Once upon a time Floyd said that the reason he wasn't as popular as DLH was because he was black. He also gave that same reason of why he isn't the most popular sports star in America. Which is kind of idiotic when you think about it because the biggest sports star in America every single year Are black....
Floyd is a product of his upbringing, imagine being raised by Floyd Sr. and his uncle Roger? I mean there's a reason this dude is so mentally fuked up and is so emotionally unstable.
When I watched the 24/7 between him and DLH, I noticed something that very few probably noticed. While Mayweather was walking around with 50K in cash in his pocket and a watch and chain that were worth 1 million dollars, DLH was walking around in jeans and a polo shirt with a leather wrist band watch.
It was amazing to me how the kid from the REAL hood (DLH) was walking around more humble than the supposedly hood kid in Mayweather who in reality was raised most of his life in Michigan suburbs....
This latest rant about Pacquaio is the classic example of why America has never embraced him and why he's not a cross over success like DLH, Tiger Woods, Shaq etc. He shows no class and no respect towards others while simultaneously screaming about how nobody respects him.
To those of you that say he's "Keeping it real" all you are doing is perpetuating the ignorant stereotype that young black kids like Mayweather give off to the rest of the world and then wonder why nobody takes them seriously. The sad thing is, millions of young kids see this and emulate it and think that's being "real" or what a real tough guy should act like. When in actuality it takes more of a man to come from where Pacquaio comes from, smile all the time and take care of his own people and the people around him the way he does.
Like I have said before, Floyd is an amazing fighter, his skills and work ethic cannot be denied but him as a person leaves a lot to be desired. He's classless like his father and uncle before him. It was JCC who shut his uncles mouth and hopefully Pac can shut the huge mouth of Mayweather.
It does make me laugh though when Floyd was saying nothing and the fight was falling apart the second time and everyone was wanting Floyd to say some stuff.
Everyone should know damn well that nothing construtive would come out of Floyd's mouth when he opened it.
He even managed to exceed my expectation.
http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=389893 53% of boxingscene would agree with that.
Mayweather fought the best also. Personality is not what fighters are judged on, what they do in the ring is. Mayweather is 41-0, thats more important than any jokes he cracks on ustream.
Mayweather is hated because of just how good he is. If people didnt rate his ability they would not buy the fight.
Well a large % of them are probably your ALT accounts Burner Lol, not to mention, many of the people who voted, will tend to rep the contemporary fighter more cause he is fresh in their mind, a lot those posters are probably young, which a lot of posters on this forum tend to be, with the vast majority who dont take time out to watch old time great fighters, which is evident by the people who dont even understand what type of style Whitaker/Hagler really had, however, with all that said, it makes no difference how skilled you are, who you have beaten, at what point in their career you have beaten them, is all that counts.
Mayweather has never fought an elite prime fighter.
Like i said, its not about whether the people ranking him have the best of intention when ranking him, my argument is, that in the back their mind, sublimally, that will effect where they place him, particularly if they are not a fan, now they might be trying to be impartial, however it might still play a roll in where they place him, only they may not eve know its effecting their decision, its human nature to rep people you like more, even if you dont realize your doing it.
He is hated cause he does not prove his worth against the best consistently, like other fighters do, if he fought the best and was considered the best, people would celebrate him, irrespective of whether he was still being a knob.
fair enough, we can go on about floyd being this and that, he's better off being a mute.........
Well when his side said nothing people bashed them also no?
Floyd certainly doesn't say worthwhile stuff very often though.
Floyd does what he does outside the ring, he is full of **** that is plain for all to see. Low brow works quite well since there are more dumb people than intelligent.
Still you have to seperate who Floyd is from what he does as an athlete, even if he doesn't seperate there is a difference between Floyd Mayweather the man and Floyd Mayweather the fighter.
For example Floyd in the ring shows zero mental weakness but outside the ring you can clearly see insecurity, he is at home in the ring with a mic in his face he plays a role.
fair enough, we can go on about floyd being this and that, he's better off being a mute.........
Whitaker was never as big as Mayweather. And he's my favorite fighter.
I didn't say he was.
But he was big for his day.
He certainly wasn't a crossover star like a De la Hoya, or a Mayweather ; but endorsements and **** like that weren't the norm back them.
Commercials were still somewhat new at that point.
yes, intelligent people, floyd is far from intelligent, and the people he's playing to, or down to? are not intelligent, because the people who are intelligent, don't fall for it, and know what it is, calling it what it is, ignorance/stupidity/unintelligible.........
didn't saying anything about people being great vs not being great, vs this and that.
i'm pointing out that floyd ISNT SEPARATING his sport from his who he is, he's using this stuff to try and sell his position in the sport. and his vehicle is low level stupidity, playing unoriginal stereotypical racism which isnt even his own thought construct..............

I disagree because to me an intelligent person seperates what an athlete does in their field from the man they are.
Being a great person does not make you a great athlete and being a great athlete does not make you a great person.

No, I get what you're saying but you also are assuming Mayweather is done fighting great fighters. Mayweather at the lower weights took on steep competition, moved up many weights, and also performed well in those matchups outside of his natural weight(a true test of a great fighter imo). On top of all that we can assume he isn't done fighting, so he might enhance the resume. Lets say he beats Pac for debates sake, that win will stand out more than any crazy stuff he has ever said.
Even if he was to retire today, most would consider him a top 30 or so fighter of all time. Racist talk like this is fresh in our minds today but 50 years from now it will likely fade or not rub us in such a bad way. Sure, people will say, "oh, he was a mean guy" but they will also say look at his win against Mosley. It's easy right now to remember Shane as an older guy, but down the line that stuff won't be remembered as easily and people will look back and say Mosley was just coming out a great win against Margarito.
As for your question, of course people will knock him but anyone that matters and puts their personal feelings to the side will always give that guy the benefit of the doubt. To go back to my Ty Cobb comment, people know about his past but due to his great career they still put him in the top 5 of all time. Things like this may be annoying but I don't think it really irks people that much in retrospect.
Well Pacquiao is the only legitimate great fighter left to fight imo, unless you can think of more, plus, Mayweather does not have the cojones to step in their with a young buck who could potentially pose problems for him, so i dont see how much more he will enhance his legacy.
One thing people will still measure that Mosley win on, no matter how far in the future we go, is that Shane was nearly 40, thats commonsense. Also, Mosley was also coming off a long inactive period before coming into that fight, plus, when your that age, its not about what you did in your last fight, its about when age caught up with you, how much you had left in that particular fight, which is Shane's case, was not a lot.
Im not saying whether they will they be man enough to put their grievances aside and rank him accordingly, im saying, with the best intentions in mind, might his personality, primprima-donna attitude, perceived ducking, still, subliminally, effect where he is placed?
What about Pernell Whitaker?
He was a pretty damn big star in the boxing sense, even had some crossover appeal, too BITD.
He was just as skilled as Floyd. Didn't make as much money, but salary was different back then, and endorsements were still relatively new to boxing at that time.
But he had crossover success to the general sports audience, and he never played the role of a dickhead.
Whitaker was never as big as Mayweather. And he's my favorite fighter.
I disagree because to me an intelligent person seperates what an athlete does in their field from the man they are.
Being a great person does not make you a great athlete and being a great athlete does not make you a great person.
I'll add that people don't watch boxers to educate themselves.
Tase I get you hate him for some reason but lets be serious bro. The dude just raked in over 40 Million bucks in 36 minutes man.
Hes rich as hell. Irresponsible and immature yes. Broke. Not quite man.
His methods do work.
You can be rich and be an horrible person, according to Flomos when it comes about Pacquiao....Hum sorry....I meant Poochiao.
people only like stupid from sports figures or celebrities when it's funny. floyd is far from funny, he's down right lame.
it's obvious to all of us that floyd is not a wordsmith, far from it, actually, the EXACT OPPOSITE, it's really painful to hear and watch. he has a low level IQ with his childlike overacting and attention whoring, nothing floyd has ever said or done has been original, it's all a scripted act that floyd thinks is clever and smart and attention getting, and for a small part it is attention grabbing, but it's only the attention of those with the same IQ level he's targeting. he's not trying to gather fans from the "other side" being a cross over star.
he's playing to people who don't think for themselves, he's playing to people with low level IQ's such as himself, and that pool of people is small compared to the rest of the world.
You can include yourself in the " low IQ group because he obviously got your attention. The numerous threads on the topic means there are a lot of dumb people her.
Calzaghe lost to Hopkins and Reid.
Yeah,Calslappys haters have him losing every closed fight he had.
But Hopkins and Reid didn't enough to claim a clear win.

REAAAALLLLL TALLLLKKKKKK!!!!!!
Accurate,unbiased and very smart post.
Mayweather will be remembered as the most skilled fighter of all time.
Yes he will have his haters, but Ali had haters and probably still does to this very day yet hes the GOAT. If Mayweather was as hated as you make out, he wouldnt be doing 1 mill+ PPV every fight.
Mayweather really is 2nd to only Ali, noone else has dominated boxing the way he has.
Im afraid not, only by a small, irrelevant, pocket of Flomo's.
There is no comparision between Mayweather and any other fighter, Ali fought the best, was seen as funny and charismatic, a historical figure, not a rude, loud mouth chicken.
Mayweather makes that BECAUSE! he is hated Lol
Like i said, you believe that, your a small voice in a crowd full of people that disagree.
Not everybody that watches Mayweather " pays to see him lose ".That's one of the most stupid misinformed comments I've read here.
Did I say "everybody"? Re-read the post, idiot.
But he's not huge, not in the cross over sense. He makes a lot of money in boxing but he doesn't get the sponsorships you would think a guy like him would get and there's a reason for that.
If Sugar ray Leonard was in his prime in todays day and age, he would be bigger than even DLH was because of who he was.
It's one thing to play the "bad guy" but that will only carry you so far. When American embraces someone, it's always someone wearing a white hat, believe that.
Toney is a real bad ass but is more respected than Mayweather.
Mayweather is a fake tough guy.
I have seen him crying like an emotional bittch about X times.
Even in Ellerbe's arms.
How is that bad boy or tough?
He's just a very talented fighter trained since he's 3 years old by 2 former profesionnal fighters with a ridiculous and classless behaviour.
