Which brings me to my second point: Just as we sometimes learn more about a person on the front end of a controversy than the back, sometimes it's the back end that reveals the ugly truth. In this case, the truth is Mayweather's being given a pass because he's black.
Not long after Schlessinger made her remarks, Rev. Al Sharpton could be seen ripping her to shreds on CNN and suggesting sponsors pull ads from her show. I've yet to hear a Sharpton comment regarding Mayweather. I've yet to hear him call for a boycott of any of his future fights or the sponsors tied to him.
The same goes for the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who didn't have a problem inserting himself in the conversation this summer when Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert went off on LeBron James after the King moved his throne to Miami. Jackson implied Gilbert's comments were laced with racist undertones. He even demanded a sit-down with the owner. I've yet to see Jackson insert himself into the Mayweather conversation or publicly request a similar meeting.
...
Mayweather's comments are as troublesome as Schlessingers', but he is being treated differently because he's black.
Period.
And if he were being treated honestly, black man or not, we would be hearing denunciations from Jackson, Sharpton and the NAACP. (The National Federation of Filipino American Associations provided a lead for them today.) I'm not playing devil's advocate; I'm advocating for equality -- but in the true sense of the word. Whites don't hold the patent on being racially insensitive, just as blacks are not the only group of people to be discriminated against in this country.
...
Mayweather should not be judged by the color of his skin, but by the content of his YouTube comments. If a half-hearted apology was not enough to spare Imus, Schlessinger, et al, then it shouldn't spare him.
And if it does, then what does that say about us?

The author of the article will be a giving a pass for writing this article...because he is black. If a white person wrote this, there would be public outcry.
Works both ways, buddy.
I don't think Mayweather got a pass, I didn't condone his comments and I'm sure a the majority of people didn't agree with his sentiments. I even created a thread to apologize and express my dismay. For my trouble I was insulted and called an "uncle tom" for trying to make nice with the pinoy's. Since when is it wrong to just be nice? So the only reason I can see people bringing this topic up over and over again is because they don't want it to die. While I think Mayweather's comments were out of line and betray some deep seated prejudiced beliefs, I don't think we need to keep banging our heads against the wall over it. To the people who think Floyd was given a pass by whom? Black people don't have the pull or power in this country to give anybody a "pass", even when warranted.
whites are the ones that started racism (as we know it) in this country and are the ones that have maintained it up until this point (check foxnews for examples).
American whites are the one that created racist laws and expected minorities to abide by them (remember jim crow?).
I don't recall any african americans legislating racist laws forbidding whites to vote, read or forcing them to sit in the rear of public trains, buses, etc...
I don't recall any african americans hanging innocent white men from trees, lynching them, raping and destroying their family structures.
The last i checked blacks aren't importing drugs into affluent white neighborhoods. Conversely, how is the coke getting into the ghettos of america? The racist law makers don't care about that though. What they care about is creating petty drug laws that are meant to lock up young black males and remove them from the streets. Whites don't have to deal with **** like that. Yet some of ya'll want to complain about mayweather's rant. Lol!
The last i checked the top 10 wealthiest humans in america are all white.
When i get on xbox live later on tonite, guess who's probably going to be calling me a n (racial slur) for no reason? Some racist ass white boy that's who. Why don't i have these issues with other races of people?
I'm 33 years old and have consistently dealt with or observed racism from whites to just about every other race.
Racism is still overtly practiced in major cities in the us (chicago, boston).
Did i mention the racism blacks have to put up with from the police department as well?
So to the few butt hurt, whiny, white guys in this thread complaining about blacks can get away with saying racist things, get over it!
That's one of the few things blacks are allowed to get away with in this country without being totally crucified or punished. The playing field between blacks and whites are still far from being even, so complaining about mayweather not being punished for his comments is ignorant.
There are bigger issues going on in this country regarding race than mayweather's comments regarding manny pac.
Howard stern, mancow muller, bill o'reilly, rush limbaugh, etc... Consistently talk bad about black people, make fun of black people and harshly judge black people, yet they're still making their money and for the most part have gone unpunished.
I bet i cant find one white guy that would like to change races with a black person. Not one! I wonder why? The answer is that most white people know exactly how racist and evil their own people can be towards black people.
bump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This will more than likely be ignored. Posting the truth and making sense is against what 95% of the people do here.
People here can't tell the difference between a stereotype and racism so there is no way that the majority will understand what you just typed. Good that you said though!!!!
For the last time, only white people have to watch their racism, everyone else gets a free pass.
As a white man, I'll take that deal.
This is has to be sarcasm.
It's by far too retarded a comment to be taken at face value.
What was Mel Gibson's punishment for his racist comments?
What was Glen Beck's punishment for any of his racist comments towards President Obama?
Mel Gibson's latest movies flopped and apparently people in the movie industry are no longer willing to work with him.
Beck lost a lot of sponsors who withdrew their support of him and his ratings dropped.
What was Mel Gibson's punishment for his racist comments?
What was Glen Beck's punishment for any of his racist comments towards President Obama?
I think Gibson was dropped by William Morris.
Imus was crucified because he is white and he made a comment on black women. Key words white on black
a black person can comment on whomever they choose but GOD forbid anyone but a black person make a negative comment on a black person

Nah, he got a pass because he was black. Last I remember Don Imus (Who is a POS make no mistake) was crucified for his comments, and rightfully so.

Has the famous racial police Sharpton and Jesse Jackson say anything about this rant yet?
nope.. they're on vacation too.

I thought boxing writers took him to task for his comments. Maybe not the mainstream media but "F" them. The boxing media didn't give him a pass.
The only people that gave him a pass and still do are his dickriders.
i would love for pac to fire back with racist comments towards floyd just so i can see rev jesse jackson and al sharpton give us their famous teachable moment on cnn
