How would boxing be today if he'd have fought Marg (who would likely be using plastered gloves), got beat (let's just say, though it would come to no surprise if the far more talented De La Hoya won). Pacquiao probably wouldn't even move up in weight without that kind of concession, and thus wouldn't be a 7 time world champ. No one would be talking about Pac-May right off the bat. Not to mention Marg would then run in to Mosley and get his ass kicked after getting caught with plaster in his gloves. Than Mayweather probably wouldn't have returned from his retirement.
Man, nothing but bad news if De La Hoya lost to Marg (assuming he would lose)
if theyre on board then they can fight then call out the next winner. you want Khan to fight all of them while they just wait around? a tournament would be winners facing winner, forget the round robin bs
No, but he's fighting someone who would be the 4th seed as if he were #1.
If it were a tourney, even single elimination, he'd be #2 or 3 and forced to fight Alexander before fighting the winner of #1 vs. 4.
Khan gets the easiest route to the top of 140.
Yes he did. He ducked Margarito and Cotto at WW and went after the super featherweight P4P king!
Oh my god, he ducked Margarito, the P4P king and fighter of the decade and fought the journeyman Pacquiao...Oscar is such a duck!
Hoya did suck Marg.
Hoya wanted to fight Cotto but he lost to Marg.
Marg called him out numerous times, and then he decided to pick on Pacman, whom everyone thought was too small.
yep and he send mosley out to do his dirty work
In all fairness, the casual fans and mainstream public wanted Pac-De la Hoya. But the hardcore fans wanted De La Hoya-Margarito.
Can't blame Oscar though as the casual fans and mainstream audience bring in way more cash than the hardcore fans.
I am sure if the public really wanted one more fight, Oscar would probably give it to them. But even a blind man can see that Oscar belongs outside the ring, not in it.
Not to mention at the time the fight with Manny looked alot easier for Oscar than the fight with Tony.
More money to fight pac, plus at the time pac was perceived as a way easier opponent, it was a smart decision at the time.
Good words from the Golden Boy. He knows what's up.
Oscar might not have won all his battles, but he never ducked anyone and fought everyone he could.
Bull****.
He straight out ducked margarito for pacquaio because he thought pacquaio was going to be too small at 147.
GBP's the reason there isn't a tournament at 140 right now. Bradley and Alexander were on board already.
He just wants them to fight each other, so Khan only has to face one of them to get to the status he wants to be.
and the inventor of the tournament can rest peacefully
Yes he did. He ducked Margarito and Cotto at WW and went after the super featherweight P4P king!
huh? how long have you been watching boxing because neither one of these things never happened...
- Oscar made it clear time and time again after Mayweather announced his retirement in 07' that he wanted and would fight Cotto that coming december... He was assuming Cotto would walk pasted Margarito, which obviously he was wrong about
- Though Margarito did want the fight after, Oscar didn't take it not because he was scared... he questioned Margarito's drawing power, his star power, just his name at the time in general... the general public had no fkn clue who Antonio Margarito was even right after the Cotto fight... so instead opted for Manny Pacquiao who was an international superstar
I've never been much of fan of ODLH but a "ducker" is one thing you can never call the guy... he wasn't afraid of anyone and ducked no one legit; his resume speaks for itself
Chavez
Whitaker
Mosley
Trinidad
Hopkins
Vargas
Quartey
Mayorga
Mayweather
Pacquiao
one of the most insane resume's ever... who would go through that resume undefeated? no one, not one boxer in history could do that
it's sickening to my stomach that...
Bradley
Khan
Alexander
Maidana
Ortiz
have not fought one another (with the exception of ortiz/maidana which even happened by mistake)
I'm glad to see Bradley and Alexander is taking shape... hopefully Maidana and Khan do the same and Khan stops acting like a *****
Yes he did. He ducked Margarito and Cotto at WW and went after the super featherweight P4P king!
Hoya never duck Margas...He was fighting at Jr MW and met Pac at 147 cause Pac was coming up from LW...Pac was also the P4P king while Margas just had finish beating Cotto...IMO Hoya fought everyone they put in front of him...They don't make umm like Hoya and Mosley and to a degree Mayweather anymore...
Oscar didn't unify when it was his run, So why would He ask someone else to do what He didn't. I do agree with his statement, I just think He's the wrong messenger.

very well said..
oscar could have been the one to expose margo instead of shayne.. the pac fight is just a match-up nightmare for him.. he can't deal with the speed of his opponent..
the pac-delahoya fight was a much bigger fight than margarito-delahoya. Oscar always fought the fight the fans wanted the most. the dude fought Bernard Hopkins, he didnt duck anyone out of fear of getting beat he just fought the biggest fights out there.

Sure. Actually he only ducked Margarito. De La Hoya wanted to fight Cotto, but when he lost to Margarito, Oscar went after Pac.
He still should have fought Margarito, but my point is that Oscar paid his dues in his prime, unlike these 140 pounders who act like they are already stars who can call the shots.

Oscar always fought the biggest fight out there. name a big fight he turned down to make a smaller fight. Oscar in his prime is one of the greatest ever, now move along.
