I didn't even watch the whole fight man. The kid has a world of talent and things would be ALOT easier for him if he just boxes and stays disciplined. Anyone else share these feelings?

At times it looked as though he could easily have outclassed Salido, but he didn't. Dunno why he hit Salido when he was down either. That seemed kinda vengeful to me. He did not appear apologetic and that was just wrong.
His trainer was just saying that cause the fight was not going Petersons way...You can tell in all of Peterson's movements, "boxing and moving" is not something that is worked on a whole lot in training.
Peterson did what he knows how to do, you know it's not just atomatic Coach...I happen to think he would have gotten laid out trying to stick to the game plan of "moving"...He doesn't have head movement for one, a jab? Yes, but foot movement? NO....
He should have just try to create more things off the jab. That would have suited his style better.
But hey, can't take credit from Rios...Dude banged him out!
Its not automatic, I agree. However, before I heard what his trainer said that came to my mind. He threw his jab early, but after about the 3rd or 4th round it wasn't existent anymore. Now, Peterson may not be a "boxer", but he needs to listen to his coach and make the adjustments. I personally think that would have helped him in there. And again, hats off to Rios, he fought a good tough fight and he can crack!
Two things Gamboa is trash and a ****ing loser. If I were Salido I would've stayed down when he hit him while he was on the floor. He is a cocky little **** who is going to get killed when he faces Juanma. Another thing Peterson....what a ****ing turd. I love it when they hype the black haad a hard life ****bags and they get lit by someone we hardly heard of. He is a prick. He was getting sparked and decided on low blowing this kid... How the **** do you just decide on continously low blowing? I mean he hit that poor kid like 8 times and all because he knew it was a matter of time when he was going to go night night. I hate him and I hope he gets creamed again whenever he "fights" then his pathetic excuse:" I'm going to have to assess the tape" loser you knew you were doing it intentional. Why didn't HBO do a skit on the Spanish kid? Dirty bastard:bryce:
His trainer was saying the same thing that I thought that he should have done. And, that was move a bit more and not stand in the center of the ring and trade. Rios loved that close up fight and was more suited for that. Rios is a tough dude and he not only threw good shots, but he took some as well.

Anthony Peterson is not a boxer, he is a banger type of a fighter...Can't do what you don't know...
Did he look comfortable to you trying to box? He sure as hell didn't to me...He looked lost, and may have gotten laid out trying to stick to moving. He simply did what he know how to do, he was just out gunned.
His jab is good, but that doesn't mean he can stick and move with it. I think he should have tried to set more things up off the jab though. Now that couls have had an impact in the fight.

Also, had Peterson boxed instead of trading, I thought he would have a much easier time with his opponent.

lol, he had no chance. Rios was just better.
No chance Jack? You just post to post alot of the times, I see. Rios was a tough customer and he fought great in close distance. However, had Peterson boxed him, he would have won the fight IMO. He got caught trying to trade and paid for it.
Eventually that shit will haunt him against a rangy guy that has a really good jab but until then he should be straigh, but rangy guys with good jabs tends to be a lot of guys kryptonite.
I agree with this.
I think we might disagree about some of the reasoning behind it though. To me, Gamboa leaves his chin up in the air, just waiting to be hit. He does not tuck his chin. It shouldn't be hard (for a world class opponent lol) to stick him with a good jab, nor to floor him with a left hook counter while he is flurrying. I really think his defense (chin up in the air while he flails away, sometimes with arm punches) and lack of technique is going to catch up with him. I don't think he can beat that really tall gentleman no one wants to fight. Juanma would probably knock him out as well.
It's a shame, because he has great handspeed and athleticism. The way I see it, he will never be very technically sound. He spent way too much time as an amateur, fighting stiffs while wearing headgear. You can't teach an old dog new tricks.
I think he needs to vacate those belts and take some time to be brought up right
he has way too may flaws at this point and will get trucked agaisnt the upper echelon
I thought Gamboa won this fight pretty easily. Not saying he doesn't need work but I think he beats Juanma and some other guys just as easy.

The thing which annoiyed me was that it was a unification fight, and he just looked disintrested,he would throw a good punch which stunned his opponent and back up with his hands down rather then following up,he was fighting bored and in the proccess made me bored at times, how can i put it? he was fighting with a bad attitude
Gamboa just lacks the length to fight like that and make it look easy, he has great attributes but he is lacking in range (height/reach) so he has to put himself in danger to get off in most cases. Add to that he is aggressive so he really does not make taller guys give up their height.

Gamboa is fine. This is the way he fights. He's going to beat Juanma if they ever fight. You just can't teach talent like that. He fights with his hands down because he can.
ive watched him since he first turned pro..hell most of use on here have...remember when he first started how bad his balance was..and thats because hes so damn fast and athletic he can throw punches from odd angles so fast...if you catch him in between punches most of the time he'll be off balance..with great speed comes great responsibility..lol..you gotta have timing with your speed and hes getting better but he gotta keep those hands up..floyd,calzaghe and prime roy got away with it cause they had a good since of distance and great timing
Good post Larry, you are spot on. I agree.
I think he is in a no win situation coach. People like the way he fights when he does it recklessly. I think if he fights technically it wouldn't be fair or people would say he is boring(not me tho. I won't him to keep his got dam hands up).
I agree with you. Some like that, I don't and as I said, if he fought more disciplined but was still aggressive AND under control, he would be VERY hard to beat. Very.
Gamboa knows he has special gifts and the fight was easy. I agree I wish he would fight a more disciplined and controlled fight because he would absolutely pick people apart and break them down. It would also make him look better. That is the part I don't think has registered with Gamboa yet. Once Gamboa learns that with a little discipline and control he look that much more polished and better to get him more big fights and money he will be even more of a force to reckon with.
The Peterson bros are crazy to me. Lamont the one who lost to Bradley and Anthony the one who just lost both in their biggest fights didn't fight in the styles that would have given them the best chance to win. It was crazy I mean how can both brothers do the exact opposite of what puts them in the best position to win? As I have stated 2 other times today Rios weighing 151 on fight night is BULLSH!T!!!!
Great post all around.
Imo Gamboa needs to work on his timing and use the jab more often and the straight. He comes in with hooks waaaaaaaaaaay to much for my liking.
Yes, I think this goes back to him being a bit more disciplined. I mean, he has been and will be much more athletic than his opponent and I think he uses that and gets away with alot of stuff. I like him, I really do. But, as I told Larry, I would hate for him to get knocked out by someone he was supposed to dominate because of his own recklessness.

Juan Manuel Marquez beat Derrick Gainer for the WBA Super World Featherweight title.
Marquez got stripped from the IBF and he became the WBA World Featherweight right before he fought Chris John.
Gamboa won the "interimn" WBA title. A few months later WBA elevates Chris John to Super and Gamboa to regular
