Dan Rafael is by far the best boxing journalist in MANY years, and is likely to enter the Boxing HOF f*ckers.
Guy is EXTREMELY objective and unbiased, despite what u guys constantly moan about.
He has DEVOTED his life to his job. He doesn't go out on weekends. Watches EVERY fight, whether its live or on DVD.
Holds 3+ hour chats EVERY SINGLE FRIDAY, almost without fail, for the fans. Whether you like his personality or not, the guy releases POUNDS of useful information in them and can be pretty funny.
Has SEVERAL blogs released each week, WHICH HE DOES NOT NEED TO DO OR GET PAID TO DO.
Is an EXCELLENT writer.
Updates the schedule DAILY.
His Rankings are THE BEST IN THE WORLD. He POURS over those rankings, makes sure they are PERFECT.
Is EXTREMELY open about everybody in the industry, how the business works, who does what and how good a job he thinks they do.
And is one of the single hardest working guys in the industry.
----
Love him or hate him, Dan Rafael is one of THE BEST in the business, I couldn't IMAGINE anybody else being the main guy for ESPN, AND HE WILL BE SORELY MISSED WHEN HE IS GONE.
Trust me. Get to like this guy because there is nobody in ANY other sport that's does what this guy does, and he does it WELL.
People make those accusations because Rafael has the nerve to actually call promoters, and managers, and complain about other reporters and websites getting information BEFORE him. When the owner of this website broke the entire story about the Super Six and even had the schedule and timeline, THREE DAYS before Rafael, it didn't stop Rafael from going on ESPN and Showtime and parading around as if he broke it. Even Showtime acknowledged that this website broke that story and so did numerous other outlets.
A perfect example. Earlier today we broke a story about Montiel coming off his medical and being back in camp. Then five hours later Rafael puts up the same story, with near IDENTICAL quotes from Montiel, with a few words switched around. Coincidence, I think not.
Why am i not surprised FAT DAN would do something like that
:Thinkingo
Guys to busy eating cheetos on his couch to get the scoop on anything.
His writing skills are ok, but far from impeccable.

Truthfully, it's not that hard to be a decent boxing writer. The standards are very low.
some of the stuff out there is just terrible.
here's one on Valero's death;
http:www.gofukkyourself/doyourownresearch.com
exactly my point. There shouldn't be any research involved. You should be able to go to ESPN.com/boxing and randomly pick 10 stories and most of them would be him taking credit. The sane fans know 99% of the Rafael bashing is horseshit.
Rafael is alright. I just dont like the fact that he wears socks with sandals and a fanny pack to a major media event.
Guy is too comfortable in his job.
lmao, this post is useless without pics.

i've also noticed Rafael's tendency to claim credit for news that's been on the web HOURS and sometimes DAYS before he reports it
Since this is his tendency and you follow him please link me to one of these stories. Should be no problem.

I'm not gonna get in a pissing match over something so asinine. I enjoy this site and it's news and I enjoy the stuff Rafael brings to the sport. I just don't understand the hostility at all. Why does anyone need to have "credit" as breaking a story anyways? I couldn't care less who "broke" the story as long as I know what's going on.
Reporters and journalist are always *****ing and crying about who get's the story first. As a fan i don't give a **** who breaks the news first to tell you the truth. What i like about Dan is unlike other sites and reporters he don't break useless news just to break them like manny breaking a fuken fingernail. Another thing is after someone breaks news what is he suppose to do? Not talk about it? He works for espn alot of average fans check espn before they check other sites. I think he is by far the best writer and i can't care less about what goes on with him and his competition.
Boxing is the only thing from ESPN I care about at all. I despise the network itself. I'm not gonna crap on people with good jobs who I enjoy reading...

the fact is he and the rest of espn have been called out on it numerous times. thats why other members of the sports media are very weary of espn in general. they get away with doing a lot of ****.

Im just going to say one thing, he is good for boxing.
What do you have to say about him claiming Marquez was robbed, but then admitted to not watching the fight?
I want to read this.
All I know is it seems that this is like the number one complaint of Rafael which somehow proves he's a liar and fraud. I don't know the specifics of exactly what happened, and I'd wager more than half of the people here who bring it up only know about it from 2nd hand sources (ie posters on this forum). If I had some reliable sources watching or attending a fight and they tell me a fight was a pure robbery I may report it, I wouldn't say I watched it (did he say he watched the fight, did he do an entire write-up like he'd watched it?).
Well I don't assume someone is "stealing" a story unless I was sure of it. That's the side it seems you are erring on. That's my main problem with the criticizing that he's stealing.
I'm not sure of anything because I can't see inside people's brains...

Sounds like you're not 100% sure that he does. I wouldn't argue in his side if I were you because i'm 100% you don't know for sure that he indeed does not steal. Seems like you're just blindly taking his side.

So it's stealing if Dan Rafael does it because he's ESPN, but it's not stealing if boxing websites do it?
I get sick of the bashing of Rafael when we all know damn well he breaks stories in the sport and I have yet to see him get any credit from any of the articles on this website once. If people who write articles for this site want to have some credibility saying Rafael is "stealing" give him credit when it is due. If not you are on the same playing field, which I'm fine with, just don't play the moral superiority card.

Seems many times his sources are actual promoters, managers, and fighters themselves. People assume he's "stealing" info from other sites when oftentimes I bet he gets the information just like many boxing websites do, directly from the people intimately involved (not other websites).
u dont understand how this goes, espn always claims to break stories first even tho they dont and they never give credit to the ppl who break the stories. even if rafael confirms, hes supposed to give credit to the ppl who break the story first, thats how its supposed to go, especially with a huge site like espn. in fact they got called out last week for this same thing for stealing on of jay galzer's football stories and not giving him credit. espn does it all the time and so does rafael.

the difference being rafael works for espn, a big market site yet i never see him cite any sources when he posts breaking stories. on this site, even with all it's faults, i have seen them give sources on occasion
more than on occasion, this site gives sources quite often
