Christian Bale plays Irish's half-brother and trainer Dickie Eklung. Bale again has undergone a dramatic transformation from being buff to being skinny in his latest role as Dickie. Several years ago, Bale, who lost a drastic amount of weight for his role in The Machinist, doesn’t look as gaunt in the latest film as he did then. The trailer coaxes inspirational imagery of an up-and-coming Irish Ward and who suffers a setback but perseveres, and looks strikingly similar to the Rocky movie series with Wahlberg running in a gray hooded sweatshirt. In The Fighter, Wahlberg’s character tries to make a comeback into the ring and loses but ultimately doesn’t give up. He also has to deal with his brother’s run-ins with the law. Amy Adams also stars in the movie, playing Wahlberg’s girlfriend. The film is directed by David O. Russell, who made I Heart Huckabees and Three Kings, and from the looks of the movie’s trailer, The Fighter looks to a departure from his previous comedy-laden movies.
