This is the first year that I didn't bother to vote. Three per year are enshrined, and it's near-impossible to believe that it won't be Tyson, Chavez and Tszyu.
Tyson and Chavez are 100% locks, and I'd be shocked if they weren't both unanimous picks.
I still say there's a solid debate between Tszyu and Hamed, but the fact that so many voters view Tszyu as a first-ballot level HOD tells me that voting will be near-unanimous for him as well.
Really pointless to vote for any other candidate this year, all things considered so I sat this one out.
How can he have those 5 guys and NOT Sven Ottke?!?!?
Sven Ottke has TWITTER!!!!!!
do you think this
the apples make good battery on women tools
or
the boat buying investment seminar
will have more legs?
Hamed would have gotten destroyed by Morales, Marquez, and even a one dimensional version of Pacquiao. **** man, Hamed is lucky fighters like Marquez, Vazquez, Gamboa, Caballero, and Lopez weren't fighting when he was.
He didnt get "destroyed" by Barrera and that wasnt even Naz at his best.
Hamed (36-1, 31 KOs), England's flashy and monster-punching "Prince," fought for only 10 years (1992 to 2002) and lost his biggest fight -- a clear decision in his showdown with Marco Antonio Barrera in 2001. Hamed fought just once more before retiring.
But what an exciting, accomplished 10 years they were. It's unfortunate that many allow the loss to Barrera, a future Hall of Famer in his own right, to obscure Hamed's otherwise distinguished career.
Hamed was long considered the best featherweight in the world, was ranked on the pound-for-pound list and, in an era of watered down titles and four major belts, should have held all four simultaneously. (Boxing's politics worked against that achievement.) He defeated alphabet titleholders Steve Robinson (TKO8), Tom Johnson (TKO8) and Cesar Soto (W12) to claim belts. He also beat Wilfredo Vazquez (TKO7), who had been stripped of his version of the title for facing Hamed. Overall, Hamed defended his WBO version of the title 15 times and held the lineal 126-pound championship for three years, all while bringing extraordinary excitement and showmanship to a small weight class that had never before seen the infusion of money it enjoyed during Hamed's heyday. He changed the economic model of the smaller weight divisions and deserves a place in Canastota.
Hamed's American debut against former champ Kevin Kelley (KO4) at Madison Square Garden in 1997, which coincided with Hamed's signing a big HBO contract, was one of the most exciting fights of the decade. He also beat notable foes and former titleholders Wayne McCullough, Paul Ingle, Vuyani Bungu and Manuel Medina.
His reasons for Hamed.. and anyone who was watching boxing around that time can't really disagree.
Excellent posting. Anybody who disagrees with Hamed is clueless. Being there and watching his career since the mid to late 90's was one of the most exciting times for me as a boxing fan. A Prince fight was always a great show and his competition wasn't really as bad as many people might think. Kevin Kelley wasn't as washed up as people try to make him out to be, he was just totally out of his element when he was in the ring with Naz.
With 4 belts per division, everyone is a former/current/future champion. What are the names of the guys he beat? Entertainment doesn't factor in at all in HOF voting.
Naz held all 4 belts in the featherweight division.
At the end of the day only 3 choices can get in. And, Hamed doesn't deserve to get in before the likes of JCC, Tyson, and Kostya.
Then you throw in Vazqeuz, Cocoa Kid, Garcia, Serrano, and whoever is going to be new in the ballot for next year. Then is really going to be debatable when Hamed could get in.
Why have people got a problem with Hamed? He was a very good fighter and was the #1 featherweight for years, he also was very entertaining. He deserves to be in the HOF.
Because idiots like Sweet Jesus have never watched a Hamed fight in their life and go strictly off of boxrec and what they've read on this forum about him.
They're just clueless kids.
:haha:
This douchebag just stated that Naseem Hamed is better than Lennox Lewis.
Let alone Benn and Eubank.
He is eon's better than Lennox Lewis was. He actually possessed something Lewis never has - actual skills and abilities and athleticism and fought in a much tougher division.
Keep in mind he was never KO'd, as Lewis was on two separate occasions by journeyman fighters while in the prime of his career.
The fact that you even brought up Lewis when talking about Hamed shows you have no idea what you're talking about, as Hamed is the better fighter, and Lennox is a self proclaimed Canadian - which is who he represented in the olympics and is the country of which he is currently a citizen, IIRC.

Hamed is an obvious choice. He beat many (about 10) former, current, and future champions, with only one loss by decision. Of course JCC, Tszyu, and Tyson are even more obvious.
I like his picks.
Anybody complaining about Hamed doesn't know what they're talking about. Hamed is a hands down sure in Hall of Fame fighter. He was very good, Britains best of the last 20 years.
that mat be true but i dont think the guy is a first ballot hofer...

lol, carlos hernandez was on the list??? he was pretty good at sfw in his prime, if it wasnt for genaro and floyd sonning him, id consider him in the top 5 of that era.
his pick of Myung over guys like Ceferino Garcia & Samuel Serrano is funny. Yuh got many gift wins fighting only in South Korea, no problem in putting him eventually in the IBHOF but to put him before guys like Garcia and Serrano is questionable.
I think Rafael is lazy if he can atleast pick 7 or 8 guys, probably like he can only pick 5 guys per division on some of his p4p rankings, if i was this lazy in my job i would get fired.
he missed cocoa kid
writers are full of shiit, when discussing Puerto Rican greats they never discuss Jose Basora, who drew with Sugar Ray Robinson and defeated Jake Lamotta :wtf1:
