it depends, you have heard the old phrase "styles make fights" and so forth is a true statement.
Believe it or not there are even fighters who have fought in there prime and didn't even put in a 100% training and still lose i.e wilfred benitez is a great example. Heart is a big factor as well.
By the way, welcome to boxingscene.com
thanks for the welcome and input
so basically it depends on which was the better fighter on the night of the fight. This makes much more sense because i have heard quite a few boxers say they lost to the better man that night and in my opinion that is very respectable
i appreciate the reply to my first post. In my opinion and thats just what it is if every fighter fought each other in their prime who would lose? It makes me think alot

it means when you have peaked in skill, youth and athaletic ability. It's rare you would hear a boxer make an excuse for being past his prime it's usually his fans that do it for him.

I don't even think youth factors in. It's whenever a fighter is at his best point of skill, smarts, and athleticism combined. You can be 37 and be prime if you retain enough athleticism to go along with much better ring smarts and skill than you had at 30.
