So you want to know who's LIKELY to replace Mikkel Kessler in Super Six & face Allan Green? Well you're in the right place. Glen Johnson.
How SICK would that be? Green gets his comeuppance; Johnson KO 5. :boxing:

Please keep your limey bums out of NSB.
oh sorry didnt know Magee was English. Plus Johnson is about forty and is way more of a bum right now than Magee.

lol if Glen wins the super six tournament :lol1:
I mean, this entire tournament was supposed to be about putting the best 168 pound fighters in the ring together, not a 175 pound guy coming down in weight who isn't ranked.
I definitely agree with this, but when it comes to the politics of boxing I can understand the position they're in. Johnson is co-promoted by Dibella, who also promotes Green and Taylor, and has been involved in the tournament from the beginning. The only other "name" 168 lber you have associated with any promoter involved is Edison Miranda (Goosen Tutor)... and while I'd like to see Green finally get his rematch with Pantera, I don't think you can make a case for him to be in this tournament.
Outside of that you have Andrade with Golden Boy, who probably have no interest in Showtime's little tournament, and the other promoters likewise probably have no interest in dealing with Golden Boy. Then you have Sartison and Stieglitz, unknown to the U.S. audience now and likely forever given their promotion outfits.
So how far down the list do you go to find an available participant who can compete on the world level?
If Glen can make 168 comfortabley then it could be fun.
But i say just let the final 4 battle it out, Green and whoever else come in are not original members of the Super 6 tournament so don't have much of a shot of winning. It's just putting someone in there for the sake of putting someone in there.
This is interesting, I was really dissapointed in Green being knocked off the tourney because of Kessler. The guy entered the tourney with no points and was booted after one fight, and it wasnt even his fault. If this comes to pass it could make for an interesting match, Itll favor Green much more than the Ward fight did. Can Johnson keep his power and stamina going down?? Can Green make the weight comfortably, I remember him saying to Ward after the fight he needed to go up in weight...
The thing(s) not to like about Glen Johnson is he's 40-41 years old, he's lost 2 of his last 3 fights, he hasn't fought under 175 in over 10 years, he's not ranked at 168 and he's not marketable at this point in his career.
Yeah, he's a super great guy and all but all things considered Johnson makes no sense.
Those losses have come against top 175 lbers almost half his age (he was very competitive against Cloud), his most recent win was a stoppage of Yusuf Mack who is on par with Green as far as I'm concerned, and his last four fights have been televised either on HBO or ESPN - making him far more marketable (at least in the short term) than Bika, who has only been televised twice in the U.S. since winning the Contender back in 2007 (once on Versus and the other on a PPV undercard).
Regardless, it seems that Bika was approached (again) and understandably refused to participate because of the recent death of his father.
People need to look at the business side of this thing.
Showtime doesn't want to move to the Semi's because losing a whole round of fights mean losing a whole round of money.
By forcing Green and Johnson into a fight where they need a KO to advance it makes possible fights like Froch-Dirrell II or Dirrell-Abraham 2.
Under this scenario Showtime keeps alive the possibility of having not 1 but 2 Dirrell-Ward fights going off under their banner.
I dont think it's a secret that HBO will make a push for the winner of the Super 6 to come over to their network to fight Lucian Bute, so Showtime wants to get as many fights and as much money out of this thing as they possibly can.
Johnson looked a little weight drained against Cloud.
Moving up to cruiserweight looked like the right move, he shouldn't be stripping himself down even more at 40 years old. But if he's only after the money, then fukc it, he can make a million just by getting down to 168.
Poor management perhaps but that doesn't mean Glen Johnson of all people is a better replacement than Bika.
Sure Bika got DQ'd his last fight but he absolutely destroyed his opponent in one round. Stupid to hit a guy late but it happens, Gamboa could have a DQ on his record, Roy Jones did it, Arthur Abraham, etc etc etc. Shiit happens.
Sakio Bika is ranked #6 at SMW by the Ring Ratings. This is the super six right? Where is Johnson ranked at SMW??
My bias against Bika is just that; bias. Does he belong in the Super Six more than Glen Johnson does? Probably. But IMO he had his chance when Showtime offered him the first match with Green and he didn't jump on it, so now he gets another chance? I mean, it takes a special kinda idiot to out-stupid his way out of a fight with Allan Green, the master of stupid negotiations.
Like I said, just pure subjective bias. I'm not really liking Bika at the moment, while there is nothing about Glen Johnson not to like.
Why not bring Bute,Andrade,Miranda,**** bring Lacy, Cloud,Pasqual someone fresh!!! But in the other hand if Johnson makes weight he can school most of the super 6 guys!!!!
How is glen johnson a better alternative than Bika? Bika is a solid fighter, he's ranked at 168 and the last time he lost at 168 pounds was to bute like 4 or 5 years ago. Bika was probably more deserving than Allen Green tbh
Co-sign ...you read my mind.... how is johnson more worthy than bika...bika would actually have a very good chance..... he deserves his shot
Whattttttttttttttttttttt?
:?!:
Random. No way Johnson will make 168 and be effective there...
Just skip right to the semis, please. This is messy enough as it is already.
Really. At this point they should be looking to end this tourney.
That's a little crazy really, I like Johnson but he's not 'as is' a contendor at SMW, whilst someone like Bika or somebody is.
I can't think of many competitions whereby as it progresses the competition gets worse not better. The whole idea of a competition is it gets more competitive as it goes on, not the other way round.
Heck even if Johnson was crowned the winner by some crazy chance like 18 months+ down the line...Dawson could just drop right down to 168 and take it off him. 2-3 years of a competition and boom. What a mess.
