I am happy for him that he is getting it and getting a career high payday for it.
He should of have gotten big money fights in 06, he should of gotten this payday or more so in 08 after Cotto.
But, 2 of the biggest names avoided him. NO top WW dared to mention his name for the first half of the decade.
Never got the respect he deserves for having arguably having the best WW resume in the last 10 years.
Yes he might be a disgraced fighter now, due to the Shane and wraps scandal. But, I am happy he is getting paid now.
As a Pac fan, this fight does nothing for Pac. Manny should be fighting more deserving fighters. But, as a Marg I like that he is getting the opportunity.
As a Pac fan it would suck if he lost to Marg. But, if Pac has to lose I would like to be to Marg. I am still rooting for Pac and hope he wins. Which I think he will. However, as a Marg fan I would be happy for him if he could pull off the upset.
That is all.
Tony isn't 40-50 years old and he hasn't lost been knocked out several times in a row. XCome on now thats a pretty shiiitttyyy anology there.
but you are going on tonys past accomplishments that has nothing to do with him fighting for a jmw title. Pac and tony should not be fighting for a JMW title.
Who has Pac beat at Jmw to earn his ranking. As you said tony was a 3champ at ww so how is beating gracia guy who was not ranked in the top 15 get you the number 1# ranking?
If pac want the belt fight a champ. If tony want a belt fight some ranked 1st then fight a champ.
If the wbc creates a diamond Hw belt do you think Zsolt Erdei should fight for the title because he a former lhw and cw champ
cant say i agree with this sentiment. margs had his chance at big paydays. he was on top of the world after he beat cotto(im still not convinced that that fight was legit). he wasnt due for any huge paydays until about that time, imo simply because he hadnt beat anybody worth that much. now after cotto he was on top of the world and what does he do???
so if he would have never gotten a big payday after cotto, then good for him, he didnt deserve it. and he def didnt back then either. ppl on this site **** on berto for the tough fights that hes been in. but lets not forget before cotto, margs was in some really ugly fights as well. but yet ppl on here dont think berto deserves his mill???
People who concern themselves with what fighters should and shouldn't make are mentally fuking retarded ,self important jackasses!
one has never fought at that weight and the other has not beat any ranked fighter at that weight in the past 5 years
And??? Is this your first day following boxing? Compared to some of the ridiculous fighters that have literaly been given titles like these over the years its good to see two present/former champions who have actually acomplished something in their careers fighting for a belt. Seriously there have been much more ridiculous bouts for titles over the years but of course everyone has to overexagerrate this one.

ok so do holyfeild or roy jones deserve a shot at the wlad or vitial....NO and how is beating a guy who was not ranked earn u a title shot.

There is no problem with the fight, but all the other things that has came with this match. Is Margo a threat to Pac, of course cause his size and activity.
But everything else that it represents: another catchweight fight, neither fighter has done anything in the weight class to be fighting for a major title and another top rank fighter.
Interesting fight but it doesn't have much meaning cause Margo lost all his momentum with the wrap scandal and it shows more that the belt organizations rankings are a joke and are just in favor of money or influence
Still don't understand how two fighters with 10 title wins between them and have been fixture on the PFP list for the last 5 years suddenly don't deserve a title shot
one has never fought at that weight and the other has not beat any ranked fighter at that weight in the past 5 years
everyone knows my relationship with the team but I even told his manager when it was signed that neither deserved to fight for the belt
Thats why you are one of the best posters on this site.

The guarantee held no water cuz nothing was signed. That is why after Judah lost they went on to re-negotiate and Judah accepted less money because lets face it he just lost to a journeyman. So if Floyd is offering a fight he is going to take it no matter if it was less money.
But, since nothing was signed Floyd could of fought anther fighter. He should of fought Baldo instead and he should of fought Margo instead of Baldo.
Yeah i agree that would have been ideal, and yeah they had to 're-negotiate' but it was one of those where he was garanteed behind the scenes, he had an agreement to fight Judah, so he had to do it pretty much. It was the choice between Baldomir and Margarito where he had the choice, and its a tough one, but he choose Baldomir, who was a weaker option theres definitely a case that he flat out avoided Margarito, im not disputing that, but i just dont think its a clear as day situation.
everyone knows my relationship with the team but I even told his manager when it was signed that neither deserved to fight for the belt
True and I agree.
However, I am happy that Marg is getting this payday and I would be really happy for him if he wins.
That was really the point of this thread that got lost somewhere.

April 9, 2006 Zab Judah
Contract extention expired in May 2006.
The reason Mayweather opted for the buyout rather than waiting for the May 6 result was because the contract had a limited window for the buyout, one that expired before the De La Hoya fight.
So How could the fight been done in August or November and still buyout of his contract?:nono:
If Arum wouldnt fulfilled Mayweather requirments for a contract extention.
(8M Margarito, $10M Miguel Cotto, and $10M Ricky Hatton)
Arum said while Mayweather would have taken the $8 million to fight Margarito, he asked for a $10 million guarantee to fight opponents such as Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton, when Arum was only willing to guarantee $7 million
Arum said Mayweather also asked for $20 million to fight De La Hoya, a fight Arum said he wasn't interested in participating in.
"That's not in the cards," Arum said. "He wants $20 million for the De La Hoya fight? It's not there. Sometimes, my man, you gotta know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em. We'll talk about things down the road."
Arum said he was simply not interested in participating in a De La Hoya-Mayweather fight, but not because of his distaste for De La Hoya.
"I don't want to, because if I did that fight, I would be working for such a small percentage, it's not worth it," he said.
:nono: Dont rewrite history.
November 4, 2006 146 Carlos Manuel Baldomir: $8 Million.
be back in couple hours.
In that same article where you like to quote Arum. He also said he would have granted an extension to the buyout window if Floyd want it.
So don't bother coming back
but Garcia was a fringe contender at best so beating him should have done nothing for Tony's rankings
for a title? yes it's a load of crap both fighters IMO did nothing to deserve the belt
however if you are worried about Tony they view this as welterweight + 3 so those hard pounds fighters have to lose during fight week will not be an issue
Freddie was right this should have been at welter but it's not and what Manny and his team thought was an advantage for them making the bigger man come down, they forgot Tony was essentially a career welter to begin with

I never said Cotto, I am talking about Marg and the other guy I only mentioned was Johnstong.
However, if you really read that. It says that Floyd could of fought Marg for 8mil in August or Nov and then buyout his contract.

Jro,he doesn't deserve it but Ur glad he got it??I guess,I mean there are elite fighters at 154 who labor there constantly but somehow,Margarito who little over a year ago was caught red handed trying to cheat against Mosley, then there's Pacman,a great talent no doubt, but has no credentials yet both are fighting for a title of 154 at a catchweight!!What about the guys that go in there & duke it out at 154 day in & out, what about them!!He doesn't deserve it but ur glad he got it??
Yes I am happy for Marg that he is getting this payday.
The fight is B.S, the catch-weight, and vacant title is all crap. Pac should be fighting more deserving fighters. And, I have no problem with people criticizing him for it.
However, I am happy for Marg that he is getting this payday. And, if he wins as a Pac fan it would suck. But, I would be happy for Marg. If I could pick a fighter that I would like to beat Pac. It would be Marg or Bradley.
floyd wanted arum to set up fights for 10 each with cotto and hatton if he fought marg.
maybe you should read. he was using marg as leverage to get paydays with hatton and cotto. arum didnt want to pay so he walked
The money was offered in April.
Was he offered a career high payday at that time to fight Marg yes or no?
Is really a simple question.
The way I see it is that Margarito beat Garcia to get himself back in contention.
but Garcia was a fringe contender at best so beating him should have done nothing for Tony's rankings
He is rated #1 by WBC and the WBA. The only thing bad about the fight is the catchweight. If Pacquiao wants a belt at 154 he should allow Margarito to weigh in at that weight.
