Mikkel Kessler risks serious handicaps if he continues fighting and it's not worth it he says.
In an interview with danish tabloid BT.dk, Mikkel Kessler says that he is sure his eye-condition will improve but it's a question of when. The worlds leading expert in eye injuries Dr. Gerhard Lang has said it will take 9 months and that the only cure is rest.
"People say: What if you take a punch and the injury returns? Is it worth it? It is not."
Based on that Kessler will call it a day by the smallest sign of the injury reoccurring when and if he commences training after his involountary lay-off.
To danish television Kessler the other day said that his condition hasn't improved so far.

Unfortunately for him, Mikkel Kessler can not just lean back making a living off the interest of the fortune he allegedly has earned in the prize-ring. Rumour has it that he has earned up to 100 million DKK ($ 20M).
"I wish I had just earned 50 million. The reality is that expenses are much greater than people think."
Most of Kessler's money is invested. "I'm happy about the flat I bought to my mom and niece, but other than that I've done a lot of stupid things."
"Suddenly your money is here there and everywhere. I've had 500 enquiries with smart investments I should do, and I've lend out a lot of cash."
"Look at 20 year old Caroline Woznicki. She makes good decisions. When I was her age I did stupid things. I bought 3 cars instead of 1. Every time I got money I'd spend 'em."
"Don't feel sorry for me though. Even if I only had 1,000 DKK a month I'd never say I'm ****ed because I am not."
So him wanting to get back in the ring has nothing to do with money: "Of course I want to make money. We all do. But if I'm going to have trouble seeing because of training and punches then it's not worth it. Not even if I only had 1,000 DKK a month."
I reckon Kessler still has a bit of money left, maybe a couple million $ or so, so not the end of the world. but wasting so much money must have really affected him. i really hope his eye injury heals because a fight against the super 6 winner would get him a big purse (a few million $) and because he could become champ again. a fight against bute would bring in the money too... nice guy kessler is..
I know all abotu Denmark, my cousin is Tim Christensen, and he could easily get 3 cars for under 100k easily. My point is he most likely used the money on cocaine and other drugs. Another athlete laid to waste at the hands of a vicious addiction. This "eye" problem is probably just rehab. He'll be back and be a shell of a fighter he used to be.
I dont know if it was intended, but that post made me lol pretty good.
Not every boxer is as financially smart as Calzaghe, that guy made some quality investments and makes a nice monthly residual on his earnings.
Thats why he could retire and not look back, Boxing is a very dangerous sport and more boxers need to be care and harsh with the money they earn, If i was a boxer i would be stingy like fvck.
Even though there's no way you can get 3 cars for 90K in Denmark, there's little need for Kessler to account for failed investments before the general public.

this dude had a doctor tell him he can go blind, meaning that until the day he dies he wont be able to see anything and yet some of you are actually encouraging him to fight on. seriously man you all need a dose of reality, all of you who are saying that don't even have a fraction of a clue how hard it is to Box and take punches for a living, y'all think it's peaches and cream for Kessler because y'all are not him, y'all don't know a fighter's pain..
I only trained Boxing for a little less than a year back when I was like 16 but I was going to the gym daily and dedicated, the training regiment was enough to make me respect ANY fighter, it's so difficult you can't even begin to comprehend unless you go to a gym and become a Boxer yourself. if Mikkel retires it's because he realized that he can go blind, he would be endangering his livelihood yet all you computer desk warriors insult him for making the right choice in his life

Does he have a cocaine plant in Colombia?
:banana::banana:
Kessler never struck me as someone who would make stupid financial decisions, hopefully he does alright though.

wow thats it? he doesnt care if he gets that per month? wonder what he has in his bank account
1,000 DKK is just a figure of speech and not to be taken on face value.
His investment in organic protein powder actually might pay-off at some point.

Wow...he bought 3 cars? 3! That surely accounts for the 20 million he blew. Sorry Mikkel where is the other $19,910,000?

Yeah thats a good point.
On a side note:
I think Andre Ward should be banned or suspended from boxing for seriously injuring Kessler and essentially ending his career using illegal headbutts.
To be fair, Kessler has said his problems started pre-Ward.

yeah me too cant picture Kessler making it rain like Floyd is some club :lol1:
At least he admits that it was his own fault for his financial decisions he made...
Yeah thats a good point.
