Not a great fighter by any means but he was a titlist for quite a while - Johnny Nelson. I think he actually lost his first 3 fights. His record at the start of his career was awful. There are quite a few fighters who've lost their first fight but I don't know if losing one fight can really be deemed a disaster. Rafa Marquez lost his debut, for instance, but I think it was against a former champ, so that's not a big deal.

Not terrible, but they didn't start off on the right foot. Juan Manuel Marquez got a DQ losss in his first fight. Bernard Hopkins lost his first fight. Wilfredo Gomez drew in his first pro fight. Again, they're not terrible starts, but not the kind of way you want to start either.
