I have a fun hypothetical match-up here.
If the Floyd from 130 (or at least the lower weights) were to meet in the middle and fight the 147 current Floyd, which version do you think takes it?
In my opinion I think the 147 Floyd would win. Overall at 147 he's had more experience fighting different styles of fights, and I believe he would have an easier time falling into his niche. No doubt I think the younger version of Floyd would get in some fast sneaky shots, because he was a bit more fast and fleet footed then. Neither version I believe gets KO'd because both are too cautious and defensive to allow that.
So I have the 147 Floyd by SD/UD. What's your take?
Floyd at 135 will probably take it. I mean that's the weight he made a name of himself right?
If going by popularity, I'd probably say that happened when he fought Oscar. For starting to raise eyebrows in the Boxing world by moving up weight classes, yeah I guess 135 is where it started.
The funny thing is, I'd say the 135 Floyd seemed the most vulnerable. I know that sounds like a joke, but he was still learning opponents and now had to deal with bigger people. Heh.. in theory at the very least.
the thing is, at light welterweight, he reached almost a perfect balance of size compared to the other top fighters in the division, hand/ foot speed, reflexes, stamina (went a hard-fought 12 rounds toe to toe with corley), power (important for popularity), defense (slipping punches and utilizing the shell), combination punching, fearlessness in engaging AND dedication to his craft (sparring 15min rounds for the gatti fight).
it's just a shame that the big money fights weren't at 140 at that time and he didn't have his current popularity.
Yeah I definitely get what you mean. With that said, it's interesting to see how his style adapts to each weight class.
Pertaining to the topic; whichever version you want to pit against each other, the one thing you can't take away is his ring intelligence.
Nice analysis.
Yeah, it'd be hard to go against Floyd from light welterweight. He didn't have that many fights there, but the few fights he had there were impressive.

i think this fight is dang near dead even.
at 130/ 135, floyd had the hand-speed, combinations and defensive slickness.
at 147, he has displayed excellent timing, ability to kill work-rates and better "solid" defense (as in less slipping of punches and more blocking/ parrying).
in the end, i think "pretty boy" beats "money" off of his activity, which will be more eye catching to the judges.
that said, "war" floyd from light welterweight, which i believe was when he entered his prime and ideal weight class, beats them both.
Nice analysis.

the 147 Floyd would view the 135 Floyd as too much of a threat...he would probably accuse his 135 self of roids then go on vacation
:haha: This sums it up pretty good.
