How would boxing be today if he'd have fought Marg (who would likely be using plastered gloves), got beat (let's just say, though it would come to no surprise if the far more talented De La Hoya won). Pacquiao probably wouldn't even move up in weight without that kind of concession, and thus wouldn't be a 7 time world champ. No one would be talking about Pac-May right off the bat. Not to mention Marg would then run in to Mosley and get his ass kicked after getting caught with plaster in his gloves. Than Mayweather probably wouldn't have returned from his retirement. Man, nothing but bad news if De La Hoya lost to Marg (assuming he would lose)

Hoya did suck Marg. Hoya wanted to fight Cotto but he lost to Marg. Marg called him out numerous times, and then he decided to pick on Pacman, whom everyone thought was too small. yep and he send mosley out to do his dirty work

In all fairness, the casual fans and mainstream public wanted Pac-De la Hoya. But the hardcore fans wanted De La Hoya-Margarito. Can't blame Oscar though as the casual fans and mainstream audience bring in way more cash than the hardcore fans. I am sure if the public really wanted one more fight, Oscar would probably give it to them. But even a blind man can see that Oscar belongs outside the ring, not in it. Not to mention at the time the fight with Manny looked alot easier for Oscar than the fight with Tony. More money to fight pac, plus at the time pac was perceived as a way easier opponent, it was a smart decision at the time.

Oscar always fought the fight the fans wanted the most. the dude fought Bernard Hopkins, he didnt duck anyone out of fear of getting beat he just fought the biggest fights out there.
