Wahlberg plays the boxer "Irish" Micky Ward in the based-on-a-true-story underdog tale. Christian Bale plays Irish's half-brother and trainer Dickie Eklung.
Bale again has undergone a dramatic transformation from being buff to being skinny in his latest role as Dickie. Several years ago, Bale, who lost a drastic amount of weight for his role in The Machinist, doesn’t look as gaunt in the latest film as he did then.
The trailer coaxes inspirational imagery of an up-and-coming Irish Ward and who suffers a setback but perseveres, and looks strikingly similar to the Rocky movie series with Wahlberg running in a gray hooded sweatshirt.
In The Fighter, Wahlberg’s character tries to make a comeback into the ring and loses but ultimately doesn’t give up. He also has to deal with his brother’s run-ins with the law.
Amy Adams also stars in the movie, playing Wahlberg’s girlfriend.
The film is directed by David O. Russell, who made I Heart Huckabees and Three Kings, and from the looks of the movie’s trailer, The Fighter looks to a departure from his previous comedy-laden movies.
mickey ward is going to be in my Irish American presentation and the class is going to watch round 9 of the ward vs gatti I. Should be a crowd pleaser with an easy A
Honestly i never know Ward had such a tough life
And Bale needs to stop all those weight changes, **** is taking years off his life
Read the book "Irish Thunder", it will give you a much deeper perspective of his life and what he's been through. Funny thing is fame and money never changed Ward, he's always been the same hard working guy and could give two shits what anyone thinks of him.
I hear that. I am guessing they will end it after the first Gatti fight when he wins then put in the prologue something like "Ward went on to lose the next two fights against Gatti in what is known as a modern day boxing classic trilogy" or something.i dont think they're showing gatti in it at all. i was curious myself to see who they have playing gatti, so i browed film's cast and credits and the name didnt come up, and im sure they would have included segments of it in the trailer.
how do you know they dont? couldnt possibly have a movie about Ward and not have Gatti in it and vice versa.

I hope it ends up better then it is looking. Wish they had Ward v Gatti in it.
