He gassed in the first fight and went a few rounds with out doing but running and getting punched in the face.
One on ref break he fell to the floor crawled around for a second and got up breathing hard as hell.
Clearly exhausted.
After the fight he said something along the lines of "I was trying to preserve energy to keep up with his pace".
Now in the Pavlik fight. Mid fight he got tired again and Pavlik stole rounds.
Martinez can not keep up with Paul Williams. He will lose....again.
And new Ring Middleweight Champion of the worldddddddddddddddd
Paul "The Punisher" Williams
It's not moot when Martinez's main issue was stamina cause he didn't have that long to train.
I'd rather have to switch gameplans last minute than only get half of the amount of necessary time to train.
Not to mention, at a weight he'd never been to before.
PS he did not get tired in the Pavlik fight. His corner had him take the middle rounds off to be safe after the Williams performance. Once he came out doubling his jab that cut was not just luck, he came out to do some damage that round.
You can seriously think that an 8-week camp won't make any difference.
We go back and forth on this a lot. How about all my points on Martinez, No odds?
LOL! The man gets praised for his great stamina all the time but NC says he has poor stamina fuking brilliant!!!
Lampley and Steward only gush at this guys stamina every chance they get.
Paul Williams wasn't training for a southpaw. Martinez is not only a southpaw but he mixes up fighting and running evenly. It was just as difficult an adjustment for him as it was for Martinez.
3 of his last 5 fights were against southpaws. All these PW excuses will be irrelevant once Martinez beats him.
Williams doesn't have the punching power, accuracy, defense, or boxing skills to beat Martinez. All he has is his "i'm playing boxing on a Wii video game and will flail my arms in a direction towards my opponent to make it appear to fools that i'm landing punches" style.

first of all my man martinez was a last replacement fighter to face paul he only had two weeks of training 4 da fight u can look up this info ur self we all saw wat he can do 2 him now imagine a full training camp
Bro this was discussed and disproven please go back and read the thread.

I keep trying to tell fellow boxing fans that Sergio does not have the endurance to keep up with Paul's pace. From a skills perspective the two are even, but conditioning is what won Paul the first fight.
Unless Sergio has drastically improved his stamina I see him losing again. Paul has also proven that he fights better in rematches.
Well he already ha a lost to guy who stands 5-8. Quintana.
So the height thing doesnt matter imo.
At 160 what guys can beat him at any time? There's mostly just prospects like Korobov, Pirog, N'Jikam, Golovkin, Lemeuix and Guerrero.
The most proven guys are Williams, Martinez and Pavlik.
I actually meant to put Jr. Middleweight, my bad.
The hieght thing makes a big difference, Look at Funeka vs Guzman, the only reason why Guzman struggled was because of Funeka's height.
I think martinez wins by a clear decision. Martinez clearly hurt williams in the first fight. Martinez threw the more telling blows, williams was throwing hoping he'd hit something at times.
Another thing that makes me think this is, williams didn't look very good in his last outing. Maybe it was the fight, maybe it was a sign of things to come. Of course anything can happen in boxing, so this is just how i see it.
Either way hopefully we get another good fight out of these two.
Even if that were true. It's a huge difference in training being a replacement option for a fighter that has never pulled out of a fight to knowing that you are actually going to fight. Huge difference.
Williams had more time in training camp. The difference in styles doesn't nullify the fact that he had already been training with the effort that he usually does for a fight.
The way you're talking, Peterson better have some special game planning sh!t that he could only implement into P-Will's 1 dimensional ass with an entire 8 week training camp:lol1:.
Whatever Peterson is doing. Works.
Hes 39-1 and avenged his only loss after picking this kid up off the street basically.
True, but you also have to use some common sense, why would a guy that 5-6 or 5-8, want to fight a guy who's 6-2. That doesn't make any sense for those guys to take that fight, he needs to be worried about the Middleweight division now, that division is loaded with guys who can beat him at any time.

You also have to consider Martinez's confidence level. He just beat the Middleweight champ of the world and lost a close, close, disputed fight against Williams whom many had him winning. Williams to me wasn't looking too great against Cintron as long as that fight lasted and still leaves himself wide open during exchanges and doesn't use his height or reach. With some adjustments, I can see Sergio beating Williams convincingly to a decision win. Williams would be a lot more effective if he were to use his physical attributes to his advantage.
Well, in my book if Paul Williams wins the fight He will not get FULL credit because He made the champion come down a few pounds.
IF Catchweight beatches want full credit, then fight the Champions at their weight class.
blah....blah.......blah
This is not true at all.
Martinez was approached by Williams team in the past as the Number 1 backup option. Martinez didnt know Pavlik would pull out again but he knew if he did he would be the guy to fight Williams.

Well Williams is on and off with his punches. Sometimes he throws a hard jab , sometimes its a "points" jab. Same with his "power" punches.
I really dont care about a most feared tag. Williams reputation for being avoided at 147 is WELL documented.
