ummm, no .............. yes yan the bum barthelemy did beat him but rigo did to and according to caballete who was there gamboa had to jump weight because of rigo. Even arum said it that rigo beat gamboa a couple of times
what does caballero know ? Arum ? see you are talking by stuff you hear on youtube and on here from guys who meet Gamboa, Barthelemy, Rigondeaux and Solis when the arrived in the US 2, 3 years ago, I'm talking by experience of following these guys since the 90's, going to boxing tournaments when I lived in Cuba and from the fact that my brothers dad "Juan Hernandez" national cuban coach, trained Gamboa as youth pushing him towards the national team.
lol is your name RANCES BARTHELEMY? lol did you really ask why would someone want to fight barthelemy intead of rigo? lmao i cant think of a reason they wouldnt
ok you obviously have no knowledge of amateur boxing in Cuba, and when it comes to these 3 guys you only know about them after they turned pro, if you ever get the chance to speak with someone who does know about cuban amateur boxing ask him about Barthelemy in his weight class back in Cuba and what he used to do to Gamboa year after year, tournament after tournament.
Barthelemy is the definition of a great amateur who would never make it as a pro.
FWIW I think highly of Rigondeaux. My thing is this; I just feel there is a huge difference between amateur and pros, and there are a few things rigondeaux has to work on if he wants to be elite
1. He has to tuck his chin as he is open to short right hooks. Also he has several defensive lapses in which is open and someone with great timing will give him problems. Look at Roy. He was about as talented as any fighter in the history of the sport. The thing is if you punched when he punched, due to him not tucking his chin.....he was open to several punches as well. Just check out rigondeaux and you will see him open for huge counters as well.
2. He has to improve on his ability to lead more in fights. I'm gonna use Floyd Mayweather, since both him and rigondeaux have similar elements to their game. When Floyd went from good to great....it's when improved on his ability to lead more in fights and put combinations together.
Guillermo has all the tools to do so....so hopefully the right trainer helps him in this area. Notice in the Mosley fight how much that helped Floyd. When he was on his back foot trying to counter. that's when Floyd got caught. Floyds best success was when he took the fight to Shane and no doubt there will be fights down the road when it will work in Rigondeaux favor to take the fight to his opponent.
3. His ability to clinch. Now I rarely, if ever, have seen Rigondeux clinch. Sorry man but there will be a time when you will have to do so or you are gonna end up getting destroyed. If we have learned anything from guys like Cotto and Calderon is that you can't take on a pressure fighter if you can't slow him down. Power is not enough as most pressure fighters have granite chins as well. Even Shane clinched to Slow Margarito down and
4. Work ethic. Talent only gets you so far and the sports best are also the hardest workers. I mean nobody works harder than Wladimir Klitschko, Floyd Mayweather, and Manny Pacquiao. There work ethic's are legendary....and from everything I heard....Rigondeaux is severely lacking in this area. Dude better step it up, if those rumors are true, because he will need it if he wants to take it to the next level.
Now again I'm not sh1tting on the kid, and I think he will be great as well. I just don't think he is ready for the elite fighters right now, and until he works on those areas I mentioned above, he is very vunerable against certain fighters.
I know there elite fighters, I just don't think they can beat Rigo. I'ma watch some of these fights on youtube today, if I can. Looking at Rigo fghts :hitit:
I just think Rigo is gonna go straight to the top. I've seen Mares since his fights on Telefutura, and Juanma. They were once at the same weight, and he even went on Solo Boxeo to commentate one of Juanmas fights. But when the tyme came for them to fight he moved down in weigh, and had that detached retina (however you spell it).
Mares gets hit too much, and Juanma will batter him unconscious. Mares did take a good fight when he fought Perez, he just has a shiit defense, and I'am echoing what others have said about his defnse, his own Mexican fans have said that.
Good sh1t...and my bad. I thought you were one of those guys who trashes Perez and thinks he is a bum.
What do you mean he only looked good because he was in with Mares? Dude Mares is an elite fighter himself. Matter of a fact I have Perez as the #1BW and Mares at either #2 or #3.
Perez has beaten three very elite BW's in Agbecko, Mabuza, Mares. I like how some people (this is me speaking in general and not bashing you) think Perez is chop liver. Yhonny is a legit fighter and extremely talented.

Rigo is like a mini Bhop, he controls the ring, countering and slipping shots. What happened in Perez/Mares is Mares has a shiit defense. I think Rigo would beat either Perez or Mares. I belive Perez only looked good cause he was in with Mares, but how they say style makes fights.

i wouldn't bet money on donaire perez or lopez beating rigo.
perez can be VERY reckless slow & wild with his shots. (waiting to be countered all night)
Donaire is a boxer who moves a lot. Rigo is not only a better boxer then Donaire but he's also BIGGER then donaire & packs more of a punch.
Lopez is there to be outboxed by a guy like rigo. lopez will come out fighting rigos style of fight from the jump. i believe marquez will expose this. win or lose.
rigo's gonna be HARD to beat.
Lopez is gonna completey domintate Marquez....so I don't see any point in that statement. Matter of a fact Lopez is the most talented guy 130 and below.....period, and this is coming from a guy that has bashed him several times.
Rigondeaux will get destroyed by Lopez at this point and even if the fought at a slowed down pace......Lopez still beats him.
perez has no defense at all he would get dominated against rigo without a doubt, donair is tall as ish so he might have a chance who knows but i still bet on rigo
Abner Mares is one of he most skilled fighters in the lower weight classes and he didn't dominate Perez. Neither did Silenze Mabuza.
People really sleep on Yhonny Perez when he is more than likely the best fighter at 118. If him and rigondeaux fought now......He would put so much pressure on Rigondeaux, that I see him folding in the late rounds. I have never seen Guillermo clinch nor do I believe that he has the power to back up Yhonny.
You can't just fineses yourself to victory no matter how skilled you are. Just ask Calderon how that worked out against Segura as well as Cotto against Margarito. Until Rigondeaux improves in those areas he will be vurnable to guys like Perez. Also with him keeping his hands down and the defensive lapses he has, he will be vurnable to guys with good timing as well.
Again this isn't me sh1tting on the kid....he will more than likely be great, it's just there are things he has to work on and right now he is very beatable.
Has a fight with Gamboa been seriously talked about yet?
according to Rigo's manager Bob Arum mentioned it as a possibility for late 2011, but of course thats just smoke in the air right now i dont think they would agree to it. once he does jump to 126 it probably be against a top dog in that weight class since he is signed to top rank
thats a myth, why would he run away from Rigondeaux towards Barthelemy who beat him almost everytime they faced each other in Cuba ?

Rigo was the Cuban team captain. Which usually means he was recognized as the greater talent.
Not that it matters, you'll never see a Gamboa vs Rigo fight. If Dirrell vs Ward never happened, then trust me, you'll never see two cubans from the same olympic team against each other. Hell Rigo was Gamboa's roommate when he landed in the states, no (I might be remembering that incorrectly)?
I'm pretty sure to these guys, it's cuba vs the world.
yeah he did stay in gamboa's for a while until he settled in, and i really doubt they would fight each other also. Gamboa already said a while back that cubans didnt come here to knock cubans of the rankings but to prove themelves against everyone else
again, it was barthelemy not rigondeaux

it's not a myth, it's the truth. anyway your question is kinda stupid homie, no offense. he skipped rigondeaux' weight class, barthelemy wasnt in that class. so why did he decide to run into barthelemy? go ask him, all i can tell you is he didn't go where rigondeaux was reigning, which was his best weight, and had to go one class above.
and a logical answer to your question is probably because rigondeaux was the best amateur in the world and chances were big that any teammate that would try his luck against him would lose. barthelemy was just another good cuban amateur in the near weights, yuri couldn't know he was going to lose before losing right?
Nope, Barthelemy did beat Gamboa in Cuba a few times, but the reason why Gamboa had to skip a weightclass (his best weight) was because Rigo was already there and raping the whole planet, so he had to go to a higher weight class because he knew he had no chance against Rigondeaux.
Those were the ams tho, Yuri is a beast in the pros, it would be a hell of a fight I don't want to see.
