This is where Dana White and UFC fails.
James "Lights Out" Toney is a legitimate future hall of famer in boxing, he is also the loudest and most controversial person to have entered boxing. He puts as.ses on seats. That being said.
Dana White SHOULD have partnered with Toney to make this event (UFC-118) a complete success. Rather than looking to Toney as an invader of their sport. I don't mean fix it by any stretch of the imagination, but give the fans the moneys worth. Lets be frank about things, UFC 118 was boring(so much hugging, very little fighting), bar one of the fights where both got bloodied up!(sorry i don't know there names)
Dana White should have brought Toney up better, with clever match making, allowing for Toney to 'acquire' more skills and experience rather than feeding him to the dogs thus creating more hype. But NOOOO, Dana just bu.tt fu.cked Toney like a childish 13 year old, as if he got suckered into an argument, "UFC is better than Boxing yo!"
Dana could have used the force of the boxing community, he could have created hype by actually allowing a decent well known boxer to mature and allowing him the 'easier' fights.
This way the ratings of UFC would have been ALOT higher, and he could have created more hype between UFC and Boxing. But the idiot just wanted to quickly show how a boxer cant beat an MMA fighter.
What now? Nobody will give a monkeys, there is no hype, and people just want to see Pac / Mayweather, Pac/Marga etc etc etc
Well done Dana White / UFC, you just capitalized on a huge opportunity, potential boxers will never come to the UFC because they know what will happen. If you look at the average MMA fighters record its filled with losses, and in boxing terms many of them would be called "journey-men", so obviously UFC does not understand what matchmaking is, hence bu.tt fu.king fighters records etc....
Discuss any aspect of this thread.
UFC - :gives: :bottle:
James Toney wasn't looking to be built up, he was looking for a quick and sizeable payday and that's what he got. I sincerely doubt he will continue to fight in MMA.
DAna was smart...He douped hi fans thikning his MMA legend beata boxing legend. Also the biggest part with Toney he tapped into boxing fanbase and proabably got people to buy it just cause they were intrigued..Hes a business man.
The only thing I'll say on this dude is well pretty much what you've already said. Dana wants to make a mockery of any boxer that comes into the UFC. (I mean I understand it's his organisation, boxing could be seen as a competitor so in business terms it's fair game). You have discussed the other business aspect of the merits that could be a benifit but Dana is not interested in that. He should have respect for his elders the little roided up black tank topped moshing creep.
Yes agreed, but the point i was trying to make was his "sport" could have been great with the introduction of JT. Having a few UFC fighters knocked out could have helped UFC in the long run.
