Did anybody else notice that referee Weeks conveniently stopped the action to deduct a point from Lopez at a moment in which Juanma was about to get KTFO??!! Maybe I'm missing a thread but I thought for sure somebody would post about this.
Lopez got a lucky breather.
anyone that think that "saved" juanma must live on queer street. he was still buzzed and was, maybe, more open than usual for follow up attacks but too many of these board-boxers confuse being buzzed, knocked down and knocked out.
juanma was caught with a perfect counter left hook, dipped and continued to push the fight. if that's about to get "KTFO" to you then you don't know what you're talking about and would be wise to watch the fight again and rephrase your wording.
i, myself, thought tony weeks was warning juanma TOO much. not only was rafa hitting constantly off the break but he was also the one dipping his head. juanma was simply pinning it under his forearms when it was already down there. this is actually a common boxing tactic that prevents your opponent from bringing that head up and catching you with the top of his head and any follow-up punches.
i don't even remember tony weeks telling rafa to keep his head up, which would have prevented juanma legally pinning it. i didn't approve of those couple of cases where juanma held and hit but he fought a good fight and was denied the glory of completely breaking rafa by the sudden injury.
Marquez hitting Lopez on the break happened a couple times. Marquez getting his head held down and punched happened on a regular basis. And Weeks fucked the fight up by halting the action at the time that Lopez was on queer street. I agree with this thread.
juanma has been doing that **** forever though he just never gets called for it, he pushes the head down and punches
Its his habit, Maybe he's too tall, maybe thats the reason.
JuanMama was holding Rafa's head down all night and he should have have 5 points deducted, dude is a cheater for real. It did come at a time convenient for the cash cow, though.
Well there is another side to this equation that you forgot to mention!!Everytime Weeks called for them to break,Marquez always threw,he wasn't warned for throwing after the break even once,or did you not clearly see that??
LOL...i saw that everytime they break..boom to the abdominal section..Must have hurt...Juanma just keeping his temper down...
Pay attention, though... I said there is A CHANCE that it could have influenced the outcome of the fight. Too many people are speculating that somehow I'm claiming that there was a big conspiracy to give Puerto Rico the victory over Mexico centered around a plot to have Tony Weeks save Lopez.
You guys blow things way out of proportion!!
What I'm saying is that this chance you speak of is non-existent!!I think he fought as best he could,he landed his blows but Weeks wasn't saving Lopez from anything!!
I kinda figured this is what you were trying to get at!!But Marquez wasn't going to stop Juanma at anytime!!Hit him with a couple good shots,in a great fight but the truth is that if anyone was going to get stopped it was Marquez, please stop looking for excuse, the younger fresher fighter was going to win regardless of how anyone wants to turn this!!

Watch Round 4 Pacquiao vs Hussein, that is a round that one can argue the Ref saved a fighter. I didn't see anything close to that yesterday. Barrera-Morales wobbled each other a 100 times in 36 rounds, but neither fighter knocked the other guy out. Oscar Larios had Pac very hurt early on, but with 2 minutes left Pac survived the round.
I tend to give fighters the benefit of the doubt unless they are wobbling around, cant throw punches, and are getting hit indiscriminately. I didnt see any signs of those three things, and seriously doubt that Lopez was close to being stopped.
Your point is well taken that the damage had occurred approximately 30 seconds before Weeks halted the action, and maybe Lopez had recovered enough to make it out of the round without interruption, but I am not 100% sure of this.
True statement that Juanma did not catch a break from the referee all night. What we disagree on is whether or not the break prevented Lopez from being finished by Rafa. I definitely think there is a good chance that Marquez would have KO'd Juanma in that (4th I think??) round had this not occurred.

Please define "ILLUSSIONS." Listen smart@**, I have clearly stated on several occasions that Juanma was impressive in his victory and I have no bias. Juanma is the future, Rafa is the past. Lopez was pounding his gloves together alright but he was really hurt.
P.S.- I'm not having "illusions."

Stop taking the drugs you are taking as you are having ILLUSSIONS. LOPEZ NEVER WOBBLED OR WENT DOWN. IN FACT, THE ONE PUNCH THAT BRIEFLY STAGGERED HIM WAS ABOUT 40 SECONDS BEFORE THE DEDUCTION.
I saw a replay this morning, Lopez pounced his gloves and kept fighting. Marquez got MURDERED plain and simple, In fact he kept landing that same overhand right and Lopez ate the punches, he couldnt hurt Lopez who was this "glass chin" guy.
Lopez is now 11-0 against Mexicans, a difficult pill for some to swallow but that's life.

Lopez never STOPPED throwing punches. He kept fighting and the point deduction was like 30-40 seconds after the punch.
This not Pacquiao-Hussein Round 4 where Pac WENT DOWN, and a Pinoy referee gave a long count than refuse to seperate the fighters, than took a point away from Hussein to give Pac time to recover. That was much more an example of a guy in queer street, Lopez was not in queer street, but he did have Marquez on queer street several times during the fight

No excuses though. Juanma fought a great fight, showed chin and heart, and I'm not disappointed to see him win even though I had money on Rafa! LOL
rafa marquez was only good for 3-4 rounds. after that, his punches went soft.
thats about what i expected too.... he'd fight with pride after that but it was inevitable
i think juanma learned a lot from this fight.... good SHOWTIME card!
I understand that, but as a whole fight,Juanma didn't catch a break from the ref,Marquez did!!A point was deducted from Juanma,in a round he lost, that's 10-8,there is no way that helped him IMO!!

I clearly saw the entirety of the fight. Nowhere in my post did I claim that Rafa was guilty of no wrongdoing. I was merely commenting on one aspect of this fight. :)

that is true..
but also, not only did Marquez throw when Weeks were breaking them up,
but also, everytime they clinched it was Juanma that got the warning. Marquez didnt act like an angel himself.
Again, I never claimed Marquez to be an "angel." Sure there are two sides to every story, but halting the action at a specific time when one fighter is obviously hurt and hanging on is a MAJOR issue. If Rafa is fouling, take a point away from him, too.
