I think Joe Goosen or Floyd Sr would be great for Gamboa. IMO that would be the perfect match up for him.
Even though his names has been linked with the elite at 126. He is about to start fighting the elites and if he wants to end up on top he needs to fix his flaws and needs a new trainer.
Sr is a defensive specialist. Something that Gamboa needs IMO. He has god giving talent. Very quick reflexes but Sr would teach him fundamentals.
Goosen has worked with a Cuban skilled fighter before in Casa and did a great job with him. He is a very underrated trainer and IMO would fit in well with Gamboa.
I don't even know if I give him 5 years...if he fights the wrong opponent he's in trouble...
I was thinking the same, giving Gamboa 5 years is being awfully generous when he's getting floored by journeymen now.
Like I said... a significant stretch..

Sr. retired from boxing and Goosen aint that techical trainer.
Salas or what ever his trainer s name is great trainer.
He was playing around way to much with both hands down, but he still won 2 belts with Salas in 5,6 fights
I still think that he will walk through Gamboa and specially Caballero.
If you believe Sr is really retired then I don't know what to say.
Goosen is a very good trainer and yes he is technical. He did great work with a pretty good technical fighter in Casa and also Corrales.
Only time will tell though.
:lol1: Calm down Reed, I was fukkin around...
Gamboa hasn't even beat any elite fighters yet...
I know you were
I really like Gamboa... but I also don't think he will go FAR in his career.
I give him about 5 years.... and that's probably a significant stretch..
I think RIGHT NOW.. he gives everyone in the divison absolute hell... win or lose... I personally think he can beat CAB... JUanMa could be 50-50.. but I'd favor Gamboa personally...
But I think his dominance in the ring will be shortlived...
Roy also likes to make history in the prime of his career..
Something I doubt Gamboa will achieve...
Thanks for the in depth post, though..

Gamboa's not Roy...Roy likes to take a nap when he gets knocked down...

Anyways it might be too late for Gamboa to change. Maybe a lost will make him want to change his style.
But, if and when he does lose and decided he needs a change. I still think Sr or Goosen could him out greatly if he really wants to dedicate himself.
Yes he is a super talent, he has great reflexes, speed, nice pop. But, he does have flaws that I think will hurt him against the elite.
He might think is easy and is bored. But, yet we haven't seen him against an elite to make that statement. To me Salido was the best fighter he has faced up to this point and he didn't look like a World beater to me. I think Juanma and Cab beats him. Hell I am not even confident that Gamboa could beat Elio Rojas who is no joke either.
I kind of see it the opposite of what Reed does. I see him being more of a front runner. Where if he can't overwhelm you then he doesn't know to exactly go about it. I give him credit though he did do a hell of a job in the last couple of rounds against Salido. But, then again when he punched Salido while he was in the ground. Made me think about his composure.
I agree with you for sure on the: If he can't overwhelm you he seems a bit lost...
I also agree with Eaner, on squaring up throwing flurries with his hands down... this will definitely lead to something disastrous in the coming future of his career...
yes i can...you see a lot of similarities as most do...and maybe, that's the reason for you being enamored with the guy
i said he's not Roy...his reflexes are NOT at that level where sloppiness can be covered by it...
So you draw the conclusion that the only reason I am making an argument on behalf of Gamboa is because I think he's just like Roy... and therefore, any argument I present is obviously biased and shouldn't even be considered because they have similarities, and I obviously have an agenda when discussing Gamboa.
This is the assumptive conclusion you brought on me.
Nobody else did... everyone else either agreed with what I said, or disagreed with what I said... and they posted how or why..
Not you.
Jro just disagreed with me... lets see how I treat that..

i never said he sucks...just because some people point out the guy has flaws, you get all defensive...the only one being close minded about it is you
I didn't get defensive at ANYONE who said he has "flaws"
I got defensive at this:
he's not the second coming of Roy, you can stop defending him now
Can you wrap your head around that?
Stop spamming dumbass.
His trainer is great.
He helped DANNY GREEN to move up and win WBA championship
and he helped to get GAMBOA two belts in few fights.
His trainer has trained Olympic champs since dinosaurs age.

Everyone has flaws, Reed. But Gamboa's been dropped four times by absolute nobodies and once by somebody. Five times in only 19 bouts is just alarming.
Irrefutable.
dude, dont get all butthurt because not everyone agrees with your 'oh he aint motivated' excuse for Gamboa's sloppiness...those are his tendencies
Don't act like a dick for no reason then.
Not everyone agrees with you either, so don't be a prick just because you think Gamboa sucks, and I don't.
