Legendary boxing news writer Claude said this, after Roy's win over Ruiz.
Saying he knows all about the other greats, but he belives Roy is the greatest fighter to ever walk the earth and was unbeatable in his prime, and still says it to this day.
Thoughts???
Tend to agree with this statement. Roy was vicious early in his career. The two guys i see giving him trouble at MW and SMW were actually in his era. Michael Nunn and Gerald McClellan.
too dependent on his speed with little to fall back on
you cant call him the best when so many other fighters have been excellent in every area
Name me the fighters with Roys speed and reflexes who were greater than him in other areas.
James Toney didnt say RJJ was the best he fought. It was just physically great RJJ, and not a great tecnician. So cant call him the greatest really. But then again Ali was mainly physically great as well.
But Ali was a better tecnician i would say and a better resume.

That's very ridiculous.
Wtf?
Don't make me go down the basement to check-out my old copies. Really? If so that's awesome.....
I might have to go down and look and then 'expose' you. :lol1:
LOL, we'll chat one day.
And yours truly ;).

10 pages of hate, minimum.
Who did fighters use in sparring to prepare for Roy? I mean was there anyone who could even come close to mimicking his style?
Love the Claude Abrams. Sad day when he stepped down from Boxing News UK.
Indeed. Boxingnews BITD had a host of writers you could consider ATG's today (Abrams, Houston and more).
Its possible. We didnt get to see him tested enough in his prime to definitively say he was unbeatable, but based on his unique talents you cant say he wasnt unbeatable either.
Claude Abrams was a great writer. He did however fall into the same trap as many did when saying Tyson was the greatest heavyweight ever up untill he fought Douglas.
