken hand. Marquez quit, he did not have an answer for Juanma and he decided he had enough. Now get over it and top crying so much.:boxing:
Hearns beat Benitez with an injured hand, and broke his hand against Hagler and never cried like a ***** after he loss. Monzon got shot with a high caliber weapon on his leg, had serious tendon and tissue damage on his leg and still knock GUYS the F Out. Harry Greb knock guys out with a blind eye and so did Sam Langford. Gee, what is this talk about Aztec Warriors and than all these excuses?

Man this was a great test for Juanma, we all know Rafa is past his prime but still a good challenge, that Rafa would've knocked out someone like Caballero last night. Of course Juanma isn't iron chinned but c'mon look at Rafa's KO %.
