Anybody feel like a Sergio Martinez win over Paul Williams is better for boxing?

I don't think so. I like both gusy and I think both guys are great for the sport. So I think whoever wins this fight would be great for the sport. The only way I see a Martinez win being better for the sport is that might make a third fight possible. Which would be great as well. Besides that it doesn't matter who wins both would benefit the sport. And, whoever losses won't be out of the mix either. Still will be a top entertaining fighter. Can't wait :boxing:

And the reason I ask that is because if Williams wins it means that he's automatically gonna vacate the title to move back down in weight to 147 (like he's saying) and fight in a division that isn't as deep in talent like 154 and 160 is. I usually don't get down on Paul for wanting to fight at 147 because of the size factor because if he makes the weight he makes the weight. But 147 is a no man's land and it seems like that's the real reason Williams wants to move down there to get away from tough competition. Middleweight isn't flooded with talent either in my view like 154 is. But you still got Pirog and Ferando Guerrero and the guys right now at 154 will probably move up there eventually like Kirkland, Lara, Angulo, and Alvarez. The fact that Martinez wants to establish himself is a reason to root for him in this fight. Anytime a new face shows up in the sport and gets a deserving win is ALWAYS GOOD for boxing. Unless he's fighting Mayweather or Pacquaio, there isn't a fight at 147 that makes even a little bit of sense. And there is almost zero chance of either of those two fighting him. No matter how much crap he talks, Williams' days at 147 are gone forever. Staying on topic, Williams-Martinez is the most evenly matched big fight remaining this year. It is easy to see either of them winning.

No it's not better for boxing,fact is this is a pick em fight between 2 very good fighters who have no one to fight but themselves because they possess underrated & underappreciated skills!!I'm a Punisher fan but i have a lot of respect for Martinez & wish him the best!!If Martinez wins,that's good for him,but all it means is that the better fighter won that night!!Same thing if the Punisher wins!!These 2 fighting period is amazing for the sport,no cherrypicking,just the 2 best fighters at 154 & 160 duking it out!!After all the pfp king is fighting a cheater in their 154 pound division for a title!!This fight is for the fans without an additional 60 bucks & whoever wins deserves it!!

Not only that but if Williams did stay put for a fight or two at 154 until a superfight came aloing at 147 or he had another option you know Williams isn't fighting another top 154'lber because they're not "name" enough for him. Kirkland, Angulo, Dzinziruk. Perhaps Cotto is the only guy he'd be willing to fight but i don't see Cotto taking that. MW is a good division but same thing, there is no names for this prissy no name to fight.

Well if Sergio wins theres apossible 3rd fight floating, and if Williams loses and looks bad it might make Mayweather or Pacquiao more interested i fighting him...so in a way Sergio winning might have some benefits, Im rootin for Sergio anyhow.

I want a good fight without a judge having lopsided, money in the backpocket scores. I don't see Martinez fighting lesser comp if he should win, his track record as of late suggests that he is willing to take on the best. Williams, I don't know what his future holds. He is only interested in fighting Mayweather or Pac, one of which is out the mix for a while. I don't think Williams likes the idea of fighting over 154 for some reason, so I don't really know who he plans on fighting next if he wins- it sure won't be Pac, that is just too much of a mismatch in size.
