Only days prior to the Anthony Peterson bout, in a scathing verbal assault on Victor Ortiz, Brandon Rios pulls no punches during his interview with Boxing Scene's own top-notch radio show, Leave It In The Ring. The history behind his dispute with Ortiz may be revealed in a future episode of the show.

And for everyone saying Ortiz would beat Rios remember that Rios has proven that he can pull through a war while Ortiz hasn't.
What war? Last Saturday wasnt a war for Rio's. He just walked down someone who wasnt a threat to him. A war is when the opponent in front of him has the power to hurt him.
Ortiz vs Maidana was a war, both had power and both hurt each other. Yeah Ortiz quit but he wins in a rematch but that's another story. Honestly I don't thing Rios can handle the power of Ortiz. Rios defense wasn't impenetrable, Peterson hit him easily but didn't possess any power for Rios to respect so Rios went for the kill.
Thanks for correcting me
anyways
what people fail to understand about Da Nard is that you have a lot of proud mexicans who come from Field working parents and a lot of latino gang members.
Bring in smiley faec Ortiz who is a skater and he wont be accepted include his country background and the latinos in this community wont like nor understand where he is coming from
That answer is completely different from your other one. Plus not all sons of field workers act that way, I seen some rockers from field workers that hang out with white people. That's like saying everyone from East Los has to be gangster, and proud Mexican. I've lived in border cities and part time in Mexico, and non gangsters are not excluded. Maybe ortiz didn't fit in with with that crowd, because remember Vargas was arrogant, and the garcias do look kinda gangster-ish. Just my opinion. I have no inside info, or I don't know anyone from that camp.
I think Floyd and Rios situation is quite different. Not even comparable. Apples and oranges.
.
I don't care if its peaches and cream,
they both came off as childish and ignorant.
"white boy surfer" "surfing is for faqs". Thats an incredibly childish view on things. And this is coming from a guy named "Brandon". About as white a name as it gets. I just wonder if he gives his parents that much **** about giving him a "white" name.
The circumstances surrounding them might be different, but in both cases,
both guys look like jackasses.

So they're basically ignorant.
Yes Rios looked good against an overrated Peterson with very little power at the elite levels...nothing in that fight showed me he can beat Ortiz, Rios has a very shaky defense when he's digging to the body......of coarse that went unnoticed since Peterson didn't have the power to make him respect his shots.....but it's going to be a different story against the bigger and more accurate Ortiz
I remember reading Dougie's mailbag and he had said in the lead up to the Maidana fight that it was such an interesting matchup due to the fact there was some talk around the gyms in CA that Ortiz's chin was questionable.
That is right. I remember reading that mailbag. So it was always questions about Ortiz.
Dude sounds like an idiot. I don't know the whole story behind it all, but I really don't see much difference between this childish rant and Floyds. I'm not even a fan of Victors, but this Rios kid came off sounding like a jealous and emotional woman.
I think Floyd and Rios situation is quite different. Not even comparable. Apples and oranges.
yeah there are quite a few examples of issues with his work ethic with his treatment of the people around him and Garcia the way he and his brother acted towards the people of Oxnard etc etc
to be honest people in here are acting like Rios is the ass but for the most part the people I know tell totally different stories about who the ass is and who the honest person is
it aint vic
I don't get why people are so upset with Rios. Is not like Rios went out of his way to talk crap about Ortiz. If I am not mistaken both Peterson and Rios were in the boxing truth radio show discussing their upcoming fight. Rios was asked a question about Ortiz. If it is a legit beef, and Rios doesn't like the guy then he gave his honest answer.
I could understand why fans would be upset with Rios. If Rios would of went out of his way to talk about Ortiz if he would of done a Ustream or youtube video just talking mess about Ortiz. Then I could see why people think Rios was acting like an ass. But, it was an interview and was asked a question from my understanding and gave his honest answer.
I don't have a problem with what he said at all.
Forced by Oscar and Golden Boy???? You obviously don't know that Robert Garcia brought Ortiz and Rios along to Oxnard a long time before they were known and Ortiz was with Top Rank before joining GBP so I don't know know what your talking about.
Thanks for correcting me

gained me as a fan last night, lost me this morning
this unpolished motherfukker would get murked by Ortiz
Mak, you read my mind with this one. I think that Ortiz learned alot from the Maidana fight, you could see that in the Campbell fight, now if he could put it together with what he had before the Maidana fight he would kill Rios.
yeah there are quite a few examples of issues with his work ethic with his treatment of the people around him and Garcia the way he and his brother acted towards the people of Oxnard etc etc

WEll him and his brother Temo were cool with me and Im from Da Nard
you have to understand too he didnt want to come here but was kinda forced by Oscar and Golden Boy. He like any young dude likes to talk **** and have fun. The only thing bad about him I would say is that he tends to slack off in the gym and thats coming from his brothers mouth
but all in all they are both super cool in my book
But, I don't think the Maidana fight surprised a lot of people who knew about Ortiz gym work.
I remember reading even before the Maidana fight that Ortiz chin, heart, and toughness were questioned. I think Gabe and Steve talked about it on their maxboxing show once.

it's waaaay more than that
he and Roberto have both told me stories on Vic and the character he really is and to be honest the Maidana fight did not surprise either guy.
it's a very legit beef not made up at all

It all stems from beef between Vargas and Ortiz. Their paths cross on occasion and for whatever reason Vargas felt disrespected or felt Ortiz owed him more respect than what he felt he received. Rios being a Vargas boy simply picks it up from there along with their history in the amateurs. It's always something petty like that that makes you say "thats it?". Of course it doesn't help that Vic is a GBP kid
there's more
Ah, the DLH/Vargas rivalry lives on through their prospects
Would be funny if it turned into the Hatfield-McCoy of boxing with Ortiz and Rios then passing it down to other young boxers as they get older and so on :lol1:
Rios is a Top Rank fight not with Vargas Entertainment. He just brought him in because they are friends
Most people feel he should have never even mentioned 138. Especially considering what he weighed coming into the ring against Peterson.
But, you do understand that this interview was before the Peterson right? So he still hadn't weigh 151 on fight night since it was 2 days before fight night.
At the post fighter interview he said 138 or 140 or whatever.
Basically just saying he doesn't care and wants to fight. And, he would go to 140 to do it.
It's obviously personal between these two. I think it has to do with Ortiz firing Robert Garcia before the Maidana fight. Garcia had brought Ortiz out to Cali as a teen and even assumed legal guardianship of him as he guided his career.
it's waaaay more than that
he and Roberto have both told me stories on Vic and the character he really is and to be honest the Maidana fight did not surprise either guy.

Did you guys not watch the post fight interview with Larry Merchant?
For the last time he said he would go to 140. He don't care he just wants to fight Ortiz.

why make ortiz come down to 138. thats some bullsh!t if he wanna fight then go up to 140!
Did you guys not watch the post fight interview with Larry Merchant?
For the last time he said he would go to 140. He don't care he just wants to fight Ortiz.
yeah i agree
ortiz is by far a better boxer and has some power to boot there's no way he gets dragged into the kind of fight peterson did on saturday ortiz is way too skilled for rios
Why not?
Ortiz was way too skilled for Maidana. Yet Maidana dragged him into that kind of fight. Is Maidana more skilled than Rios?
I agree that Ortiz might be too skilled, he might be too big, might punch too hard, and ultimately beat Rios.
However, Rios is also skilled and also has the pressure and style to drag Ortiz in that kind of fight.
The thing with me is that I am still not sure about Rios heart and toughness even though I think he has plenty. I need to see a fight where he does get push to the wall and see how he reacts. However, I already seen how Ortiz reacted when it happened to him.
So if somehow it becomes a war as of right now I would favor Rios. Until Rios shows me that he can't handle it. Ortiz would have to outbox him to win however he could also get dragged into a fight. It has happened before and it can happen again.
