From Doug Fischer's Monday Mailbag:
Hello Dougie,
What's up? I got a new interesting top 5 for you: Top five boxers with the worst fans. Ciao! -- Alex
LOL. This is a good one. Top 5 fighters with worst fans that I have experienced during my tenure as an internet boxing scribe:
1. Oscar De La Hoya (“My boss” had a legion of hyper-sensitive fans, aptly nicknamed “Golden Girls,” who would claim that anyone who criticized their golden boy was either jealous or racist).
2. Mike Tyson (the S.O.B.’s that Tyson attracted were certifiable; I’ve never been threatened with violence and rape via email as much as I was when I would criticize their beloved anti-hero near the end of the former heavyweight champ’s wild career).
3. Roy Jones Jr. (“Superman’s” followers -- nicknamed “Jonestown” by Steve Kim because they happily guzzled HBO’s Kool-aide hype -- were as obnoxious and ignorant of boxing history as Floyd Mayweather’s drones, only there were A LOT more of them).
4. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (What they lack in numbers the “Money-grubbers” -- I just made that nickname up, you like it? -- make up with sheer stupidity; confidently parroting their undefeated king’s claims that he is the best fighter anyone has ever seen with zero hope or intent of backing those words up).
5. Felix Trinidad (oh man, at the apex of Tito’s career, late 1999-through-mid-2001, his fans, called “Trinidiots” by some message boarders, were almost insufferable; they believed their hero could do no wrong and they’d damn anyone to hell who thought otherwise).
Honorable mention: fans of the Klitschko brothers during the early part of the last decade, and Pacquiao’s internet/boxing forum maniacs. I’ve been hit by hundreds of the latter after I had the “audacity” to state that Pacquaio would have lost to hall of famers Wilfredo Gomez (at 122 pounds), Sal Sanchez (at featherweight), Roberto Duran (at lightweight) and Aaron Pryor (at 140) in a column before the Ricky Hatton fight. They would have made my top five if I hadn’t been able to quiet most of them just by asking if they’ve actually seen those four greats fight. Most admitted that they hadn’t and backed off, which was a pleasant surprise. I wouldn’t have received that kind of response from Jones’ and Mayweather’s fans. I don’t even want to think about what Tyson’s fans would have said. http://www.ringtv.com/blog/2289/dougies_massive_monday_mailbag/
:lol1: at Tyson fans
vacation mafia,
I dont know how they put so much weight on floyds word and will believe him after with all his BS.
They talk shiet about pacquiao, including floyd, but honestly WTH did he do wrong or say to them.- Just looking at it from unbiased perspective
Since I've started really posting and reading on boxing forums, the top half-dozen (in no order) would be the deluded fans of:
Mike Tyson: It'd be 2004 and people would swear that Tyson could rule the division for years if he reunited with Kevin Rooney.
The Klitschkos: Any criticism towards them has 100% to do with racism or xenophobia, nothing to do with facts or reasonable viewpoints.
Manny Pacquiao: Some of them like to pull the race/xenophobia card too. Many others just know fukk all about boxing and its history, they don't even respect the sport, they just like Manny.
Felix Trinidad: Back in 2000-01, oh for fukk's sake they were delusional. Someone seriously tried to argue that Tito had more physical gifts and athleticism than Roy Jones Jr. Guys that start facing better opposition after losing to Trinidad were "ruined" by Tito, it had nothing to do with facing better opposition. "Yori Boy Campas was 50-something and 0 when he faced Tito, then he started losing....Tito ruined him!!" Yeah, it had nothing to do with the fact that he was beating the Roger Turners and faded Jorge Vacas of the world and then started facing guys like Tito, Jose Luis Lopez, Fernando Vargas, and Oscar De La Hoya.
Floyd Mayweather: Bragging about another man's money? How pathetic can you be?
Oscar De La Hoya: People have actually claimed that he clearly beat Ike Quartey, Pernell Whitaker, Floyd Mayweather, and Felix Sturm, and then in the next sentence claimed that Felix Trinidad and Shane Mosley 2 were the worst robberies in boxing history. And then they use Compubox as "proof". Another good one is "Oscar cleaned out the top guys at 135".
Man-crushes? Living vicariously through another person you've never met before? Is that what's hot in the streets?
Apparently you guys never were at MSG when Golota fought, talk about a bad fan base that even if you cheered against Andrew you had to fight even with security there.
Hardcore Pac fans, never seen nothing like this in all my years watching the sport. It is almost a cult, very sensitive creatures
except for when they were gettin their azz whooped by riddick bowe's fan base lol.
Good. Besides Sergio's looks, what made you a fan of his?
You really are gay :nonono:
When Oscar ducked him is when I was a fan. He was Oscar mandatory for the WBC belt and Oscar did his shady shit not to defend his title against Sergio. Ever since then I followed Martinez career and liked his style.
I never heard you about it. It seems like youre just claiming to be a fan of his before all we were. Just be honest. Did you start being a fan of his after Williams? Theres plenty of Sergio for us all. No need to pretend youre the biggest fan.
Yea, you right I became a fan after he lost a fight.
Floyd fans are the worst. Never before in the history of boxing has a fan base all lived vicariously through a fighter the way they do. They imagine that Floyd's skills, money, cars, mansions etc. are theirs as well, so they imitate and defend all his despicable antics.
The Martinez fanbase sounds like the Oscar fanbase Jro described.
The Sexy talk and the overrating.
That is just a bunch of gayness. First I thought some of Martinez fans were joking. They started saying it when Sergio broke on to the scene. As a Martinez fan I was like OK whatever. But, till this day they still keep talking about his looks. And, that's :gay:

You wouldn't give a damn if he wouldn't have taken it to your boy in the way he did. :p
This made me laugh, for some reason. I know "Cottards"/"Cotto stans" were a pretty sorry bunch around here prior to the Pacquiao loss, but was it really that bad in the Trinidad days? :laff2:
As a fellow Tito nuthugger. There was a time when I even thought Tito might had a chance against a prime Roy Jones. After he destroyed Joppy there was talks of maybe going past SRR. You know how some call Pac top 5 ATG that is what it was back then when Tito fans spoke of him. Then came the Hopkins fight and brought everybody back to Earth. Hell that is when I realized no man is unbeatable.
5. Felix Trinidad (oh man, at the apex of Tito’s career, late 1999-through-mid-2001, his fans, called “Trinidiots” by some message boarders, were almost insufferable; they believed their hero could do no wrong and they’d damn anyone to hell who thought otherwise).

Borehards fans.
He wasn't always boring. There was a time when he was more exciting in the sense that he was willing to trade punches in the pocket, and not simply use his riding the bike tactic that he became accustomed to in his older age. Smart pugilist, he knew he wasn't the same young brawling fighter.
Also, your signature: Larry is a single dad and stays out of trouble by cruising this site. I don't see the problem with that either.

top 5 should read:
1.pac fans
2.floyd fans
3.pac fans
4.pac fans
5.pac fans
no fanbase of any current fighter even touches pac/floyd fans when it comes to stupidity...but pacs fanbase is on another level of ignorance. i've suffered through the ravings of de la hoya/trinidad/jones/mayweather nuthuggers...but never have i seen the likes of some of these "pactards".
