I mean, it'll reflect on his chin, but it depends on what happens. Maidana's a freaky puncher - if he just grinds Khan down and stops him in 9-10, so be it. We already knew Khan wasn't that tough and like I said earlier, Maidana can seriously hit. However, if he gets stopped in round 1 again, I'd say his career is kaput.
You can't cherry pick for five years straight. You have to face contenders like he did.
You know nothing..
The one time Hamed did step up to the elite level, he was thrashed. Most important to consider is the way Prince Naseem Hamed handled his one loss in the ring. Once Barrera exposed the emperor had no clothes, instead of going back to the gym to work on flaws and demand a rematch, Hamed largely disappeared from the ring and never fought another meaningful match. Truly great fighters prove themselves by rebounding from adversity to become even better, not by pulling a disappearing act.
There was certainly more money, fame and glory to be had, but Prince Naseem Hamed chose to walk away from the sport without giving himself a second chance to prove he could hang with certain first ballot hall of fame boxers such as Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales or Manny Pacquiao.
No way is his career over if he gets stopped! Ridiculous, if you americans haven't heard us brits love a loser, it makes things more interesting lol. If he gets stopped by maidana there are still a number of directions he can go, eg. He could fight john murray in the UK which would be a big fight. He could fight kotelnik again who has been crying out for a rematch and the winner could go back after one of the champions, none of these situations are ideal obviously but there would be interest there. There would obviously have to be a rebuilding job again, maybe 1 easy fight, but then yeah there will always be people who want to fight amir khan, and he will still fill out venues in the UK. The main thing would be if he himself would want it anymore.
Agree. Khan can't win the Americans over period. He gets dogs abuse for fighting non punchers (I've said all alone that he is only a very young fighter so whats the rush). He fights the biggest puncher out there and their still on his back. Is it because he is not American? Or is it because he is muslim? Both I suspect. It's the same for the haters here in the UK although he does now have a good fan base here. If he was white, well educated like say Cleverly he'd be of Hatton stature already.
My question is; What if he wins well? Are the haters going to give him any credit. Yeh he's had a fairly easy route since the the Prescott KO but he's still done it, he's as entertaining as any other fighter out their so whats the big f*cking deal. Give the guy some credit where it is due.

I mean if he gets Prescotted again early yeah he is done but if he takes some bombs and gets stopped late it might actually do his rep some service.
True if it was an all out war I would actually give him props even if he loses.. If he had a solid chin, he would wipe out the 140 division. He can still do it but has to be very careful, he's been rocked quite a few times and its going to be devastating if he takes a clean shot from Maidana.
What do you mean ask Naseem Hamed?
Hamed was 9 years undefeated. 5 years world champ.
Only lost once in his entire career to a Barerra at the peak of his form.
Yeah right, will hamed be introduced to the boxing hall of fame? I don't think so, Hamed cherry picked his opponents , as soon as Hamed faced a top feathweight in Barrera he was schooled, he was offered a return but refused he had a few more fights after that but was never the same after that fight,
he will come back and fight bums to bring back the hype. then he will duck the big punchers and cherrypick his opponents to make sure he'll be the next big star in boxing.
He won an Olympic medal and has widespread exposure in Britain. The guy's a (relative) star in the UK, a household name. Even if he gets KO'd he'd still be popular. It would take a number of KO defeats to really dampen his popularity here and perhaps not even then as he'd still be a name like Audley Harrison is.
khan was popular in the UK when he first turned pro,
but the fans got sick of Khan cherry picking his fights,
he wouldn't face the top guys in his division in the UK or europe.
comparing Khan with Audley Harrison is spot on,
go to any boxing forum and see how popular Khan is,
another KO for Khan and he's done for in the states, ask naseem hamed

OK. You're probably right. I mean, you'd know being over there and stuff. Tell you this much....he may have a few hardcore fans but he'll never be an elite name to the rest of the world aka no big fights here in the US.
wait...what's this i keep hearing about him having lots of supporters???
why does he or would would he have a legion of fans if he gets exposed and rocked to sleep all over again???? what has he done to make him exceptional/not an overhyped bum? did i miss some of his fights?

Yeah. He's done if he's KO'd by Maidana. I'll take Khan by decision, but it wouldn't shock me to see him take a humiliating canvas nap. For me what it comes down here, is this :
Has Khan's move up in weight and improvement in the folks he chooses to surround him improved his chin?
One would think he's gonna' suck up at least one hard combo in this contest.
Should tell the tale.
good stuff
Is his career kaput?

depends who KO's him
if it was another lesser opponent, Khan goes up in smoke
but he could be stopped by one of the JWW elite and be excused for it
Great post.
I hope Khan wins, though. I like his boxing style.
If its a non-competitive stoppage like the first time out then he is no longer going to be considured an elite fighter. If he goes down late in a FOTY all out war against a Maidana I cant see it hurting his image too badly.
No, it means he still has a career ahead of him cos he brings in the crowds, he boxes well and he is an entertainer.
On top of that the girls love him.
What can you say?
I don't know about that. Why would he still bring in crowds? Like, why?
